Chapter 459: Chapter 456: The Transparent Glass Wall
Returning to the hotpot restaurant, the local police swiftly arrived and understood the whole affair.
They concluded that Zhang Hao and He Qianhui bore no responsibility.
The young man helplessly held his head and wept, saying that his parents were farmers and that the lost money came from selling a year’s worth of grain as well as from borrowing from neighbors.
Without this money, he couldn’t afford to go to school.
The police said they would help look for the thief, but told him to be prepared for the possibility that his tuition and living expenses might have been squandered.
"Officer, does this mean there’s nothing to do with us anymore?" Zhang Hao asked.
"No, you’re free to go."
With the officer’s words, Zhang Hao took He Qianhui back to the car and drove away.
"That boy seems pretty unlucky, but his clothes don’t really seem like those of a farmer’s child."
"Those shoes he’s wearing cost two thousand alone, not to mention his clothes and pants are also not cheap."
Zhang Hao said with a soft chuckle, "I thought you wouldn’t notice, just look at the way he talks and acts, he doesn’t seem like he comes from a small place."
"Now I’m beginning to suspect that he’s in on it with the thief, aiming to make us take joint responsibility."
"At best, we’d be shelling out a few hundred, and at worst, we’d be extorted for tuition and living expenses. Thankfully, the police handled this fairly."
"So, where are we headed next?" Zhang Hao asked.
"Let’s drop our luggage off at the hotel first. The car barely moves with two large suitcases, don’t you think?"
The hotel was nearby, chosen for convenience to the night market.
After placing the luggage in the hotel, with plenty of time still early, Zhang Hao drove and took He Qianhui out for fun.
However, as they drove leisurely through the streets, an unfamiliar call suddenly came in.
The number was registered to this very place.
"I’m driving, can you answer that for me?"
He Qianhui took the phone, expecting a nuisance call, but the voice from the other end was magnetic, though the tone urgent.
"Is this Doctor Zhang?"
"Who’s this?" He Qianhui didn’t instantly confirm.
"I’m a doctor at the secondary hospital. We have a patient who urgently needs treatment. I already tried calling Doctor Zhang Hao’s hospital line."
"He mentioned you were both in the area, so I took the liberty of dialing his personal number."
During the call, He Qianhui chose the speaker option, allowing Zhang Hao to clearly hear everything the so-called doctor said.
"Hello, this is Zhang Hao. What can I help you with?"
The doctor on the line got straight to the point, briefing Zhang Hao on their situation.
"Alright, I’ve got it. I’ll call my hospital now to verify the authenticity of this matter. Please send me the address of your hospital afterwards."
The doctor on the line repeatedly thanked them, and Zhang Hao responded with a courteous, "You’re welcome."
After hanging up, Zhang Hao indicated for He Qianhui to call Tong’an Hospital.
To inquire if the matter was genuine and also to confirm the identity of the caller.
Most importantly, how did his colleagues at the hospital know he was present in this location?
He didn’t recall disclosing his first travel destination.
After calling back and getting confirmation, Zhang Hao then asked, "How did you know I was here?"
The leader on the other line was browsing through social media.
"Didn’t you post on your Moments? There’s a location tag below it."
Zhang Hao made a sound of realization; indeed, he had just shared a selfie of the two of them in his Moments.
Typically, he wasn’t one to use location tagging.
But just when he was updating his status, the hot pot had already boiled, and in his panic, he didn’t cancel the location sharing.
Twenty minutes later, Zhang Hao arrived at the second hospital with He Qianhui.
The doctor had already been waiting there for quite some time.
"Doctor Zhang, I know your traditional Chinese medicine skills are impressive, please take a look at our patient quickly," the doctor requested.
Zhang Hao hadn’t expected that he would end up seeing a patient while on a trip.
After spending about half an hour, he finally determined the cause of the patient’s illness.
The situation was indeed somewhat serious, and Zhang Hao had his own initial doubts.
Only after reviewing various tests was he able to determine the illness.
Knowing the problem, he prescribed the appropriate treatment.
By the end of the whole process, Zhang Hao realized that it had grown dark outside.
Just as it got dark, he planned to take He Qianhui to the night market for a stroll.
After dispensing the medicine, they didn’t linger too long in the hospital.
Even though the doctor repeatedly expressed his gratitude, Zhang Hao just smiled faintly.
He addressed the matter lightly and left without leaving a name or seeking recognition.
Arriving at the night market, He Qianhui held onto Zhang Hao’s arm and said softly, "I didn’t expect you to be such a skilled doctor, able to treat people wherever you go."
"I thought you were going to perform surgery on someone in this hospital today. It’s a good thing it was just a pulse diagnosis."
"But that patient seemed quite pitiable, so young and yet afflicted with such a serious illness. What will her future be like?"
What the patient’s future held was not something Zhang Hao considered too much.
"Treat illnesses when they arise, nurture health otherwise; everyone will die sooner or later, and the two of us will, too."
In the bustling night market brimming with life, Zhang Hao uttered such words.
He Qianhui covered his mouth.
"Don’t talk nonsense with such an ominous mouth. Let’s go over there and take a look. I heard there are lots of tasty foods at this night market. Let’s buy a little more and have them as a midnight snack back at the hotel."
Zhang Hao nodded. After a walk around, his hands were already full with more than ten bags,
containing all sorts of items, big and small. Returning to the car, he placed the food in the back seat and started the car to head back to the hotel.
Overall, the day had been quite fulfilling. By the time they returned to the hotel, both were too tired to move.
Fortunately, He Qianhui had planned ahead and bought them both a pair of comfortable sports shoes suitable for walking.
Even after a day’s walk, they didn’t feel too tired, but it was their first time walking such a distance, and their bodies could barely take it.
After resting for a while on the bed, Zhang Hao got up and spread all the things they had bought on the table.
The hot pot meal had almost digested, and He Qianhui opened a box of watermelon and took a bite.
"Go take a shower first. I’m a bit tired and need to rest for a bit."
Zhang Hao responded and, with a change of clothes, went to the bathroom.
He discovered that the bathroom walls were made of transparent glass, and He Qianhui could see everything he did inside, crystal clear.
Although they had often showered together, standing in front of the glass wall, Zhang Hao suddenly felt a bit reserved.
He decided to turn his back to He Qianhui, who ate her watermelon while occasionally glancing towards the bathroom.
When Zhang Hao finished the shower and came out, wrapped in a towel around his waist,
He Qianhui chuckled, "Why, are you afraid I’ll look? There’s not a single spot on your body I haven’t seen."
Zhang Hao huffed and sat down on the sofa.
"The water temperature was just right. You should shower too; after all the walking today, you’re covered in sweat."
Just as He Qianhui was about to stand up, she felt a numbness in her legs. Losing her balance, she flopped back onto the ground.
