Chapter 39: Ice Princess’s Warning

"I am sorry! I just... I—It was just to help! I did everything so that you and Young Master Kaelian could be together again!"

Alicia narrowed her eyes as the deadly coldness in her eyes intensified. She raised the ice shard and slashed forward toward his neck, ready to execute him on the spot.

But before the sharp edge could reach his skin, a thick veil of wooden vines suddenly burst out from beneath the ground. The sturdy vines wrapped around her hand holding the shard, stopping her slash mid-air. Alicia halted in her tracks as her movement was restricted by the sudden nature magic. She looked sideways.

A boy with light green hair and yellow eyes was kneeling, pressing his hands against the road while supplying mana to sustain the spell. His expression was calm, but very serious.

Just behind him, a red-haired girl with bright emerald eyes stepped forward from the shadows of the dark alley.

Syrene looked at the boy crying on the ground in front of Alicia. Her eyes turned sharper as she met Alicia’s cold gaze.

"Why are you attacking a nobody? Are you trying to show your dominance in front of a student weaker than you?"

She spoke with thick sarcasm, but there was a distinct curiosity in her gaze that belied her outward accusation.

Alicia glanced at her once. She calmed her rising anger and took a step back. Frost started to swirl around her trapped hand, rapidly covering the wooden vines in a thick layer of ice. With a casual flick of her wrist, the frozen vines broke apart into several pieces, shattering the spell into harmless dust.

Ronan stumbled back as his spell was destroyed with such ease.

’Wait, that was a mid-tier spell I just cast to hold her down, and she destroyed it with such efficiency? It seems she is far more powerful than she lets on. It will be difficult for me to defeat her at my current stage... Sigh... It seems I will only become the second strongest person on our team.’

"It is none of your business. Stay out of it," Alicia answered calmly while smoothing the wrinkles on her dress.

Her intense eyes still bored into the boy kneeling on the street. Her anger still remained, but she managed to control her outward expression as she looked at him coldly.

"Does he know how to swim?"

Sion flinched. He could not bring himself to look her in the eyes. He shook his head nervously.

"N-no, I think he doesn’t... He was drowning the last moment I saw him..."

Alicia’s expression darkened, and her eyes turned void of any emotion.

A short distance away, Syrene stepped forward. Seeing the serious, terrifying look on Alicia’s face, she understood that something terrible had definitely happened.

Ronan stood up from the ground, dusted off his pants, and looked forward.

Alicia leaned down to the boy’s eye level. She placed her bare hand on his shoulder and whispered words that only he could hear.

"You shouldn’t have messed with my lucky star. Just pray that he comes back alive. If he doesn’t, then you are going to face the most horrible death a person could ever imagine."

Sion’s body trembled with fear. He began to shake violently at her cold warning.

Alicia stepped back from him. She turned around and started walking toward the hotel where they were stationed, having lost her appetite for dinner.

Both Syrene and Ronan looked at each other for a brief second before slowly following behind her.

Now left alone in the dark alley, Sion sat on the dirty street, his figure illuminated only by the solitary streetlamp in the area.

As he watched their figures disappear into the distance, his terrified expression finally began to subside.

His face contracted with frustration and malice.

"I have to tell Young Lord Kaelian as soon as possible. I am sure he will save me after I tell him that I took care of the boy..."

His lips curled into an ugly smirk as the fear in his eyes nearly vanished.

"Hehe... There is no way that Alden guy could have survived. He must have already died down there. It seems I will get a good reward from the Young Lord. That guy was being quite annoying and getting too close to Lady Alicia anyway."

He stood up and started walking toward the main street to head back to the hotel.

Suddenly, he felt a sharp coldness strike his body. He started to feel colder and colder, and his limbs began to shake.

"Wait—what is happening?!"

Before he could even process it, the freezing temperature inside him spiked to a new height. He dropped to his knees, clutching his body, as his body shivered uncontrollably.

"Ah—ahh... Hah... hah... Hah..."

Cold vapor started to surge out of his mouth with every breath. He felt like his very blood had started to freeze.

He closed his eyes and hastily started to supply mana to maintain his body temperature. He pushed the mana from his core to every part of his body, from head to toe.

But to his sheer horror, rather than lessening the coldness, the freezing sensation doubled. The invading energy actively converted his own mana into ice.

His eyes widened as he realized what this was. He remembered the touch. He hastily unbuttoned his shirt and looked down at his bare shoulder. A thick layer of frost clung to his skin right where her hand had rested. His face turned pale as he looked at it, finally understanding what it was.

"A c-curse?! No—Ah—hah... hah... hah..."

The coldness in his blood continued to intensify. His body paralyzed as he felt his whole being turning into ice.

He closed his eyes and sensed the curse’s true nature.

A ring of pure frost swirled directly around his heart. It continued to torture him relentlessly, bringing him immense pain, but it was carefully controlled—not enough to actually kill him. The constant, agonizing feeling of the dropping temperature remained.

The shivering boy lay alone on the cold ground, not knowing if he would even survive the night. As the pain consumed his mind, he finally realized that he never should have messed with Alicia’s Lucky Star.
