Chapter 498: Raised This Son For Nothing
Winnie seemed to have become more delirious recently. Michael’s grandmother knew that she did not like Wendy. When Wendy had previously come to the house, she had taken a knife and started to attack Wendy. Eventually, she stabbed Michael instead.
Today, Michael’s grandmother had ordered someone to look after her since early morning and not let her run around. However, it was not easy to look after someone mad. She was making a big fuss and smashed things in the room. As the door opened when the servant delivered the food to her, she seized the opportunity and dashed out from the room.
She even shouted at the servant behind her as she ran, "Come and chase me... If you can catch me, I will... I will..." Winnie said it for quite a while, but she could not finish her sentence at all.
Eventually, she ran to the backyard.
The moment she saw Michael’s grandmother and Wendy, her eyes darkened instantly.
Winnie then gazed at Michael as she approached him. She stood in front of Michael and raised her hand intending to give Michael a tight slap. However, Michael dodged it.
Before he could say anything, Winnie started to yell at him, "Anthony Lucas! You do know how to come back, don’t you? Aren’t you having a birthday celebration with that sl*t? You even bought her a diamond ring! I have never received such a big and sparkling diamond from you before! Now tell me, where is that sl*t?"
Winnie looked around in her vicinity as if she was searching for the sl*t she just mentioned. She then set her eyes on Wendy. She walked towards Wendy who immediately took a few steps back.
Michael was so afraid that Winnie would hurt Wendy again that he grabbed Winnie’s hand instantly, "Mother, I am Michael. I am not Anthony."
Though, how was it possible for a madwoman to listen to what others said?
In her eyes, Wendy was that b*tchy sl*t who stole her husband.
She tried to shake off his hand but to no avail. Therefore, she yelled at Wendy, "You sl*t! How dare you come to the Lucas Residence? You... You..." Suddenly, Winnie saw the two kids, Leah and Jake. Her eyes darkened instantly, "You even brought along your two little b*stards?"
As soon as she finished her words, she was confused. Then, she mumbled softly, "Strange! Don’t you have only one child? You only have a boy named Christian Lucas. Don’t you? Who is this girl then? Did you bear another child behind my back again?"
Speaking of this, Winnie grew angry again. She then started to hit and kick Michael, "Anthony, you and that sl*t, Lily, have another girl? How could you do this to me?
You are so heartless! Why did you bring them back? Are you thinking of acknowledging them as part of the Lucas family?"
Winnie then turned around to look at Micheal’s grandmother, "Mother, don’t tell me that you agree to it? Why are you sitting with them and chit-chatting happily? Don’t you want me as your daughter-in-law anymore? Tell me, Mother. Tell me..." Michael’s grandmother did not know how to deal with her at all.
Leah hid behind Wendy and popped her little head out.
She had never encountered such a situation before in her life. At that moment, she was terrified.
Jake held tightly onto Leah’s hand and stood in front of her too.
Fortunately, the bodyguards came in time.
Michael’s grandmother was so helpless that she instructed the guards, "Lock her away. Get someone to look after her 24 hours and don’t be so soft-hearted towards her. Don’t ever let her escape from her room again!"
"Yes, Madam," said the bodyguards as they stepped forth to grab Winnie’s arms.
However, Winnie struggled vigorously and tried hard to break free from their capture.
If the bodyguards did not grab her tight enough, Winnie would be able to free herself. However, if they used too much strength on her, they would hurt her for sure.
After all, she was still Mrs. Lucas, the lawfully wedded wife to Anthony Lucas.
They too were very helpless.
...
"Just try not to break her limbs," said Michael’s grandmother as she sighed.
The bodyguards were much bolder now after hearing her words. They approached Winnie and grabbed her with their strong arms. No matter how much she struggled, she could not break free at all.
After that, they took her away as she yelled wildly all the way. "Anthony Lucas, you b*stard! How could you do this to me! Mother, please don’t agree to this. I am your only daughter-in-law!
"Don’t ever let me see you again, Anthony! Or else, you both will die a horrible death! Let me go! Do you know who I am? I am Mrs. Lucas. How dare you lay a finger on me!"
"Help! Help!"
...
Wendy deeply frowned upon hearing Winnie’s voice become softer and softer.
Michael walked towards Wendy as he held her hand tightly and asked anxiously, "Are you okay?"
Wendy nodded her head.
Winnie had not managed to get close to her.
