Chapter 245: Chapter: 244 The Sun clan City.[3]
The Sun Clan City’s lively energy still lingered in the air outside, but inside their modest inn room, things had settled into a quieter kind of chaos.
Jasmine sprawled across the bed with a dramatic soft thud, stretching out like she owned the place.
The mattress gave a disappointing creak beneath her, nowhere near as fluffy as she had hoped.
A quick frown crossed her face, but it vanished the moment she spotted Kavin walking toward her, carefully balancing a tray loaded with the regional dish she had demanded earlier.
They called it "chicken and pork healthy diet," though the name was clearly a joke.
Thick skewers rose from the plate, stacked with juicy pieces of grilled chicken, savory pork, and layers of sweet onion that glistened under a generous barbecue seasoning.
The aroma filled the small room, rich and smoky, making mouths water instantly.
Jasmine had first seen the street vendor flipping these sticks and practically started drooling on the spot. She had insisted Kavin buy them no matter what.
The problem was money. Their stolen teal had vanished faster than expected. Ten teal went straight to booking the inn for ten days.
Then Jasmine had spotted local Zlycon dresses that looked nothing like human styles and demanded a few, her eyes sparkling with excitement over the flowing fabrics and bold patterns.
They had eaten, of course, and she had wanted fine wine to go with it. Kavin, still thinking like the wealthy heir he used to be, had picked what he assumed was a reasonably priced bottle.
It turned out to cost a staggering one hundred teal. He nearly collapsed when he learned the price, but he had promised her, so there was no backing out.
In the end, he had slipped away and quietly relieved at least twenty unsuspecting passersby of their purses just to afford the skewers now sitting on the tray.
"Phew!"
Kavin let out a long breath as he set the plate down on the bed. Before he could even pull his hands back, Jasmine lunged forward with eager speed, her fingers reaching straight for the food.
Slap!
Kavin lightly tapped the back of her hand, just enough to stop her. Jasmine froze, staring up at him with wide, bewildered eyes that quickly narrowed in protest.
"Wait," he said, fighting back a grin. "I also brought wine and some strong whiskey. You’re really going to skip them?"
"But I don’t drink whiskey," she replied, wrinkling her nose as if the bitter taste had already hit her tongue. The frown that followed was deep and dramatic, like the idea alone offended her.
"That’s why I also brought the wine," Kavin said, turning around with a theatrical flourish.
He returned holding two bottles in one hand and two glasses in the other. One bottle held deep red wine that caught the light like liquid ruby.
The other glowed with a warm golden hue, the whiskey inside promising strength.
"It wasn’t like I didn’t know you’re still a child who can’t handle whiskey, no matter how grown-up you act." He beamed with pride as he set everything down. "Only real men can drink whiskey!"
He said it with complete sincerity, chest puffed out a little. In his mind, the ability to sip something bitter and stay in control was a true mark of manliness.
The expensive kinds he had tried before tasted sharp and complex, but that was part of the challenge.
Jasmine’s eyes narrowed further. She couldn’t quite tell if he was stating a fact or cleverly provoking her.
If only real men drank whiskey, then obviously she couldn’t, she was a woman, after all.
Still, she decided it was smarter not to feed his silly game.
Instead, she simply reached for the food again, this time more carefully, letting the delicious scent win her over while the colorful chaos of their broke-but-still-living-well adventure continued in the background.
Meanwhile, Kavin settled onto the edge of the bed, first working open the bottle of red wine with a smooth twist. He poured a generous glass and handed it over to Jasmine, who accepted it with a pleased little hum.
For himself, he reached for the whiskey, pouring a solid measure into his own glass.
A confident smirk played across his face as he lifted it. When Jasmine didn’t react with the impressed look he had hoped for, his expression faltered into a small frown. Still, he tilted the glass back and took a bold gulp.
The moment the liquid hit his throat, everything changed. Something sharp and acidic burned its way down like liquid fire.
His face went completely blank as he fought hard to keep any embarrassing reaction from escaping. He clenched his jaw, trying to maintain control.
Right then, Jasmine glanced over. Her lips curved into a knowing smirk the second she saw his contorted expression.
She understood immediately, the whiskey was cheap stuff, nothing like the refined bottles he was used to, and it packed a brutal strength on top of that.
The poor guy was clearly struggling to hide how much it stung. Jasmine wasn’t about to waste such a perfect moment.
"Hehe, are you regretting it already?" she teased, her voice light and playful. "Want some wine and meat to ease the pain? Huh?"
’Fuck!’ Kavin cursed silently, humiliation flooding through him from head to toe.
He gritted his teeth and forced down the bitter, awful taste that somehow managed to be worse than he imagined literal shit might be—not that he had ever tried it, of course. Still... it was bad.
"Well, you can quit if you wa...." Jasmine started, clearly ready to pour more fuel on the fire.
But Kavin wasn’t having it. The teasing had lit something stubborn inside him.
Without even looking at her, he kept gulping it down, one determined swallow after another.
Jasmine’s eyes widened as she watched him. He downed half the bottle in what felt like no time at all.
His eyes turned red, cold sweat beaded on his forehead, yet he refused to stop. He let out a rough snort and kept going, driven by pure pride now.
She had clearly pushed him too far. Worried he might actually faint from the alcohol’s effects, Jasmine moved quickly to intervene.
But it was already too late. Kavin finished the rest in one final push, tossed the empty whiskey bottle aside with a clatter, and closed the distance between them on the bed.
Jasmine gulped, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. She gently pushed the tray of food a little farther away, understanding exactly what was coming next. The air between them thickened with anticipation.
Kavin pressed his palm firmly against his sternum. In an instant, his appearance shifted.
Julius’s real face emerged....golden hair catching the light as it fell loosely, his bloodshot golden eyes locking onto her with intense focus.
Rosalina sighed softly to herself and mirrored the motion, pressing her own palm to her sternum.
Her features changed from Jasmine to her true self: long, bright black hair cascading down, paired with sharp black eyes that sparkled despite the bored expression she tried to wear.
Julius quickly pulled his clothes off, the fabric whispering to the floor. Rosalina watched him, then spoke up, her voice carrying a mix of warning and hidden excitement.
"This would be the last time, remember?" she said. "You promised we would wait another two years, but here you are going for it now. Just know I won’t agree later when you can’t change your appearance back to how it was before!"
Even as she said it, anticipation danced clearly in her eyes.
Julius crawled closer, his hand finding her waist in a light, possessive squeeze. A playful grin tugged at his lips despite the whiskey’s lingering burn.
"As you say... my lady!"
