Chapter 658: I Am Just Joking

It took them around three hours to finally reach Dellon.

Christian’s assistant opened the helicopter door as soon as it had completely landed.

Christian walked to Wendy and assisted her as she got off. He said, "We’re here, Wendy."

The second Christian touched her skin, Wendy recoiled and immediately held Zen’s arms. She smiled vaguely and said, "I’ll help Zen get out first. Her foot is injured, and she needs someone to support her."

Christian’s hand froze. Then, he said yes and nodded.

Christian then got off of the helicopter.

As for Wendy, she alighted with Zen.

The only person left besides them was Christian’s assistant.

It was already nighttime in Dellon, and Wendy had a hard time seeing her surroundings.

She rubbed her eyes, raised her head, and looked around again.

Under the dim lights, she could see many trees around them.

’Are we in a forest or something?’ she thought.

However, before she could clear her mind, she heard Christian said, "Quick, follow me!"

Hearing Christian urge her, she tried to slow down as she remembered the pilot telling Christian that their helicopter had been located. She decided to stall him on purpose so that Michael’s people had a higher chance of catching up with them.

As she thought of that plan, she let go of Zen, tripped on purpose. "Ah!"

Christian immediately turned around after hearing that. He then saw Wendy on the ground.

Without hesitation, he strode toward her and asked worriedly, "What happened? Are you okay?"

"I might’ve twisted my ankle. It hurts! It hurts so bad!" Wendy said with anguish.

It was too dark around, and Christian couldn’t see clearly whether Wendy had really hurt herself or not.

He pursed his lips, squatted down, and tried to carry Wendy.

"I might as well just walk it off. I think I can walk out of here slowly by myself," Wendy said as she didn’t want Christian to carry her.

Christian then looked at his assistant after hearing what Wendy had said. He asked, "Have you pressed the button?"

The assistant replied, "Only less than 20 seconds left."

Wendy didn’t understand what they were talking about, but Christian then picked her up and started to run away from the helicopter.

"What happened, Christian? Is there something wrong?" Wendy didn’t have time to react as Christian was moving fast.

"You’ll know very soon."

Christian didn’t have time to explain to her.

He got as far away from the helicopter as possible, and his assistant was running behind them.

Zen realized that something terrifying would happen as she saw them all running away, so she tried to follow them. Unfortunately, her injured foot prevented her from catching up.

Time was up.

Suddenly, they heard an explosion from where the helicopter was.

Wendy was shocked. Then, she turned around and found out that the helicopter had been blown up into pieces.

The light of the blazing fire shone in her eyes. At some point, she found it hard to breathe.

"The helicopter... It exploded..." Wendy immediately thought of Zen who was far behind. She got out of Christian’s arms and started to run back, yelling, "Zen! Are you still there, Zen?"

She couldn’t see where Zen was through the fire.

...

Wendy tried to search for Zen.

She wasn’t sure if Zen got caught in the explosion as Zen couldn’t catch up with them.

A thought popped into her head, and she trembled.

"No, no way. She must be somewhere safe," she tried to calm herself down.

Christian followed Wendy after seeing how worried she was. "Wendy, slow down.

Wendy..."

However, she did not pay attention to him.

Tears welled in her eyes as she kept calling Zen’s name.

"Wendy..." Christian grabbed her hand.

She turned around, glared at Christian, and asked, "Did you do that?"

Christian froze for a second as he saw Wendy’s eyes, then he nodded.

"Why? What did you do that for?" Wendy couldn’t understand why hehad to blow up the helicopter. "Zen hasn’t got far enough from it yet. You should have waited until we were all at a safe distance. And besides, has that pilot got out of the helicopter yet?"

Wendy looked around, and their pilot was nowhere to be found.

"Do you want to hear the truth?" Christian wanted to see how Wendy would react.

Wendy stepped back. She would never imagine Christian doing something like that.

Her mind was filled with worry for Zen and horror from Christian.

"You ... Are you afraid of me?" Christian was upset at how Wendy was behaving.

He thought that Wendy had treated him as her husband, but it turned out that she went along with it because she was scared of him.

"Let me tell you why I blew up the helicopter," Christian started to explain. "Because our helicopter has been located by Michael, which means they would find us in no time if I didn’t do that.

