Chapter 168: Chapter 166: Don’t Dare to Use Force
The woman who brought Zhang Hao the water was already drunk herself, yet she still thought about taking care of someone else.
Such thoughtfulness indeed deserved thanks.
However, if she had added something inappropriate to the water, then her motives needed to be questioned.
The key was that Yu Wei said this woman had also tampered with her drink before, which was why she felt such strong disgust.
"I just added a bit of fun to the drink, and you had a good time that night, didn’t you? There’s nothing in this glass of water, I swear!"
Having had a previous experience, Yu Wei couldn’t trust her words this time.
Next to her was a Pachira tree, and Yu Wei poured the entire glass of water into the soil.
"I’m not the host today, so I won’t scold you, but I’m planning a dinner for everyone next month, and you better not come. Even if you do, there won’t be a seat for you."
Zhang Hao, an outsider to the dispute, could tell that these two did not get along, and he did not try to mediate.
"Psh, who do you think you are? I don’t just eat any meal offered to me. Talking to you is like a dog snapping at a saint."
Yu Wei suppressed the anger in her heart and did not explode but pulled Zhang Hao to find seats and sit down.
Because of this minor episode, the atmosphere at the dinner became somewhat awkward, but fortunately, someone promptly changed the subject, and everyone went with the flow.
As the toasts continued, Zhang Hao always felt a burning gaze on him.
Whenever he tried to locate it, the person would look at someone else.
After several attempts, Zhang Hao put down his chopsticks and deliberately gazed at the birthday boy!
A few minutes later, the burning gaze appeared again, and when their eyes met, sparks flew!
"I came in a rush today and didn’t prepare a proper gift, so Xiao Han, I’ll just give you a tacky red envelope."
Yu Wei was quite generous, and Zhang Hao saw her press the number 8 four times in a row on the digital keypad!
A red envelope of almost ten thousand yuan!
Xiao Han thanked her repeatedly but did not open the red envelope in front of others to check the amount.
Midway, Zhang Hao went to the restroom to relieve himself and also wanted to get some air. He noticed it was already nine o’clock in the evening.
He hadn’t expected this small birthday gathering to last so long.
As he planned to return, he saw the birthday boy also coming out of the private room, obviously having drunk quite a bit and happy about the day.
Staggering in an S-shape, if it wasn’t for the wall to lean on, he probably would have fallen.
Remembering how Xiao Han had been repeatedly glancing at him during the dinner, it was hard to say that those actions weren’t trying to communicate something.
But Zhang Hao had not come out on purpose.
Watching Xiao Han stagger towards him, Zhang Hao just stood still.
As she got close, Xiao Han could no longer hold back.
"Handsome, seeing a drunk woman coming towards you, you should at least come over and help, rather than standing there like a lamppost."
Zhang Hao raised an eyebrow, "Given my relationship with Miss Yu, it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to do so."
Xiao Han suddenly smiled and leaned back against the cold wall.
"Before coming, I’m sure Miss Yu must have repeatedly instructed you to say you’re her boyfriend if anyone asks."
"But you don’t understand her, and we know her very well. She’s an advocate for singleness and has no interest in dating."
"For years, she has been proclaiming that she’ll never find a boyfriend in this lifetime, and the most crucial thing is that although our interactions aren’t as close as they used to be..."
"We are still quite aware of each other’s recent situations, through any means of communication."
"If Miss Yu really had a boyfriend, how could we not know? What exactly is your relationship with her?"
"To outsiders, at a glance, it’s crystal clear that you two are, at best, just ordinary friends—don’t make it sound like you’re inseparable."
Luckily, before arriving, Yu Wei had repeatedly instructed him that no matter what her friends asked,
he must insist that the two of them were in a romantic relationship.
Now that Xiao Han was asking this way, it was either because she was already certain, or she was trying to trick him.
Fortunately, Zhang Hao had a strong resolve, and he wasn’t swayed by her remarks.
"The reason you think that Yu Wei and I aren’t in a romantic relationship is because we’ve only recently met."
"We’ve known each other for such a short time that she hasn’t had the chance to tell you or let you notice my existence."
"That’s why she chose an occasion like today, to bring me here, to prove my status."
After Zhang Hao finished speaking, he walked away from Xiao Han and headed straight for the private room of the gathering.
As soon as Zhang Hao left, Xiao Han, who had seemed unsteady on her feet earlier, suddenly stood upright,
and watched his retreating figure with a meaningful gaze.
She seemed to ponder whether there really were men in the world who kept away from women, or
could maintain their distance from the opposite sex even when their girlfriend wasn’t around.
But what Xiao Han couldn’t accept the most was Yu Wei’s ability to choose a partner.
She had always claimed that for the sake of her future happiness, she wanted someone "well-endowed and skilled."
Foreign men are strong in that department, at least much better than the domestic ones.
So during an overseas trip, she met a man who looked tall and handsome.
Thinking she had found the right one, it only became clear that he wasn’t up to par when the relationship got intimate.
After the breakup, the matter even became a topic of discussion among friends, luckily, she wasn’t someone with a temper.
Her friends also knew about it, so after discussing it for a few days, they no longer brought it up.
Yet, not long after her breakup, Yu Wei, who wasn’t planning to find a boyfriend, managed to find a handsome man with polite and cultured mannerisms.
Why couldn’t that exceptional man be hers?
Upon returning, Xiao Han noticed that Yu Wei and Zhang Hao had switched seats,
and he had even draped his jacket over her.
Even though it was summer, the evening breeze was still a little cold, not to mention the air conditioning was set low indoors.
"Mr. Zhang really does take good care of our little Wei. With such care, perhaps he can’t bear to be forceful in bed."
"Xiao Han, you’ve drunk too much, how can you say such things?" Another person noticed something was wrong and hurriedly spoke up.
"I haven’t drunk too much; I’m speaking the truth. The more dignified one appears, the less one would expect their hidden side."
"Actually, he’s just a selfish ghost. He clearly saw that I was drunk earlier, but he didn’t come over to help me. He’s not a good man," Xiao Han continued.
"Xiao Han, Mr. Zhang is Yu Wei’s boyfriend; it’s reasonable that he doesn’t get too close to you. It seems you’re overthinking," said a friend, coming to her defense.
"Seems like it’s time for us to leave. Thank you for your hospitality, Xiao Han," said Yu Wei, sensing trouble and promptly taking Zhang Hao away from the place of conflict.
Once they left the private room, Yu Wei kept patting her chest.
"Doctor Zhang, let’s go ahead and leave."
Zhang Hao didn’t know what Yu Wei was afraid of, but he followed her and they left the restaurant together.
Once in the car, the interior was silent. Yu Wei first glanced at the rearview mirror,
then spoke unhurriedly, "No matter what Xiao Han said, don’t take it to heart."
