Chapter 656: Where Are We Heading?
While inside the cubicle, Wendy heard someone entered the bathroom.
Wendy came out of the cubicle, walked toward the woman, and said, "Hello there, Madam. I forgot to bring my phone with me. Would you mind if I borrow your phone for a minute or two?"
The woman looked at Wendy for a short moment and thought that Wendy was a pretty woman and seemed to be harmless, so she handed her phone to Wendy.
Wendy took the phone without hesitation and thanked the woman.
She tapped the search engine app and typed in ’Michael Lucas’.
She had previously suspected that the information she found on her phone about Michael was made up.
Christian was the one who gave her and Zen their cell phones, so it would be easy for Christian to hack their phones.
Soon, information about Michael appeared: "Michael Lucas, 34 years old, CEO and chairman of MC Enterprise in Zeilheim City. He is the richest person in Lake City and a successful entrepreneur. He managed to increase MC Enterprise’s profits in a few years and turn it into the largest company in Lake City."
Wendy’s heart raced after reading the information.
Just as she expected, it was completely different from what she had read on her phone, which meant that Christian did something to keep her from finding out the truth.
She continued to scroll down and skimmed through other information about Michael.
Although she had only skimmed through the articles, she didn’t find one that said that Michael was a drug lord.
Suddenly, she stopped scrolling when she saw the word ’partner’.
One article specified, "Michael Lucas has been married for years. His wife, Wendy Stewart, is a world-renowned fashion designer, with whom he shares twins."
"Wife? Wendy Stewart? I’m actually Michael’s wife?" Wendy wondered aloud.
Wendy’s hand started to shake as she looked at Michael’s photo attached to the article.
She closed her eyes. A lot of things popped into her head.
She still wasn’t able to recall anything about Michael yet, but she certainly felt something in her heart when she read that she was his wife.
On the contrary, Wendy didn’t feel anything when Christian told her that she was his wife. Upon reading that Michael was her real husband, she hoped that it was true.
She tried to remember Michael’s face. It didn’t matter that she wasn’t able to recall anything about him yet. She only had to remember that face, and she could try retrieving memories later.
She then closed the window about Michael and typed in ’Christian Lucas’ on the search box.
Soon, an article about Christian popped up. It said, "Christian Lucas34 years old, CEO of DR Group, Michael Lucas’s half-brother, is the most prolific drug lord in Rheinsville City and Interpol’s most wanted..."
It turned out that Christian was the drug lord who was trying to get away.
"Miss, are you okay?" the woman asked worriedly as Wendy couldn’t stop shivering.
Wendy tried to calm herself down, raised her head, and looked at the woman in front of her. She shook her head, handed back her phone, and said, "Thank you again."
"You’re welcome..."
Seeing that Wendy was anxious, the woman offered, "Do you want me to call your friend or the waiter?"
"It’s okay. I’m fine. Thank you," Wendy said, shaking her head.
The woman didn’t say anything else and walked into one of the cubicles with her phone. Then, Wendy walked into one as well.
...
Although Wendy had tried to prepare herself for the truth, she was still shocked when she read the information about Michael and Christian.
All the secrets that Christian tried to hide had been uncovered.
The real drug lord was Christian, and Michael was her husband.
She was right after all... that Christian kidnapped her. As for her memories, she was certain that Christian did something to make her forget them.
’What should I do now? How am I going to get Michael to find me?’ she thought.
She knew that she couldn’t stall any longer. Also, she didn’t know Michael’s number.
The contact number she found online was of MC Enterprise instead of Michael’s personal number.
She couldn’t guarantee that someone would pick up if she called. Even if someone did, they would be suspicious of her.
"Feedback form!"
Wendy started to look around as she thought of it. She was sure that she could find one in the bathroom.
As expected, she saw a folder attached to the wall, and it was filled with forms.
She took one and grab a pen. After thinking for a while, she quickly drew a map on the back of the form.
She didn’t know where Christian lived as they went out of his house in his car.
However, since she had been suspicious of Christian, she had been paying attention to the buildings and streets while she was in the car.
After she drew the map, she wrote the names of some of the places she had seen, such as gas stations and convenience stores.
She then put the feedback form back into the folder and walked into a cubicle again.
As for Christian, he had already arranged everything. Zen also got into the car.
He was waiting for Wendy to come out.