"As for why I blew it up right after we landed, it was because of how fast the helicopter was flying, which meant there would be some delay on their part as they tracked us. If I didn’t blow it up right away, they would be able to know exactly where we landed."

Christian then paused briefly and continued, "As for the pilot, I didn’t plan to keep him alive anyway. I don’t want to leave any chance for Michael to interrogate him and figure out where we are. Besides, he was just a pilot, and his job was done after he helped us get here."

Wendy tried to back away from Christian upon hearing his explanation. Christian then held her wrist tightly upon seeing her moving away from him.

She had already learned that Christian was a drug lord, but she just didn’t expect him to be so ruthless.

"Is that what you think of me as well? You didn’t intend to keep me alive either, did you?" Suddenly, they heard Zen’s voice.

"Zen?" Wendy turned around.

Zen was struggling to walk toward her.

"Are you okay, Zen? Are you injured?" Wendy asked, looking at her worriedly.

"I’m okay," Zen assured her friend while she pursed her lips at Christian.

"You haven’t answered my question, Mr. Lucas," Zen asked Christian again. "Did you think that I was going to be a burden to you?"

Zen was right as that was exactly what Christian had thought of her. If it weren’t for Wendy, Christian would have got rid of her.

He saw disgust and fright in Wendy’s and Zen’s eyes.

He realized that he had almost told Wendy the truth.

Wendy hadn’t got her memories back yet, so it would be better for him to keep lying to her.

...

Christian looked very serious, but in the next moment, he laughed.

Seeing that Christian was laughing, Wendy and Zen looked at each other, both very confused.

"Don’t you believe what I just said?" Christian sounded quite relieved. "The plane had to be exploded because it had been located. If it remained here, Michael would come to find us very soon.

"As for the pilot, he did not come together with us. The target would become obvious if there were too many people.

"The plane is gone, and we do not need any pilot. So I let him go; in this case, he is also safer."

Christian turned around and looked at Zen, then continued, "As for what you just said - if I really treated you as a burden, I would not take you with me on the jet.

Since I took you, of course, I do not regard you as a burden.

"We were a certain distance away from the jet. I know very well that the explosion range of the jet is not very big, so we were already out of the danger zone.

"I carried Wendy because I am her husband. So, it is natural that I carry her.

"I did not want you to die, and I knew that you were already in the safe zone.

"In addition, if I did not carry Wendy and walked away, it would be terrible if she hurt her ankle. After all, she is pregnant now."

Christian’s explanation seemed to be perfect.

Even the tone in which he spoke and the look on his face was both very serious.

Wendy and Zen looked at each other once again.

Christian saw that neither of them said anything. He sighed and said resignedly, "I am just joking; are you scared?"

Christian walked forward and tried to hold Wendy’s hand, but she avoided it.

Christian looked a little upset but soon resumed his smile. "Wendy, I am really just joking with you; please do not get angry.

"I am not a big drug dealer. How is it possible that I kill anyone?

"Not to mention that Zen is your friend. If something bad happens to her, you must be very sad.

"If you are sad, I will be heartbroken.

"In addition, if I really wanted to kill Zen, I would not need to wait until now, isn’t it?"

"Mr. Lucas is indeed a successful businessman," Zen sneered. "You are so eloquent!"

Zen sounded furious and suspicious.

Wendy looked down slightly and looked cold.

Zen did not know who Christian was yet, but Wendy already knew.

He was a big drug dealer. He must have killed a great number of people.

Instead of what he said just now, she would rather believe what he had said previously.

In other words, Christian would kill those who were useless to him without any hesitation.

If Zen irritated Christian at this time, or let Christian find out that they had already suspected him, then Zen might also be killed.

She was now pregnant, and Zen was injured.

It was almost impossible for them to escape Christian.

Wendy could not allow anything else to happen to Zen.

Now, she could only calm Christian down and think of other ideas later.

After taking a deep breath, Wendy hid the discontentment and anger on her facShe smiled and held Zen’s hand proactively, and said, "Zen, did you really get angry? Christian was just joking with us."

"Wendy, did you think that he was... " Before Zen finished talking, Wendy interrupted her, "I was almost terrified by Christian as well, but I believe that Christian is unlikely to do such things."
