Chapter 444: Chapter 441 Kiss
"Just because you can carry me, doesn’t mean I’m not fat. Look at this belly of mine, the fat is nearly spilling out."
Zhang Hao whispered into He Qianhui’s ear, "Being a bit chubby is more comfortable. If you were all bones, I’d complain about the discomfort when I sleep holding you."
He Qianhui gave him a sidelong glance and hurriedly looked for paper and a pen to draw up a short-term diet plan for herself.
As long as she reached a weight she was satisfied with that would be enough; she wasn’t a runway model who needed to slim down to skin and bones.
Besides, her job required her to travel between major cities; she really needed the stamina.
Zhang Hao didn’t try to stop her, knowing that dieting required a high degree of self-discipline.
And since the process was quite painful, only a small portion of people could stick to it.
"For breakfast, are you going out with me or should I bring it back?"
He Qianhui waved her hand and said, "It’s too hot. Just bring it back. I don’t want to go down to eat."
Zhang Hao didn’t say much, grabbed his phone, changed his shoes, and left.
By coincidence, he ran into the female neighbor as she and her husband were also heading out. She took the initiative to greet him, "Doctor Zhang, not off to work yet?"
Zhang Hao replied with a smile, "I woke up early and have plenty of time. I’m going down to buy breakfast to take back. What about you two?"
"We’re also going down for breakfast. We really appreciated your hot pot dinner last night, but my husband came back in a rush."
"We don’t have anything prepared at home, so we have to go out. Do you want to invite Xiaohui to join us?" the woman suggested.
Zhang Hao was about to decline, but then he thought that the food wouldn’t taste as good if he took it back,
so he pushed the door open and called out toward the living room, "Xiaohui, let’s go together."
He Qianhui was startled, realizing there might be someone else there.
"Alright, wait for me to change clothes."
After hurriedly changing, He Qianhui followed Zhang Hao and the couple into the elevator.
Xiaohui teased the female neighbor, "Not bad, yesterday you looked quite pale."
"Overnight, your complexion has turned rosy and there’s more of a smile on your face."
"Indeed, a husband’s care is more effective than thousands of skincare products."
The female neighbor shyly lowered her head and leaned into her man’s embrace.
"Don’t tease me, Xiaohui. We didn’t really do much last night," she protested.
"He came back so late, I didn’t have the heart to keep him up any longer. Besides, this time he’s back for good."
Hearing this news, both Zhang Hao and He Qianhui felt happy for the female neighbor.
"Isn’t that great? A woman, after all, needs a man’s care to keep getting better," Zhang Hao agreed.
The female neighbor looked at her man with eyes full of love, feeling like the happiest person in the world at that moment.
As the elevator doors opened, the four of them stepped out one after the other.
They arrived at a breakfast stall outside the community.
Many customers were there early in the morning, and they waited a while before finding a free spot.
The two men took on the busy work of ordering and serving without hesitation.
He Qianhui and the female neighbor sat opposite each other, chatting away idly.
Zhang Hao remembered everything that He Qianhui loved to eat and brought them all over to her, not missing a single item.
As for the female neighbor’s husband, he brought over a full plate of everything as well, just that it looked rather messy.
Not as organized as what Zhang Hao had put together.
They hadn’t been eating for long when He Qianhui jokingly said.
"Look at you two, eating breakfast together like you’re strangers."
"If I didn’t know you were a married couple, I’d think you were sharing a table with someone you didn’t know."
The female neighbor hadn’t realized until He Qianhui pointed it out, but then she became aware that she hadn’t had much intimate interaction with her own husband.
"Xiaohui, don’t tease us, you know it’s rare for us to see each other."
"If we were living together every day, things definitely wouldn’t be like this, but ... but ..."
In the end, the female neighbor couldn’t continue, and the man took over the conversation.
"Don’t blame her, it’s all my fault."
"I heard from Juanzi that Doctor Zhang is helping her recuperate, even saying that her health could return to that of a normal person. Is that true?"
"I don’t care how much it costs during this process. As long as my wife can get back to normal, I’m more than willing."
To this, Zhang Hao waved off the comment: "It’s not as dramatic as that, and there’s no need for you to spend your entire fortune."
"Look at her current condition, much improved. Actually, her health issues come from malnourishment in her daily diet and also from missing someone too much."
As for the person mentioned by Zhang Hao, it goes without saying who he was talking about.
The man also sighed, "It’s all my fault that I left her alone at home in my pursuit to earn more money."
"Hardly seeing her face even a few times throughout the year. But this time is different, I’ve decided to come back—even if I earn less money—it’s important to be with her."
Breakfast doesn’t usually take much time, but the four of them spent half an hour talking and laughing before they finished eating.
After returning home, Zhang Hao asked He Qianhui whether she should go to work tomorrow.
He Qianhui calculated the time and nodded, "Yeah, why the sudden question?"
"I was thinking of taking you to work. I’m suddenly a bit envious of your job, even though I meet a lot of weird people on business trips."
"But every time I come back, I have a little vacation. Unlike me, who hardly gets any days off in a month. Do you think I should ..."
Zhang Hao hadn’t even finished his sentence when He Qianhui cut him off.
"Don’t wish for anything else. Our life now is very good, and I’m very satisfied. Go to work quickly, or you’ll be late."
Zhang Hao deliberately moved his face closer to hers, pointing to his own cheek.
"Kiss me once, kiss me once and I’ll go."
He Qianhui planted a firm kiss on Zhang Hao’s cheek.
Thankfully she hadn’t put on lipstick that morning, or else there would have been a lipstick mark on half of his face.
That would have led others to wonder and perhaps speculate unnecessarily.
As soon as he arrived at the hospital, Zhang Hao received a call from his superior.
Telling him to wait before heading to his department and to come to his office first.
Not knowing what had happened, Zhang Hao still followed his superior’s instructions.
This time, it wasn’t just him who had come; the head of surgery was there too.
Besides the two of them, the only person in the office was their superior.
The leader looked at them with a smile and said, "Our hospital wants to promote a capable doctor."
"After much thought, I believe that out of the current pool, you two are the best in abilities."
"So if either of you has interest in this area, you can talk to me about it."
Zhang Hao thought to himself that he just wanted to be a doctor who treats and saves patients.
As for those social niceties and colleague relationships that require careful handling,
he didn’t want to waste too much time on them.