He then asked a waitress, "Go to the bathroom and find someone called Wendy Stewart. Tell her to come out as soon as possible and that her husband is waiting for her."
The waitress nodded and left immediately.
"Hello? Is Wendy Stewart in here?" the waitress walked into the bathroom and asked.
Wendy heard the waitress’s voice and realized that it was Christian who sent her in.
"Yes, I am," Wendy replied.
"Your husband is waiting for you, Ms. Stewart. He’s asking you to come out as soon as possible," the waitress said.
"Sure."
However, Wendy had no intention of coming out.
The waitress got back to Christian to relay Wendy’s response.
Christian waited for another while, yet Wendy had not returned.
A few more minutes passed, and Christian got more anxious.
He then decided to go check on Wendy himself.
"Wendy..." Christian stood at the door of the women’s bathroom and called out.
" This is the women’s bathroom. The men’s bathroom is that way," a woman said when she saw Christian lurking. She was irritated to see a man at the women’s bathroom’s door.
However, Christian couldn’t care less. He walked into the bathroom and called out again, "Are you in there, Wendy?"
"I am! I am coming out now!" Wendy didn’t expect Christian to actually walk into the women’s bathroom.
Wendy figured that she had no choice but to leave with Christian.
"What the hell is wrong with you? This is the women’s bathroom! Leave now or I’ll call the manager!" the woman threatened.
Christian ignored the woman.
Wendy then said, "Christian, please, just leave first. I’m joining you very soon."
As for Christian, it was hard for him to believe what Wendy had said as this was the third time that he heard it.
However, Christian had no choice but to leave as he didn’t want to cause any trouble.
...
Christian paced back and forth outside the bathroom while keeping an eye on the door.
Suddenly, he heard his assistant spoke from his earphones, "Mr. Lucas, we don’t have much time. Evan’s people are already here. There aren’t that many of them yet, so I can hold them off, but I’m sure more of them will come."
"Got it," Christian said, trying to sound calm.
Christian looked at the women’s bathroom again.
Just as he was about to go in and knock on every cubicle’s door to find Wendy, he saw her walking out.
She had her hands on her belly and said with a pale face, "Sorry, Christian. I didn’t expect my stomach to be so weak that I would have diarrhea now."
Christian was in an awful mood, but after hearing Wendy apologize, he suppressed his anger.
He held Wendy’s hand and strode out of the restaurant. He asked worriedly, "Are you feeling better?"
"I still feel a bit sick, but better than before. I think I can make it back," Wendy said.
She knew that Christian was in a hurry. He would’ve walked into the bathroom if she didn’t come out.
She couldn’t think of a better way to escape him, so she had to play along first.
After all, she was pregnant and Zen was of little help, so they couldn’t flee anywhere even if they wanted.
"Then please try to hold it off. We must get out of here now." Christian got into the car with Wendy in no time.
Wendy saw Zen in the car. Zen asked immediately, "Are you okay?"
Wendy nodded, looked at Christian who was sitting on the front seat, and said, "Yes, I’m good."
Christian then said to the driver, "Head to the heliport in the south."
Wendy’s heart almost skipped a beat when she heard Christian say that. She asked, "Aren’t we going back?"
She thought that Christian would first go home; hence, the road map she drew lead there.
"No, we can’t as we don’t have time anymore. We need to leave the country now," Christian simply said.
"Leaving the country now? Where are we heading then?" Wendy tried to control her emotions so that she could sound as normal as possible. Otherwise, Christian might get suspicious of her.
"He-heading..." Christian stuttered and took a deep breath.
He didn’t know where he should go to either.
He thought that he had enough time to stay until tomorrow, so there were a lot of things that he hadn’t transferred yet, including his assets and clients.
However, he didn’t have time for that anymore. After all, once Evan’s men captured him, he would be screwed forever.
"Let’s just head to the heliport first, then we’ll decide," Christian said.
Wendy pursed her lips and started to think of a plan.
Once they left Rheinsville City, it would be much harder for Michael to pin them down.
After a while, Wendy asked him, "Then can we at least go back and pack some of our stuff first? Like our passport and marriage certificate..."
"No need. I’ll ask one of my guys to deal with them," Christian said. "The most important thing now is to get out of here."
Wendy sighed. She could not go against Christian at the moment or he would think she was up to something.
She did have her cell phone with her, but Christian gave it to her. He could be spying on her. Besides, she didn’t know Michael’s phone number.
