Chapter 519: Chapter 516: Support Yourself
Seeing He Qianhui in thought, Zhang Hao chuckled and said, "Tonight, you have to stew ribs for me, braise a fish tomorrow, and then make something light for me the day after tomorrow; how about that?"
Seeing him so pitiful, He Qianhui could only satisfy his not-too-excessive request.
"Then I’ll go buy the ribs now; you rest well at home."
As soon as He Qianhui left, she happened to run into the neighbor who lived across the hallway, whom she had met before.
It was just that the two families never really had much in-depth contact, and seeing the woman’s pallid face, He Qianhui curbed her curiosity without asking more.
The two of them left the building together, thinking he had other things to do, but surprisingly, they ended up walking in the same direction.
This made He Qianhui unable to help but start a conversation.
"I haven’t seen you in such a long time, how have you been recently?"
The woman was initially surprised that He Qianhui would take the initiative to talk to her, but she quickly regained her composure.
"Nothing much, my husband came back recently; he wants to have braised pork today, and we just ran out at home, so I’m going to see if I can find some good pork belly for him."
He Qianhui said with a smile, "That’s a coincidence, I’m going to buy ribs; let’s go together."
The woman did not refuse, and the two of them chatted and laughed all the way to the supermarket.
Arriving at the fresh meat section, they arrived just in time to see the butcher cutting meat.
He Qianhui thought the pork belly looked good and decided to get a piece as well.
She also packed up the remaining few ribs to buy.
However, the woman only bought half a pound of meat, which really wasn’t much.
Furthermore, it was supposed to be for braised pork, and there was still plenty of fresh meat available, not just this small amount.
Unable to hold back, He Qianhui asked, "Are the two of you going to eat just this little bit of meat? That’s too little."
The woman sheepishly smiled and said, "This is enough."
Seeing the woman’s small purchase compared to her own large amount, He Qianhui suddenly felt she was being too extravagant.
When she returned home and was preparing to cook in the kitchen, she suddenly heard the sound of shouting and fighting from next door.
It was a man’s voice, cursing very nastily; amidst the swearing, there was also the sound of things being thrown.
Realizing her neighbor might be in danger, He Qianhui hurried to the bedroom to inform Zhang Hao.
But Zhang Hao thought it best for outsiders like them to not get involved in such matters.
The only thing they could do was to report it to the police and let them handle it.
But as the saying goes, even righteous officials have difficulty settling domestic disputes.
Even if the police really came to handle it, they might not resolve it clearly.
After a while, the noise from next door finally stopped.
He Qianhui then returned to the kitchen to continue cooking; the evening’s braised ribs were served with a few extra pieces of meat.
Zhang Hao ate with great satisfaction, and He Qianhui also relished the meal.
"You go back to the room to rest; I’ll go take out the trash so it doesn’t attract bugs."
He Qianhui tidied up the trash, and as she opened the door, she ran into the neighbor again.
She saw the woman with a bruised face and a luggage bag in hand.
He Qianhui didn’t dare to ask too much; she could pretty much figure out what she had gone through during this time.
It would be utterly tactless to bring up the matter she was clearly trying to avoid.
The woman didn’t say much either, just concealing the injuries on her face and walking quickly with her head down.
When He Qianhui returned, she told Zhang Hao about what she had seen.
"There are still men who hit women these days, I just saw that woman walking away with her suitcase."
"I guess she’s either going to stay somewhere else for a while or she’s heading back to her parents’ house. I remember when we used to live here."
"I’ve never heard such noise before. What do you think could cause a man to hit a woman?"
This question was directed at Zhang Hao, who was not that kind of person, no matter how angry he got.
He could calm himself down and sit to reason first. Learning to control one’s emotions is the most important lesson for an adult.
"Alright, let’s not get involved in other people’s business. You just need to believe that such a situation will never happen to you. Maybe one day, it will be you hitting me."
He Qianhui gave him a look, "Aren’t you just bragging about how stable your emotions are? You don’t really think I’m the kind of irrational shrew, do you?"
Zhang Hao chuckled. He hadn’t said that.
As he embraced He Qianhui and began to dream about the future, suddenly she said to him,
"How about, once your legs are better, we two go get our marriage certificate?"
The last time they had this conversation, He Qianhui was still reluctant.
This sudden suggestion surprised Zhang Hao.
"Why the sudden willingness to get the certificate with me? Do you want to marry me now?"
He Qianhui was silent for a moment before explaining, "It’s not exactly right to say I want to marry you, but it’s because of your injury and hospital stay this time that I realized I need to become your legal wife."
"Only then can I make some decisions for you, and we wouldn’t need to have your uncle and aunt come over to sign things. They could just come directly to me."
"So you’d better treat me well, because if you don’t, I might just give up on rescuing you."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Hao quickly hugged He Qianhui with a fawning expression.
"That’s not good, wife. My life is still quite important. If I gave up on being rescued, you’d struggle to find another man as good as me in the future."
He Qianhui lightly tapped Zhang Hao’s forehead with her fingertip, "Then you’d better cherish me well, keeping me happy every day like this, and maybe I’ll soften and save your life."
The two of them chatted and laughed, and it was about time, although Zhang Hao didn’t have to go to work during this period.
Even if he stayed up all night, it wouldn’t matter, but under He Qianhui’s supervision, his daily routine was very regular.
"I’m not going to work tomorrow either. I’ll give you a bath if you don’t mind," said He Qianhui.
Zhang Hao quickly sniffed himself, "I don’t smell bad, do I?"
"Even if you don’t smell, it’s time for a bath. Do you want to go to the toilet first, so you don’t have to call for me later when I’m asleep?" she said.
Zhang Hao glanced at the cane by the bed, "I don’t need you to go to the toilet anymore, I have this."
He Qianhui glanced at it and said, "Alright then, go to sleep."
But just as He Qianhui lay down, Zhang Hao giggled embarrassingly.
"Wife, could you help me to the toilet? I didn’t need to go just now, but I do now."
He Qianhui, looking exasperated, said, "You really know how to pick your moments. Let’s go."
With endless patience, she supported Zhang Hao to the bathroom, helped him take off his pants, and even held his crucial part.
But after all, she was a woman, and her body didn’t have that part.
After holding it for a few seconds, she let Zhang Hao support himself.
"Take care of your own business, and make it quick," she said.
Under He Qianhui’s urging, Zhang Hao hurried up.
Just before he was about to pull up his underwear, having given a final shake, He Qianhui felt something was amiss.
Realizing the issue, she quickly grabbed a couple of tissues to wipe him, "You’re such a grown man, how can you be so unhygienic?"
