Chapter 695: Stop Being So Angry, Michael

Both Mrs. Lucas and Mary agreed with Wendy’s suggestion.

Mrs. Lucas nodded and said, "That sounds good. Whichever bottle is picked, Jake is going to take it, and his fate will be determined by God."

That way, Wendy and Michael wouldn’t feel too guilty even if they didn’t pick the correct bottle.

Michael went silent for a moment and nodded.

"Then I’ll count to three, and we will pick one together." Wendy said.

Michael nodded again.

"One..."

"Two..."

"Three..."

And the second Wendy said ’three’, she and Michael pointed to a bottle of the cure at the same time.

There were three bottles in total, and they had different colors for differentiation.

Michael and Wendy pointed to the green bottle at the same time.

Wendy then looked at Michael after seeing they had picked the green bottle simultaneously.

Mrs. Lucas said, "It seems that God wants you both to choose the green bottle."

Wendy pouted and said, "Green is Jake’s favorite color, and besides, green stands for hope and life. Let’s hope that this is the bottle that has the cure in it."

Michael picked the green bottle for the same reasons as Wendy did.

"Have you made up your mind yet?" Jake’s doctor asked worriedly. "We need to give Jake the cure now if you have decided. He doesn’t have much time anymore.’ Michael and Wendy nodded without hesitation and said, "Yes. The green one."

The doctor nodded, picked up the green bottle and walked to Jake.

Jake’s vital signs on the monitor were extremely unstable, meaning that he could lose his life at any second.

The cure was in powder form. The doctor opened the bottle and Jake’s mouth and quickly poured the powder into his mouth.

He then helped Jake lie back down again after feeding him the cure.

In the meantime, Mrs. Lucas who was standing by the window, made the sign of the cross and started praying faithfully, "Father Lord, please protect my grandson, Jake Stewart. I’ll be more than willing to give up meat if that means they picked the right bottle. Please take away my life in exchange for Jake’s life if you must."

Mrs. Lucas had lived long enough, and she would be happy to give up her life if that meant her great-grandson stood a chance of surviving.

Nobody heard what Mrs. Lucas said as she was whispering to herself.

Wendy kept gazing at Jake as the doctor fed him the cure. She asked, "When will Jake will up?"

"I can’t say for sure," the doctor said, sighing. "This was the first time that we saw poison like that, so this is also a new cure."

The doctor continued, "If the cure didn’t work, Jake would never wake up. Besides, even if the cure worked, it would take Jake a decent amount of time to start regaining consciousness, after all, he was on the brink of total collapse. But don’t worry Mrs. Lucas, we’ll keep monitoring Jake."

Wendy nodded after hearing what the doctor said.

Michael looked at all the researchers standing in front of him and took a deep bow, "Thank you all for your time and efforts. I’ll owe all of you a big favor whether Jake can wake up or not. Come find me whenever you need me in the future."

Michael had been to the lab before, so he knew that the team had been spending day and night trying to make the cure.

It didn’t matter whether he and Wendy had picked the correct cure or not, as he owed his son’s life to them.

The researchers also bowed at Michael and said, "That’s our job, Mr. Lucas."

It was always great to build a bond with Michael.

...

Everyone stayed in Jake’s room as they wanted to see how he would be doing.

And they waited the whole night for it.

Unfortunately, before Jake woke up, Zess’s condition got worse.

She hadn’t taken the cure yet, so she started having trouble breathing and spitting out blood.

Zess was in a less critical situation than Jake was.

After seeing Zess get rushed to the emergency room, Wendy glimpsed at Michael and whispered, "Should we give Zess the cure as well?"

"Jake hasn’t woken up yet, so we don’t know if we have given him the correct bottle or not." Michael said. "There are three bottles of cures in total. If Jake wakes up, we can just give Zess the same one that Jake took. If we didn’t pick the correct one for Jake, Zess will likely be given the correct cure since it will be one out of two bottles."

Which was why they gave Jake the cure before they giving it to Zess.

Michael sighed and said, "Let’s see how Zess is doing. If her condition becomes too critical, we’ll have to give her the cure as well."

Wendy nodded.

As they were discussing, Zess was pushed out of the emergency room, and the doctors told them that she was getting worse.

As for Jake, he was still in his coma.

Wendy asked the doctor, "Can Zess hold on for any longer?"

The doctor shook his head and said, "She’s getting worse, and I don’t think she can survive longer by himself."

Wendy then looked at Michael after hearing what the doctor said.

Although she didn’t ask the question, Michael could tell that she wanted to let Zess try the cure as well.

The doctor seemed to have figured out their intention, so he said, "You can consider giving Zess a bottle of the cure as well. We’re not sure whether you two have picked the correct one for Jake or not, based on his current situation. We can only confirm if he took the cure after he woke up and got better."

