Chapter 432: Chapter 429: Do You Like Me?
Chapter 429: Do You Like Me?
Even though he was tired, Zhang Hao didn’t let He Qianhui work alone in the kitchen.
Even if he wasn’t helping, he would still chat and talk with her on the side.
After all, she had just woken up and wasn’t in her best mental state.
Talking with her helped her wake up more quickly.
"Today, a young nurse from our department almost called you," he said.
"Who? Do I know her?"
He Qianhui only knew Lin Wan, but she no longer worked at that hospital.
So it definitely wasn’t Lin Wan who was going to call her.
As for the other nurses, she might know of one named Qin Miaoke, but that girl came from no ordinary background and had no reason to call her either.
Whether there were any other new nurses in the department, she had no idea.
"You know her, it’s that Qin Miaoke. This afternoon, she suddenly pulled me aside where no one else was," he continued.
"I thought she was going to confess to me, and I was prepared to reject her."
"But unexpectedly, she told me she wanted me to accompany her on a date."
Zhang Hao deliberately paused at this point.
He grabbed a bottle of mineral water from the refrigerator and took a sip to moisten his throat.
He also took the opportunity to observe the changes in He Qianhui’s facial expression.
It seemed that he had anticipated her reaction, and he spoke unhurriedly.
"Then, she told me that she was going on a blind date tonight, which Elder Qin had arranged for her."
"But she didn’t like it and asked if I could pretend to be her boyfriend."
"To ward off that guy, how could I interfere in such a situation?"
"So I turned her down. But what none of us expected was that the guy actually found his way to our department."
"But I was rushing to get home, so I don’t know how things turned out afterward."
Now He Qianhui understood: "So she was using you as a shield. I was wondering how such a young girl could possibly fancy you."
"Among so many women, I figure only if I were blind would I fall for you."
Zhang Hao immediately felt dissatisfied when he heard this.
"What do you mean ’only if you were blind’ to like me? Are you saying you’re blind?"
"I’m so handsome, and my abilities are outstanding, whether at work or life, I’m impeccable. You’re very lucky to be with me."
He Qianhui’s knife sliced down, cutting a straight cucumber in half.
With a forceful whack of the knife spine, the innocent cucumber was crushed.
Zhang Hao couldn’t help but feel a twinge of pain below his waist.
"Such narcissistic words, I advise you to stop saying them in the future, just in case you end up injuring yourself one day."
"As for how capable you are, others might not know, but am I not clear on it?"
"Although last night you performed quite well, that’s probably just once or twice a month, I guess."
"You’ve been acting very strange lately," said Zhang Hao as he walked in.
"You never tease me like this. What’s gotten into you? Since yesterday, you’ve been doubting my abilities."
"What gave you the wrong impression that your husband is not up to par?"
As they spoke, Zhang Hao embraced He Qianhui from behind, which made her incredibly nervous.
"What are you up to now? I have a knife in my hand, be careful or I might accidentally hurt you if I lose control."
"Hurt me? If you do, you’d have to take care of me, so you won’t really do anything to me," he replied.
"I’m telling you, we should have a fight, full-blown combat for a few days straight, then you’d know my strength."
"Let’s not cook dinner just yet, I need to prove my strength so no one doubts it."
Zhang Hao, still holding He Qianhui, returned to the bedroom. But this time, he didn’t plan to do it so many times in quick succession.
It was like a fierce stir-fry, as he exerted himself over her body.
Only then did she finally understand why she felt so tired during the day today.
It was because someone overexerted himself on her last night, forcing her to respond at every moment.
Such a response drained her energy, and now she’d finally figured out the problem.
After enjoying themselves once, He Qianhui refused Zhang Hao’s notion of going another round.
She quickly changed clothes and hurried to the kitchen, even closing the kitchen door to stop him from entering.
Neither of them were the kinds to restrain themselves. If he barged in again, it was likely they would have another go right there.
Then she would turn into a puddle of mush again, and he would surely laugh her to death.
When it came time for dinner, He Qianhui tirelessly peeled shrimp for Zhang Hao while she herself hardly ate.
Zhang Hao, however, didn’t refuse.
Looking at the bowl full of shrimp, He Qianhui said with a smile, "You’ve been working hard these past few days, eat more to replenish."
"Eating shrimp won’t do much. I’ll buy some oysters tomorrow."
As Zhang Hao glanced up, He Qianhui immediately looked down, avoiding any eye contact with him.
To avoid any misunderstandings that might lead to something more when they actually lay down to rest, Zhang Hao still held her in his arms.
Once he held her, he didn’t make any further moves, simply placing his hand gently on her stomach.
"In the future, when the young nurses in your department ask for your help, just help them out," she suggested.
"Otherwise, they might think their boss can’t solve their problems."
Zhang Hao argued, "Arranged dates are personal matters. How can I, as their chief, interfere in their private affairs?"
"Besides, if Elder Qin introduced someone to her, how could I, his apprentice, meddle?"
"She’s afraid of her grandfather, she won’t defy him. She’s using me as a shield, but I’m not dumb."
"However, I think it might turn out well. The guy is quite handsome and straightforward."
"For Elder Qin to go to such lengths, I expect the guy comes from a good family too."
"It’s just whether Qin Miaoke will appreciate Elder Qin’s good intentions."
"If she does understand, a good life surely awaits her."
He Qianhui felt there was something off about that statement.
"That nurse comes from a decent background herself, she doesn’t need to climb up the social ladder through her husband’s family to improve her standing."
"You know, it could very well be the guy who’s trying to reach higher by putting on a good front."
"Sometimes men are more realistic than women. Pursuing true love in this society shouldn’t be the subject of ridicule."
"Just like when I got together with your cousin. Wasn’t it arranged by others? After a few meetings, we rushed into marriage."
"Only after being together did we realize how important mutual affection is."
Hearing this, Zhang Hao quickly asked with seriousness, "So do you like me now? Tell me the truth, don’t lie to me."
