Chapter 288: Chapter 285: Wrong Expression
Among that crowd, he heard a familiar voice—Zhang Hao went over and confirmed it was indeed Liang Yun.
It seemed that the person in the hospital room must be her younger cousin’s husband.
Zhang Hao stood with his hands in his pockets and listened quietly for a while.
Only when Liang Yun turned around did he greet her.
"Doctor Zhang, what are you doing here?"
"Surgery called me over," he said. "They wanted me to take a look at a leg."
Upon hearing that, Liang Yun’s mouth curved upward, "I see. I didn’t expect that, Doctor Zhang, in addition to traditional Chinese medicine, you also understand surgery."
"It seems you don’t know me very well. I studied surgery in college," said Zhang Hao.
"I just heard the chief of surgery saying that you all were not planning to use anesthesia on the patient, which seems somewhat inhumane. At the very least, you should administer a local anesthetic," Liang Yun hadn’t even had a chance to speak when a burly man behind her raised his hand and came over.
"No, no, that bastard has made my sister live like a widow for two years."
"If we don’t teach him a lesson, he’ll really think the Liang family has no one to stand up for it," the man continued.
Zhang Hao said jokingly, "That’s against our hospital’s policies. At the very least, we need to give him a local anesthetic."
Liang Yun pushed the man away, "If you really have the guts, break his third leg as well."
"What’s the point of just breaking one of his left legs? Anyway, as soon as he wakes up, my little cousin is definitely going to divorce him."
"She can’t continue living under the same roof as this kind of person. In a few years, she’ll be thirty, and by then being a high-risk mother will definitely make life harder."
Seeing Liang Yun say this, Zhang Hao didn’t feel it was his place to comment. They argued outside the hospital room for a good while,
before they finally made up their minds that anesthesia was still necessary.
But it could only numb the lower body; they wanted him to be clear-headed through the surgery.
Zhang Hao also gave his verbal support to this decision.
After the patient was wheeled into the operating room, the anesthetist approached Zhang Hao to confirm that the patient really was going to receive only a local anesthetic.
"Full anesthesia is not an option," Zhang Hao told her. "Control the dosage, making sure he can wake up after the surgery."
The anesthetist took a deep breath, caressing her chest, as a delicate voice came from beneath her mask,
"This is indeed a challenge, but I’m up for it."
Once everything was ready, the patient was lifted onto the operating table.
The patient looked at Zhang Hao pitifully, his voice tinged with a sobbing tone,
"Doctor, doctor, you can’t listen to him, you have to give me general anesthesia."
"As long as you give me general anesthesia, I’ll definitely thank you after I’m better," he said.
Zhang Hao nodded repeatedly and whispered some words of comfort.
Then he urged the anesthetist to administer the drug quickly.
He hadn’t even counted to ten before the man was soundly asleep.
The surgery lasted almost two hours. In the end, as they were finishing the sutures, the man really did wake up.
The anesthetist gave Zhang Hao an OK gesture from behind him, and Zhang Hao responded with an appreciative look.
"Alright, the surgery was very successful. You’ll be wheeled out in a bit," he said.
The man nodded, his eyes filled with gratitude.
Upon exiting the operating room, Liang Yun was the first to approach Zhang Hao,
"How did it go? Did he show any remorse at all?"
"He’ll be wheeled out shortly and taken to the ward for observation. If there’s no trouble, he’ll be discharged in a few days to recover at home," Zhang Hao replied.
"No need, he’ll be discharged right after coming out. I am now his wife, and I have the right to decide all of this," said Liang Yun’s younger cousin, her voice giving off an unimaginable feeling.
"I only performed the surgery, his primary physician is over there. If he agrees, I have nothing to say. I’ll be leaving now," said Zhang Hao.
It was the head of surgery who had called him over to help out at the last minute.
He needed to return to his own department to see his patients.
But as soon as Zhang Hao came back, Liang Yun also followed him.
Along with her little cousin.
"It wasn’t a good time to express my gratitude with so many people around earlier, so I want to thank you now, Doctor Zhang. If it weren’t for the question you asked this morning, I fear my little cousin might still be stuck living in misery."
Zhang Hao didn’t see it as anything significant; the question he had asked was just an offhand one.
He had never imagined it would lead to so much trouble.
"This is simply a place for treating and saving people; I generally prefer not to get involved in marital issues, so you needn’t thank me."
Liang Yun’s cousin, Liang Xi, approached Zhang Hao of her own accord.
"Doctor Zhang, I still have to thank you. I was ready to continue to endure."
"But it was the question you asked today that gave me the courage to speak up."
"I was able to escape that kind of life because of you. When you’re off, I’ll take you out for a meal."
Zhang Hao had heard such things countless times, but since she had the thought, it was always a good thing.
However, Liang Yun, standing to the side, found her cousin’s expression somewhat strange.
"Doctor Zhang, we won’t disturb you any longer, so we’ll get going now," said Liang Yun.
After saying that, Liang Xi grabbed her cousin, Liang Yun, turned around, and left.
As they turned away, Liang Yun leaned in close to her cousin’s ear and asked, "Little girl, the way I saw you look at Mr. Zhang just now was a bit off."
"You couldn’t possibly have taken a liking to him, could you? After all, by all accounts, you two haven’t even met for ten minutes."
Liang Xi shook her head: "What are you talking about, cousin? I’m just grateful to him is all."
At the end of his shift, Zhang Hao suddenly received a call from his superiors.
It appeared the hospital wanted to shoot a promotional video.
They were looking to select a few photogenic medical staff members, both handsome men and beautiful women.
Among the men, Zhang Hao was one of them, and as for women, there were plenty to choose from.
Of course, the video would naturally have to be filmed during the doctors’ downtime.
Otherwise, it would interfere with patient appointments.
Just thinking about working overtime afterward made Zhang Hao want to refuse.
But the relentless persuasion from the leadership left him with no choice but to agree.
The one to work alongside Zhang Hao was Han Yang, the anesthetist he had performed surgery with that day.
It was the first time Han Yang had worked with Zhang Hao in the operating room.
It was thought there would be no chemistry between the two, but surprisingly, they clicked right from their first surgery together.
Now, shooting the hospital’s promotional video together, they were quite the handsome man and the beautiful woman.
In the middle of shooting, Zhang Hao didn’t forget to call He Qianhui to tell her he would be home later that evening.
Han Yang handed him a bottle of water: "Mr. Zhang, are you thirsty?"
Zhang Hao took the water and thanked her. He chatted with He Qianhui for a couple more sentences on the phone before hanging up.
"The leaders of this hospital are inhuman, really. Who knows when we’ll finish shooting." Zhang Hao complained.
"Mr. Zhang seems in a hurry to get home. There must be someone there you can’t stop thinking about," Han Yang remarked.
Zhang Hao had to admit it was true.
"That’s true, but you did well today," he said.
Han Yang looked down, blushing slightly in a way that Zhang Hao couldn’t quite notice.
This was the first time someone had complimented her, and the fact that this person was one of the hospital’s notable figures made it all the more special.
"Doctor Zhang, don’t say that. I was just doing my duty," she said.
