Chapter 509: Chapter 506: My Water is Not Hot

The leader was all smiles as he said, "Of course, it’s good news. This morning, I suddenly received a notice from the province, telling us that they want a few of our hospital’s doctors to go for training."

"You are one of the backbones of our hospital, and after giving it some thought, I’ve decided to send you, the Director of Surgery, and the Head Nurse together."

"You’ll be leaving this afternoon, so you can go back now and pack your things."

Having to go for training tomorrow, Zhang Hao felt somewhat displeased, as he had little interest in this kind of training.

"Leader, why don’t you send someone else? My department has been quite busy recently, and if I leave,"

"the other two doctors will definitely be overwhelmed. Moreover, most of these patients came specifically for me. What will they do if I’m away for several days?"

Upon hearing this, the director also became somewhat unhappy, "Mr. Zhang, you don’t think that the hospital can’t function without you, do you?"

"While I am aware that your medical skills are excellent, as the saying goes, even outstanding people need to study. Anyway, it’s already been decided, and if you don’t go, it might not look too good."

Zhang Hao wasn’t completely unwilling to go; since the leader insisted so much, he agreed.

"Alright, alright, I’ll go back now to pack. How many days will this trip take?" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

The leader replied, "About a week or so, but you’ll know the exact duration only after you’ve arrived."

Zhang Hao’s heart sank. He would be away for a week. Would He Qianhui be safe at home all by herself?

But he had little say over his work assignments.

"Okay, I got it. I’ll go back now to pack and let my family know."

On the way home, Zhang Hao first stopped by He Qianhui’s company, thinking of seeing her one more time before leaving.

He felt there was something odd about this last meeting.

He Qianhui, who was in a meeting, received Zhang Hao’s message and was a bit surprised.

Why was he looking for her at this time?

The manager, who was in the middle of a regular meeting, noticed He Qianhui’s expression change and called her name aloud, "Xiao He, what’s wrong?"

He Qianhui stood up and said, "Manager, my boyfriend has come. He said there’s an emergency and needs to see me. May I step out for a moment?"

Upon hearing this, the manager pretended to ponder for a moment and then nodded, "Go on then, be quick."

He Qianhui put down the documents in her hand, took her phone, and hurriedly left the meeting room for the company’s entrance.

There she saw Zhang Hao sitting on a chair, holding a promotional flyer from her company.

"Weren’t you supposed to go to the hospital? Why have you come to see me again?"

"Something came up suddenly that I need to tell you. The hospital is sending me out for training for a week, and I thought before leaving, I should come to see you," said Zhang Hao.

"Look at how you’re talking, as if you won’t ever see me again. Are you going back to pack? If you need, I can ask my manager for some time off and help you pack," He Qianhui offered with concern.

"No need, I’m only going for a week and just need a few sets of clothes to change into."

"But you must be careful at home, especially with strangers knocking on the door—never open it without knowing who it is."

"If there’s any danger, call my parents, or as a last resort, call the police. I actually don’t want to go; I’d rather stay home and eat the meals you cook."

He Qianhui knew Zhang Hao was a homebody. Being away for a couple of days might have been okay,

but a whole week was indeed a bit too long.

"Alright, I’ve seen you now and feel reassured, so I’ll head back first. While I’m not home,"

"you mustn’t go to bars or nightclubs. If I find out, I’ll definitely give you a proper punishment when I get back," Zhang Hao admonished.

He Qianhui pouted, "Go on, I don’t like those places anyway."

After Zhang Hao left, He Qianhui was ready to return to the meeting only to find that it had already ended.

Feng Nuo and the others were about to leave on a business trip, while the rest of the colleagues chatted and laughed.

When they saw He Qianhui, they immediately called out to her, "Xiaohui, everyone plans to go out for drinks and have some fun tonight, do you want to come? Do you need to tell your husband?"

He Qianhui spread her hands, "My husband is away on a business trip learning in the province. Anyway, I don’t have anything to do tonight, so I’ll join you."

Before she could finish speaking, another male colleague picked up the conversation, "Can you really go? I feel like Xiaohui’s husband must have told her not to go to places where there are lots of men."

Another colleague was indignant, "What’s the big deal? She’s not even married. Can’t she go out and relax? You men are just too petty."

Zhang Hao came home, took a suitcase down from the top of the wardrobe, picked out a few clothes, and then grabbed seven or eight pairs of underwear from the drawer to pack.

Before the afternoon shift began, he arrived at the hospital, didn’t even go to his department, and went straight to the leadership’s office with his suitcase.

The Director of Surgery and the Head Nurse hadn’t arrived yet, so Zhang Hao sat in a chair, fiddling with his phone.

After playing a game, the two of them finally arrived.

The leaders then told them some things to watch out for, mainly to foster good relationships with doctors from other hospitals.

Some were brother hospitals, and who knows if they might need each other’s help in the future.

If the relationship wasn’t good, it would be awkward to ask for help later on.

Zhang Hao wasn’t very skilled at these kind of social tasks, so he could only entrust them to the Director of Surgery and the Head Nurse.

Fortunately, Zhang Hao had helped the Director of Surgery quite a bit before and had also revitalized the Head Nurse’s husband’s vigor.

They didn’t mind taking on a bit more responsibility.

When it was about time, the three of them got into a car and headed to the airport, straight for the provincial capital.

By the time they landed, it was already evening.

The learning conference was tomorrow. The three of them checked into two rooms, with Zhang Hao sharing one with the Director of Surgery, and the Head Nurse having a room to herself.

Now, the two men were in a strange city where they didn’t have any friends.

And there wasn’t much to eat in the hotel, so after discussing, the three of them decided to go out and find something.

The Director of Surgery suggested finding a noodle shop to eat something simple, but Zhang Hao didn’t want to eat so plainly.

After all, they were in the provincial capital now, why not try some local specialties?

The Head Nurse didn’t care about what to eat for dinner and would go with whatever they decided.

Since it was up to them, Zhang Hao ended up footing most of the bill in the end.

Taking a taxi, they found a well-known local restaurant. Although it was a bit far from the hotel, it would be worthwhile as long as the food was good.

"You know, our expenses for this trip are limited. If the hospital leadership knew we came here for a meal, they would probably hit the roof," joked the Director of Surgery.

The Head Nurse propped her cheek with her hand, "This time we’re paying out of pocket. We have Mr. Zhang, don’t we? What’s there to fear?"

Zhang Hao chuckled and said, "Exactly, it’s not like a meal will leave us broke. We’ll eat whatever we want; this one is on me."

With Zhang Hao’s words, the other two no longer held back.

In the end, Zhang Hao spent a few hundred bucks that week, but the food was quite satisfactory.

They returned to the hotel early to rest, as they couldn’t be late for the conference the next day.

After taking a shower, Zhang Hao lay on the bed, while the Director of Surgery went to take his shower.

But halfway through, someone knocked on the door, and when Zhang Hao got up to open it, he found the Head Nurse.

Wearing pajamas and holding a bunch of stuff, the Head Nurse said, "The water in my room isn’t hot."
