Chapter 127: Protagonist Fear Beats Laziness
These days, Damian’s life became painfully simple.
Before going to train with Selvara, Damian would always take out the small jade box containing the Top-Rank Royal Grade Enlightenment Tea Leaves.
Of course, he did not dare to brew an entire pot.
That would be too stupid because the grade of this tea was just too damn high.
Even brewing one whole leaf was already enough to make his head explode from too much enlightenment power, so Damian only brewed a tiny amount and drank a single sip.
But the moment the warm tea entered his mouth, his mind became clear, sharp, and peaceful.
It felt as if all the fog inside his head had been swept away. Even the circulation route of his cultivation art became easier to sense, even though he had already mastered it.
And at the same time, the effect of the tea did not only last for a few minutes or a few hours.
It lasted the entire day.
He also did not stop there.
After drinking the tea, he took out a Top-Rank Noble Grade Clear Heart Pill and swallowed it.
The pill melted quickly, spreading a cool sensation through his body. His mind became even calmer, and his Qi stopped feeling restless.
With the Enlightenment Tea supporting his comprehension and the Clear Heart Pill stabilizing his mind, Damian felt like his training efficiency had more than doubled.
Then, with his preparation complete, Damian walked to Selvara’s training ground like a man walking toward execution.
Selvara was already waiting there with her usual cold expression.
She looked at Damian. "Ready?"
Damian took a deep breath. "Ready, Master."
The moment he said that, Selvara raised one finger, and soon, a sword light appeared in front of her.
Damian’s mouth twitched. "Master, can we start gently..."
Before he could finish speaking, the sword light shot toward him.
WHOOSH!
Damian immediately activated [Thunder Flash Steps] and dodged to the side.
BOOM!
The ground behind him exploded.
Damian’s scalp went numb. "Damn it, Master! That was not gentle at all!"
Selvara said calmly, "You dodged. That means it was gentle."
Damian had no words.
After that, hell began again.
Selvara forced him to use [Thunder Flash Steps], [Lion Roar], [Burning Thunder Sword Art], and every bit of Qi control he had.
By the time training ended, Damian was lying on the ground, covered in sweat, dust, and small cuts.
But the result was clearly there.
He had mastered his martial arts even more.
After returning to his room, Damian immediately swallowed a Top-Rank Noble Grade Blood Qi Recovery Pill first.
Warm medicinal power spread through his body, healing his injuries and restoring his exhausted blood Qi.
Only after his body stabilized did he take a Top-Rank Noble Grade Spirit Gathering Pill and begin cultivating.
The room slowly filled with dense Qi.
Damian sat cross-legged on his bed and circulated the Top-Rank Noble Grade Heavenly Core Cultivation Art.
His Flame Qi, Thunder Qi, and other elemental Qi moved through his meridians more smoothly than before.
With the help of the Clear Heart Pill, his mind did not waver.
With the help of the Enlightenment Tea, his understanding deepened bit by bit.
With the help of the Spirit Gathering Pill, his Qi grew stronger every day.
As for body cultivation, Damian decided to wait for now.
His body was important, but what he needed most right now was cultivation realm.
He had to chase Nolan.
That bastard was already a First Stage Golden Core cultivator.
And worse, Nolan was a protagonist-type bastard.
Ordinary geniuses could be fought across realms, but protagonists were different.
They were unreasonable.
They could fight stronger enemies, survive death traps, find lucky chances, and somehow turn danger into opportunity.
Damian knew he also had cheats, but the enemy he faced was not an ordinary cultivator.
It was a damn protagonist.
So at the very least, Damian needed to reach the same realm.
Meanwhile, Selvara stood quietly outside her courtyard and looked toward Damian’s room from afar.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as she realized Damian had become much more serious recently. His cultivation speed had also become a bit faster.
"This brat... it seems he has a secret. But as long as he does not harm himself or the sect, so be it."
Then she turned her head toward the main peak and grinned faintly. "Nolan, huh..."
As expected, revenge, hatred, and rivalry were always the best drugs for making a cultivator grow stronger.
A lazy and shameless disciple like Damian could suddenly become hardworking and train seriously.
Selvara folded her hands behind her back and turned away, grinning wider.
"Finally, this disciple of mine looks like a real sword sect disciple."
---
The next morning, Damian arrived at the training ground as usual.
His face was calm, but his eyes already carried the helplessness of a man walking toward death.
Selvara stood in the center of the field with her hands behind her back.
Damian cupped his hands. "Master."
Selvara looked at him calmly. "You have improved."
Damian blinked.
Then his eyes immediately brightened. "Master, are you praising me?"
Selvara said flatly, "Barely."
Damian’s smile froze. "I knew it."
Selvara ignored his reaction and continued, "These days, I have trained your movement, sword art, Qi control, reaction speed, and combat instincts."
Damian nodded seriously.
His body still remembered every beating.
Selvara looked at him. "But training is still training. No matter how harsh it is, it is not the same as real battle."
Damian’s expression became serious.
Selvara’s eyes turned colder. "Real battle is always the best teacher."
Damian slowly nodded. "I understand, Master."
Selvara said, "Go to the Mission Hall."
Damian raised an eyebrow. "Mission Hall?"
Selvara nodded. "Take a core disciple mission. Choose a hunting mission."
Damian’s eyes lit up slightly. "Hunting mission?"
"Yes," Selvara said calmly. "Fight beasts. Fight danger. Fight something that will not stop just because you are tired."
Damian’s mouth twitched.
That sounded very much like her.
Selvara continued, "Do not take something too easy. But do not be stupid and take something beyond your ability either."
Damian immediately cupped his hands. "Yes, Master."
Then his lips slowly curved upward.
Finally.
After so many days of hell training, he could actually leave the mountain.
Damian grinned. "Then I’ll go right away."
Selvara narrowed her eyes. "Why do you look so happy?"
Damian coughed. "Because I am eager to gain real battle experience."
Selvara stared at him.
Damian added seriously, "And not because I finally have time to go out."
Selvara’s expression remained cold. "Go."
Damian turned around and walked toward the Mission Hall, his steps becoming lighter.
"Finally, freedom."
