Chapter 73: Damian Misses Being Useless

One week passed inside the Heavenly Sword Sect.

For Damian, this week felt longer than an entire year.

Every morning, before the sun fully rose, Selvara would already be standing in the training ground with her hands behind her back.

And every morning, Damian would feel his soul tremble the moment he saw her. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"Begin," Selvara would say calmly.

Then hell would start.

Selvara did not shout, did not curse, and did not even look angry, but for some reason, that made it even worse.

She would always calmly point out Damian’s flaws one by one, then force him to repeat the same movement until his body felt like it was falling apart.

By the third day, Damian was already lying on the stone platform, staring at the sky with empty eyes.

"Damn it..." he muttered. "I miss being a useless young master."

Selvara looked down at him calmly. "Stand up."

Damian closed his eyes. "I take it back. I miss being unconscious."

Of course, Selvara ignored him.

During this week, Selvara also asked several times about the two jade slips she had given him.

Both were Mid-Rank Noble Grade sword arts, and both suited Damian perfectly, but Damian still did not absorb them.

Every time Selvara asked, he came up with a different excuse.

On the first day, he said, "Master, I want to study my foundation first before learning new sword arts."

Selvara accepted it.

On the third day, he said, "Master, my mind is still tired. If I absorb them now, I might waste the opportunity."

Selvara stared at him for a while before sighing.

On the fifth day, he said, "Master, I think I need to fully understand my current style before adding more techniques."

This time, Selvara’s silver eyes narrowed slightly.

Damian immediately stood straighter and looked extremely serious because he wanted to use those jade slips as gifts.

If he gave them to the right target, the system reward would definitely be amazing.

There was no way Damian would casually absorb them without thinking.

Selvara naturally noticed that something was strange. After all, Damian was not exactly good at hiding his thoughts from his face, but she did not force him.

She only sighed faintly and said, "You are stubborn."

Damian smiled innocently. "Master, I prefer calling it careful."

Selvara looked at him. "Stubborn."

Damian coughed lightly. "Carefully stubborn?"

Selvara ignored him.

By the end of the week, Damian’s body had become much more stable.

His footwork was cleaner, his sword grip was firmer, and his Flame and Thunder Qi flowed more smoothly than before.

Even Damian had to admit that Selvara’s brutal training was effective, although it was really hellish and painful.

That evening, after another round of training, Damian collapsed onto the stone platform like usual.

Selvara stood nearby and suddenly said, "Tomorrow, you will go out for a sect mission."

Damian’s dead eyes instantly regained life.

He slowly turned his head. "Mission?"

Selvara nodded. "Yes. You cannot improve by training here forever. You need real experience."

Damian sat up immediately, his exhaustion almost disappearing. "Outside the sect?"

"Outside the sect," Selvara confirmed.

A smile slowly spread across Damian’s face because outside meant freedom, and it meant he could finally do some gifting again.

Damian clenched his fist quietly. "Finally..."

Selvara glanced at him. "Do not get too excited."

Damian quickly put on a serious face. "Of course, Master. I will treat the mission with great responsibility."

Selvara stared at him silently because, for some reason, she did not believe him at all.

---

Damian walked back toward his room with a smile. "Since I’m going out tomorrow, I should prepare some gifts first."

But before that, he suddenly thought of something important, so he turned around and went back to find Selvara.

Selvara was still standing near the training ground, looking as calm as ever.

When she saw Damian return, her silver eyes moved slightly. "What is it?"

Damian cupped his hands. "Master, I wanted to ask something."

Selvara looked at him, narrowing her eyes slightly. "Speak."

"Are there any herbs or pills that can improve spiritual roots?" Damian asked.

"Violetta and Vulkara both have Mortal Grade spiritual roots. If things continue like this, it will be hard for them to reach Foundation Establishment."

Selvara looked at him quietly.

For a moment, Damian thought she would scold him for worrying about others before himself.

But instead, she calmly said, "You do not need to worry about that. I have already handled it."

Damian blinked. "Handled it?"

Selvara waved her sleeve, and two jade bottles appeared in front of her.

"These are Top-Rank Profound Grade Spiritual Root Pills," she said.

"The Heavenly Sword Sect has pills like this. They are not common, but they are enough for your disciples."

Damian’s eyes immediately brightened.

From the name alone, it seemed like the pill could upgrade a person’s spiritual root to Profound Grade.

Then he looked at the two jade bottles and quickly asked, "Master, can you give me three?"

Selvara raised an eyebrow. "Your spiritual root is Noble Grade, correct? Why do you need this?"

Damian’s heart tightened slightly, but he quickly put on a calm expression. "Master, I also have some talent as an alchemist. I want to study one pill carefully and understand its structure."

For the first time, a trace of surprise appeared in Selvara’s eyes. "You are an alchemist?"

Damian nodded. "A little."

Selvara looked at him silently for several breaths.

Clearly, she had not expected this troublesome disciple of hers to also have alchemy talent.

After a while, she finally nodded. "Fine."

She took out another bottle, and the three jade bottles floated toward Damian.

Damian caught them carefully and cupped his hands. "Thank you, Master."

Selvara looked at him calmly. "Tomorrow, go out and complete your mission properly."

Her silver eyes sharpened slightly. "And do not embarrass my name."

Damian immediately smiled. "Don’t worry, Master. I will be very responsible."

Selvara stared at him.

Damian’s smile slowly stiffened.

For some reason, she clearly still did not believe him at all.
