Chapter 280: Chapter 277 I’ll Protect You

But Qin Miaoke knew all too well that she couldn’t possibly have the good fortune of He Qianhui.

"Actually, you’re not bad at all, at least you have had a few unforgettable memories with Mr. Zhang, unlike me, who hasn’t had any."

Lin Wan looked at Qin Miaoke in surprise. Was this really something you could blurt out in such a setting?

"What did you say?"

Even though she had heard every word, Lin Wan pretended not to have caught it clearly.

Nevertheless, Qin Miaoke understood Lin Wan’s well-intentioned efforts.

"It’s nothing, I’m heading off work now."

Qin Miaoke left the hospital and just happened to see Zhang Hao and He Qianhui getting into a car.

Their every frown and smile were enviably charming.

Qin Miaoke finally understood that there was no chance of her being together with Zhang Hao. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

But as long as she could continue working by Zhang Hao’s side, that was good enough.

By his side, at least she could see him every day.

On the way home, Zhang Hao also chatted intermittently with He Qianhui.

"Today, the young girls at the company said they wanted to try their luck at your hospital, see if they could also find someone handsome."

While driving, Zhang Hao responded, "So what did you tell them?"

With a happy smile on her face, He Qianhui said in a low voice, "Of course, I told them that the chances are very slim."

Zhang Hao wasn’t actually sure about the likelihood either, but he often discussed medical conditions with doctors at the hospital.

Excellent people are essentially not in circulation, either they have families or they already have someone they like and are in the midst of a passionate romance.

As for the single ones, they’re mostly greenhorns just out of school, and he guessed He Qianhui’s female colleagues wouldn’t be interested in that sort either.

Looking at it this way, the chances of meeting an outstanding doctor were indeed slim.

"That being the case, you are truly lucky to have met someone as good as me."

He Qianhui couldn’t bear Zhang Hao’s vanity, clicking her tongue twice, "Some people, could you please not gild yourself. You’re not that great either."

Faced with He Qianhui’s teasing, Zhang Hao wasn’t angry, "Can’t I be a little narcissistic? I’m quite popular in the hospital."

Downstairs at home, He Qianhui, as usual, was getting ready to get out of the car when her cellphone rang.

"I need to take this call, you park the car first."

Zhang Hao didn’t think much of it, simply assuming it was a colleague from work calling.

But when Zhang Hao got out of the car, he saw He Qianhui, who was usually very calm, looking extremely agitated.

That indicated the person on the other end of the phone probably wasn’t someone from work.

Approaching her, Zhang Hao looked at her with a puzzled glance, "What’s wrong?"

"If you dare to disturb my life, don’t blame me for being ruthless."

Before knowing who was on the other end of the phone, Zhang Hao snatched the cellphone away.

He was stunned for a moment upon seeing the number—it was actually his cousin.

Ever since his cousin and He Qianhui had divorced, there had been almost no news about him. Receiving a call from him now was indeed a surprise.

As for what his cousin had said on the phone, Zhang Hao didn’t know yet.

But whatever it was must have been unpleasant, to have made He Qianhui so furious.

"Cousin, it’s Hao,"

Before making sure the call wasn’t disconnected, Liu Gang remained silent.

Zhang Hao first glanced at He Qianhui’s state and signaled her to go upstairs first, leaving this minor issue for him to handle.

However, He Qianhui was still somewhat worried, afraid that Liu Gang would blurt out something thoughtless again.

She stayed by Zhang Hao’s side, waiting until she saw him hang up the phone.

"What did he say?"

"He didn’t say anything, just hung up directly. Don’t take it to heart."

The mood of both of them had been good, but now it had been disrupted by this phone call.

He Qianhui no longer felt like cooking, but Zhang Hao, acting as if nothing had happened, busied himself in the kitchen.

However, his cooking skills were far from being as good as He Qianhui’s.

"I just stir-fried a couple of dishes, let’s eat something first."

Because of Liu Gang’s call, He Qianhui felt a lump in her throat but didn’t want Zhang Hao’s effort to go to waste.

"Hao, what’s going on with Liu Gang, why would he suddenly call me?"

As for the reason behind this call, Zhang Hao also took the time to analyze it, probably because of the photo from yesterday.

Before this, their daily life had never been made public on a public platform.

It was only yesterday that they both showed off their affection in their friends’ circles.

His cousin had deleted him, so there was no way he could have seen it from there.

That left only He Qianhui. Perhaps it was because the two of them cherished old feelings.

After Liu Gang left the city, nobody knew what kind of life he led.

He most likely saw how at ease the two of them were and felt imbalanced, calling to vent his dissatisfaction.

"Then how about I block and delete him now? Then he won’t be able to see anything I post."

Zhang Hao did not object to this. Cousin or not, he wasn’t a real brother.

Even if one were to retreat ten thousand steps, the two of them were already divorced, and Zhang Hao’s pursuit had only begun after the divorce.

Having clarified the matter, He Qianhui was finally able to relax her troubled mind.

"Alright, don’t trouble yourself over such trivial matters, quickly try my cooking and see how it is."

After dinner, He Qianhui blocked all of Liu Gang’s contact information.

As long as she didn’t release him from the blacklist, there was no way he could affect her life unless he showed up at her doorstep.

This unexpected call also made He Qianhui realize something.

The stable life she now enjoyed was hard-earned, and a peaceful life had always been what she sought.

No one could disturb her life.

"What are you thinking about, so lost in thought?"

Zhang Hao came in with a glass of milk and saw He Qianhui leaning on the bed with a pillow, looking dazed and not very natural.

"I wasn’t thinking about anything, just that I really like our life now, and I don’t want anyone to disturb it."

Handing the milk to He Qianhui, Zhang Hao also spoke in a gentle tone:

"No one will, who can disturb our good life? If anyone dares, let’s have the police uncle take them away."

After drinking the milk, He Qianhui suddenly felt that her mood really had become much better, and at this moment, the two of them grew even more affectionate.

Under the warmth of affection, something was bound to happen, and He Qianhui was not averse to it.

In the blink of an eye, the two of them got entangled with each other, seemingly forgetting about the phone incident.

The main light in the room was turned off, leaving only two small bedside lamps on.

It wasn’t pitch black, nor was it too bright.

Under the dim light, Zhang Hao observed He Qianhui’s eyebrows and eyes carefully.

His fingertips gently traced her features, and their faces were only two or three centimeters apart.

The warm breath from their exhalations hit directly on each other’s faces.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"

Zhang Hao shook his head, his eyes full of tenderness as he looked at her.

"From now on, I won’t let anyone hurt you, no one at all."
