Chapter 244: Chapter: 243 The Sun clan City.[2]

The Sun Clan City stood in the eastern region of Heartreach, its massive circular walls rising from the flat land like a proud declaration of strength.

The Sun Clan was one of the branch families of the Solarian line, their blood running especially close to the main family.

They traced their roots straight back to the First Queen, just like every other ruling clan in the region.

These clans proudly claimed the purest descent from their legendary ancestor.

According to them, only the First Queen had ever truly captured his heart.

Whether that was pure history or layers of family storytelling polished over thousands of years depended on who you asked.

The city itself was one of the busiest and most populated under the clan’s control.

Unlike places nestled against mountains or rivers for defense, this one sprawled across open, level ground.

Tall stone walls wrapped around it in a near-perfect circle, easy to spot from far away.

Inside, the layout followed a clear pattern that almost every major Heartreach city copied without question.

At the center sat the administrative district, humming with business offices, merchant halls, and clan representatives handling daily affairs.

Beyond that stretched the arena district, where huge structures towered over the streets and duels, tournaments, and challenges filled the days with noise and excitement.

The outer section held the residential areas, where most people lived their everyday lives.

Some folks saw deep meaning in the setup, administration, then competition, then ordinary life.

Others thought it was just practical. Most simply went along with it because that was how things were done.

A short distance outside the main walls stood a separate compound for the spell casters kept on standby.

Their job was straightforward: step in when trouble inevitably broke out. Blood ties or not, conflicts between clans flared up often, and the Solarian Family usually let them play out. Competition built strength, they liked to say. At least that was the official line.

On this particular morning, the entrance gate buzzed with far more activity than usual.

The city always drew in tourists, merchants, adventurers, and all sorts of opportunists, but today’s crowd felt almost overwhelming.

Long lines snaked along the road leading up to the gates. Merchants haggled with guards over fees, children darted between wagons, and tired travelers grumbled about the wait.

A small group of performers tried their luck entertaining the bored queue, while someone else wandered through selling snacks to people who had barely been standing there for ten minutes. Human ingenuity really had no limits when money was involved.

Kavin and Jasmine finally reached the front after what felt like forever.

They paid the entrance fee and stepped through the gate.

Both of their faces twisted into matching looks of pure annoyance.

Jasmine’s expression in particular suggested she was ready to march back and challenge the person who set the prices to a duel right then and there.

"For fuck’s sake, how the fuck is this so fucking expensive?" she snarled.

Kavin let out a long sigh as they moved deeper into the city. "Our accents have been fixed, but that doesn’t mean you can swear like that in human language."

"I paid good money. I’ll swear if I want to," she shot back without missing a beat.

"You were swearing before you even paid."

"That’s because I already knew they were going to rob us blind."

Kavin couldn’t really argue with her twisted logic. Not because it made perfect sense, but mostly because he lacked the energy for that fight right now.

Behind them, a small commotion erupted near the gate. A guard’s sharp voice cut through the noise.

"Hey! What? Either pay the entrance fee or get lost!"

A nervous man stood there, frantically patting himself down.

"But... but I was sure my purse was right in my pocket..." His hands moved faster, checking sleeves, boots, cloak, belt, and every pocket again.

The color drained from his face with each empty search. "Where... where did it go?"

He looked genuinely confused and desperate.

Unfortunately, the guards had no patience for stories, no matter how true they sounded.

After several long minutes of growing panic, they escorted him away while he kept protesting his innocence.

Kavin watched the whole thing and casually tossed their own entrance pass into a nearby bin.

The man hadn’t been lying. That much was clear. And more to the point, he clearly hadn’t carried much anyway.

The fee they had just paid had drained nearly everything they had left.

What remained would barely stretch for a few days, and in seven days they would need to renew their stay permit, an even more painful expense.

"I say we rob one of those treasuries or whatever," Jasmine suggested with a casual shrug, as if she were proposing they grab lunch.

"Banks," Kavin corrected.

"Yeah, that."

He rubbed his forehead. "You do realize they’re heavily guarded, right?"

"So what?" Jasmine looked at him like the answer was obvious. "We break in and beat the guards."

She said it with the same easy confidence someone might use to explain how to tie their shoes.

Kavin stared at her. She stared right back, completely serious. The scary part was that she meant every word.

A tired sigh slipped out of him. "Haa..."

Never in a million years had he expected to be worrying about money like this.

In his old life he had been filthy rich. After transmigrating, he somehow ended up even wealthier as the only heir of a powerful family.

Want something rare? Buy it. Need expensive materials? Buy them. Something absurdly overpriced? Still buy it....someone else was footing the bill anyway.

Jasmine came from similar wealth. Disgustingly rich, both of them.

Practical experience with being broke? Zero. So their brilliant solution to money problems naturally leaned straight toward robbery.

Not the most elegant plan, but it had a certain straightforward charm.

After a moment of thought, Kavin nodded. "Alright."

They needed funds before they could start earning properly through duels in the arenas. Simple as that.

A well-dressed man walked past them in the crowd. Kavin extended his hand with practiced casualness.

The motion drew no eyes. A second later, the purse on the man’s robe loosened and floated free.

Jasmine stayed busy too. A faint ripple of her Color Path spell passed through the air, making the purse blend perfectly into the surroundings.

It drifted smoothly into Kavin’s waiting palm. They never broke stride, never looked suspicious, and definitely didn’t feel guilty.

Kavin opened the purse. Both of them leaned in at once, eyes widening.

Inside sat stacks of teal...the rare mineral valued even higher than gold among the Zlycons and used as serious currency.

Jasmine practically pushed her face closer, counting with growing excitement. "One... two... three..." Her voice picked up speed. "Fourteen... fifteen..."

Kavin joined in, leaning shoulder to shoulder with her. "Sixteen..."

They counted faster together. "Eighteen... nineteen... twenty!"

Jasmine’s eyes sparkled with delight. "Finally! A rich guy!"

Kavin gave a solemn nod, fighting back a grin. "Truly a blessed encounter."

"Let’s go book an inn," she said, already turning.

"And?"

"Eat something delicious."

Kavin didn’t hesitate for a second. "Excellent idea."

The two thieves changed direction with fresh energy and marched deeper into the city, the weight of their new purse a comforting presence.
