Chapter 266: Chapter 263: A Night of Fierce Battle
Zhang Hao rushed upstairs swiftly, and without even steadying himself, he threw the knife he was holding.
Though he had prepared himself for the knife to go off course, today the goddess of luck was on his side.
The knife went straight into the attacker’s thigh, a thigh that contains a major artery.
When Zhang Hao threw the knife, he purposely avoided it, but the assailant’s leg dodged a bit.
If he hadn’t dodged, the injury wouldn’t have been so severe, but his dodging seemed to ensure that the knife really did hit the spot right where the major artery was.
In an instant, the intruder no longer cared about the baseball bat in his hand.
"Don’t pull it out, if you do, you won’t be able to stop the bleeding. Anyway, the police will be here in a moment, let them take you to the hospital."
The intruder glared at Zhang Hao with resentment, as well as at Gu Yue, wishing he could flay them both.
The police arrived soon after and saw that the intruder had already been subdued, and in a very brutal manner at that.
The officer in charge of the case was shocked.
After verifying Zhang Hao and Gu Yue’s identities, they took the intruder away.
Watching the intruder limp out, Gu Yue crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"Do you know how expensive that knife was? I was planning to use it to improve my cooking skills, never thought it would be bloodied."
"How much did it cost? I’ll buy you a new set to make up for it."
Gu Yue shook her head, "No need, I’ll just buy a random one later, I don’t need to get something so expensive that I would feel sorry if I lost it."
Luckily, nothing was stolen from the house, but Gu Yue couldn’t forget the smile that the intruder had given her, which was quite frightening.
"Don’t leave tonight, I’m scared."
Truth be told, Zhang Hao hadn’t planned on leaving, and with such an incident happening, he definitely needed to stay just in case.
What if that person had accomplices?
"I’d say, you should move back to the city after this. Come and stay here for a couple of days when you have spare time."
"A girl like you living so far out, if something really happened, the police might not even get here in time."
"Lucky for you I was here today, otherwise you’d be on the news tomorrow."
Gu Yue understood what Zhang Hao was saying, but she particularly liked living in a quiet environment.
"I’ll think about it, worst comes to worst, I’ll just hire a couple of bodyguards. There’s enough room for them to sleep here anyway."
Upon hearing the word ’bodyguards,’ Zhang Hao immediately became tense.
"Those bodyguards better be women, though. If they’re men, I’d be afraid they’d have designs on you."
"You’re wealthy and beautiful—gold diggers these days aren’t just women; men can be quite materialistic too."
Hearing him say this, Gu Yue wrapped her hands around Zhang Hao’s neck.
"What about you, then? Are you a gold digger? Do you also want to skip working hard for twenty years? I’ll give you that chance today."
"Haven’t you given me plenty of chances already? To be content is to have lifelong happiness."
Before he could finish speaking, Gu Yue’s expression subtly changed.
And the next second, Zhang Hao added, "I’ll be greedy tonight."
The minor interlude with the intruder didn’t interfere with their plans that night.
After securing the doors and windows, they headed straight for the bedroom.
There, Gu Yue could shout as loudly as she wanted without worrying about disturbing the neighbors.
Because it was just the two of them there.
Apart from them, there were only birds and insects.
After a night of passion, Zhang Hao slept in until noon the next day and when he saw the time,
and the missed calls on his phone, he knew he was in trouble.
His phone had an alarm set, but apparently it had gone off, and he hadn’t heard it.
The stirring woke Gu Yue, who was sleeping beside him, and she too quickly got up.
"What’s wrong?"
"I’m going to be late for work,"
Gu Yue quickly glanced at her phone and hurried into her clothes.
Today, she was supposed to meet a client coming from abroad, and there was less than an hour left before the client’s arrival.
She was initially supposed to personally pick up the client from the airport, but now, it was too late.
She swiftly activated plan B, sending someone she trusted to pick up the client instead.
While this was a way to remedy the situation, it meant she didn’t have to rush anymore.
"Let me drop you off at the hospital first,"
Zhang Hao responded, and after they both washed up in succession, they left the house.
Zhang Hao had arrived at the hospital when Qin Miaoke was the first to question him.
Why didn’t you answer your phone after so many calls? Didn’t you know today was the day your grandfather was coming?
Zhang Hao genuinely didn’t know about Elder Qin’s visit that day.
It had only been mentioned that Elder Qin would come in a few days, but no specific date was given.
"Where’s the old man?"
"He’s still on the way. If you were any later, you really wouldn’t have been able to see him."
Learning that Elder Qin was still on his way, Zhang Hao finally breathed a sigh of relief.
An hour later, a black business car stopped at the hospital’s entrance.
Qin Miaoke proactively ran over and opened the rear car door.
Elder Qin got out of the car and immediately saw Zhang Hao in the crowd.
"Zhang Hao, I thought you wouldn’t have time to see this old fool today."
Zhang Hao quickly shook his head, "How could that be possible? Besides, Miaoke had already reminded me earlier."
In front of Grandpa, Qin Miaoke retained face for Zhang Hao.
"Grandpa, you must be exhausted from the lectures this time. After you get back, you really should rest more. Don’t go so far next time."
Elder Qin always smiled and looked at Zhang Hao again.
"This little granddaughter of mine, she hasn’t caused you trouble, has she? This girl doesn’t listen to anyone except her parents and this old man."
Zhang Hao waved his hands repeatedly, ensuring that since Qin Miaoke had given him face, he too should make her look good.
"Master, Miaoke is actually very obedient, and she has been a great help to me at work, too," Zhang Hao said.
Qin Miaoke, feeling grateful for Zhang Hao’s words, hugged her grandfather’s arm and spoke.
"Grandpa, your granddaughter hasn’t disgraced you here. Let’s go inside and talk; it doesn’t look good just standing out here."
Apart from Qin Miaoke and Zhang Hao, hospital leaders also came out to welcome them.
Having such a respected traditional Chinese medicine practitioner visiting was undoubtedly great publicity for their hospital.
If they didn’t take this seriously, they might as well not run the hospital at all.
"Okay okay, as you wish, let’s go in and talk," Elder Qin agreed.
Accompanied by his granddaughter, Elder Qin finally got to see the new look of the hospital.
"Let’s have dinner together tonight," he suggested.
With Elder Qin making such a proposal, Zhang Hao had no reason to refuse.
But Zhang Hao always felt that Elder Qin’s visit was not just about inspecting the hospital; there must be other reasons.
Yet, as to what those reasons were, Zhang Hao couldn’t quite say for sure now.
This elder was very cunning; not something his green self could fully comprehend.
The hospital leadership also seized the opportunity to show Elder Qin the traditional Chinese medicine department, asking if anything was lacking.
But Elder Qin said, "Doesn’t your hospital already have Zhang Hao? Just follow his lead; he is my beloved disciple."
Hearing this, the hospital leadership couldn’t help but regard Zhang Hao with newfound respect.