Wendy and Michael now faced another tough choice.

"Then we’ll have to give Zess the cure since her condition is deteriorating so fast," Wendy said. "As for which bottle we’re going to choose, should we give her the same cure that Jake took?"

"Yes, let’s do that," Michael hesitated and said.

Wendy thought so as well as it would tie Zess’s and Jake’s lives together.

If they gave them two different bottles of cure, the best scenario was that one of them survived and one of them died, and it was also possible that both of them could die.

After Wendy and Michael reached an agreement, the doctor gave Zess the same cure as well.

At this moment, both Jake and Zess were in a deep coma, and stayed unconscious until the next day.

Early in the morning, Milo came to the hospital bearing news from the research team.

Milo said joyfully, "Michael, Wendy, the research team has finished the final phase of drug testing, and they have confirmed that Jake and Zess did take the correct cure."

The hospital room started bustling after they heard the news from Milo.

Michael grabbed Wendy’s hand and held her tightly in his arms. He kissed her on her forehead excitedly and kept mumbling, "Amazing, amazing..."

They picked the correct bottle with a one-in-three chance of saving Jake, which meant that God was blessing them.

Mrs. Lucas was so ecstatic that she kneeled on the floor. She started brawling out of elation and said, "Thank you, God. Thank you, God!" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Wendy immediately helped Mrs. Lucas get up after seeing it. She said while crying out of joy, ’Why are you on the floor, grandma?"

"Happy! I’m just so happy!" Mrs. Lucas kept repeating it.

"Then when will Jake wake up?" Michael could feel the tears bursting out of his eyes after seeing his family rejoicing at the great news, but his smile started fading away.

...

"We can’t be sure of that." the doctor shook his head and said honestly. "Jake’s vital signs are starting to stabilize, but very slowly. After all, the cure was only recently created, so it might take some time to reach the full effect."

Michael’s and Wendy’s smiles all faded drastically after hearing what the doctor said.

Mary thought for a second and started consoling them, "Didn’t Milo just say that Jake has taken the cure? It’ll only be a matter of time until Jake wakes up."

"That’s right. Jake will wake up at some point," Wendy smiled and looked at Jake.

They had been praying that Jake would wake up as soon as he could, only after which could they rest assured.

Time flew by and five days had passed since they received the news.

Unfortunately, neither Jake nor Zess had woken up from their coma.

The doctor did a full body check on both of them, and he said that they were getting better. However, he still wasn’t sure when they could wake up.

After all, it was a poison that he had never seen before, and the cure was only recently made, so the doctor didn’t have any previous examples that he could refer to.

Wendy was overjoyed when she heard that she picked the correct cure, but now, she started getting worried again.

Today was the day when Wendy needed to do a regular pregnancy check, however, she didn’t have any energy for it.

Michael could see that Wendy kept gazing at Jake. He tapped on her shoulder and said, "Wendy, let’s go get you a pregnancy check-up."

"But what if Jake wakes up during the check and doesn’t see me?" Wendy said worriedly. "I bet Jake wants to see me after he wakes up."

"The check-up won’t take much time, I promise you. Let’s do that quickly and come back for Jake, shall we?" Michael started pressuring Wendy.

Before she could say anything, Michael grabbed her hand and started walking out.

"Oh well, better not have them worry about another person," Wendy thought.

After the doctor got the result, he said, "Mrs. Lucas, you still didn’t have meals and rest properly as we told you to, and the baby obviously didn’t get enough nutritions either. You body won’t be able to cope if you don’t take better care of yourself."

"I did. I did eat properly and on time." Wendy followed up as she didn’t want Michael to worry.

"But based on the result we got, you still haven’t had enough nutrition, but we can tell that you haven’t had enough sleep."

Wendy had been spending almost all of her time taking care of Jake.

Although Michael would try to get her to eat and sleep on time, she never had enough food at each meal. And when Michael asked her to go sleep in the other room, she wasn’t able to fall asleep as she was too worried about Jake.

The doctor said to Michael after Wendy’s silence, "Mr. Lucas, please pay more attention to Mrs. Lucas’s schedule."

Michael immediately nodded and said, "Sure. Thanks, doctor. I’ll make sure that she eats and sleeps properly."

Michael was silent the whole time as they were walking back to Jake’s room. When Wendy tried to talk to him, he didn’t say a word in response.

Wendy knew that Michael was irritated by the result.

Wendy then caught up with Michael and said, "Stop being so angry, Michael. You saw it with your own eyes that I ate every meal on time, but I just couldn’t fall asleep, and it’s out of my control."

Michael still didn’t say anything in response.

Wendy didn’t know what to say anymore.

"Ah!" Wendy suddenly burst out screaming.