"Daddy, why was grandmother so fierce just now?" asked Leah. In fact, she knew who Winnie was. Before Winnie fell into her current state, Leah had met her in the past. She then asked again, "What did she say just now? I am so confused. Why does she keep calling you Anthony? Who is Anthony?"
Indeed, Leah had been in shock just now and finally breathed a sigh of relief when Winnie was taken away.
Michael carried her and put her on his lap as he caressed her head. He tried to calm her down and said, "Grandmother is sick. That’s why she is acting differently than all of us."
"Can she be cured? So that she could be the same as us again?" said Leah innocently as she blinked her big eyes.
Michael nodded his head with a hum.
If Winnie’s illness was that easy to cure, she would have recovered long ago.
"Mother’s illness seems to be getting worst nowadays," said Wendy worriedly, "In the past, she was still able to recognize others. However, she seems to be unable to recognize any one of us anymore."
She even mistook her own son for Anthony and Wendy for Lily Yates.
It seemed that her illness was indeed quite serious.
Michael’s grandmother then sighed, "It was Lily’s birthday a few days ago. Anthony celebrated her birthday and even bought her a big diamond ring. As for Lily, she called Winnie on purpose to brag about it. Winnie was so agitated that it worsened her condition."
"That’s why she mentioned a birthday celebration and diamond ring just now," Wendy could not help but sigh as she looked in the direction where Winnie was taken away.
Winnie was once a noble lady too. After she married Anthony, she helped him with his career and took good care of the family. However, this was what she had ended up with eventually.
Wendy could not help but gaze at Michael next to her.
Michael seemed to be able to read Wendy’s mind, so he said, "Rest assured. I will not follow my father’s path no matter what. Ever since I was young, I hated my father for being such an irresponsible womanizer. If not for him having other women, I will not be in a fight with Christian. Of course, Christian would not exist in this world without him."
"For that son, there really is nothing much I can do. Nowadays, he does not even want to come home anymore," Michael’s grandmother sighed helplessly, "I raised that son for nothing."
"I will inform uncles and auntie to visit you more often," said Michael, "I will bring the two kids together with Wendy to visit you more often too."
Wendy could roughly remember that Michael had two uncles and one auntie, even though they seldom met each other.
...
Wendy married into the Lucas family six years ago. At that time, most of the members of the family hated her except for Michael’s grandmother.
Other than the necessary family banquet, she would not attend any other activities organized by the family.
Six years later, she came back as Corrine Swift. She seldom returned to the Lucas family then too. Even if she did, she would only visit Michael’s grandmother.
Therefore, she was not at all familiar with any other relatives of the Lucas family.
She only knew that Michael had two uncles and one auntie. As for the rest of his relatives and friends, she knew nothing at all.
"Leah and Jake will come over to play with you more often. Is that okay with you, great-grandmother?" said Leah as she jumped off Michael’s lap and walked towards her great-grandmother and held onto her wrinkled hands.
"Of course I am okay with it," said her great-grandmother happily. She was so delighted as she held onto Leah’s tiny hands.
They spent the whole afternoon in the backyard chit-chatting and enjoying the sun as a family.
Michael’s grandmother had wanted to see such a happy time together with her family. She had been looking forward to this day for such a long time.
In the evening, Michael and Wendy decided to stay back for the night upon his grandmother’s request. They were not leaving tonight.
His grandmother had long instructed the servants in the house to tidy up all the guest rooms for them before they had agreed to it.
After dinner, Wendy accompanied Michael’s grandmother to take a stroll in the garden.
The night breeze blew onto their faces while they were strolling. The atmosphere was so comfortable. Michael’s grandmother was so happy the whole day that she kept smiling widely.
Soon, the day had passed.
It was already getting late, but Michael’s grandmother could not bear to send them to bed yet, she said reluctantly, "Well, it’s getting late. You all sleep early then."
"See you tomorrow morning, great-grandmother," said Leah lovingly as she waved her hand.
"Good night, great-grandmother," greeted Jake obediently too.
"Good night, sweeties," said Michael’s grandmother as she watched them go upstairs holding onto her grasp.
Jake and Leah had their own bedrooms. The servants then took them to wash up in the bathroom before sending them to bed.
After Wendy washed up, she lay on the bed staring at the ceiling. She looked so gentle at that moment.
Michael threw himself onto the bed and embraced Wendy in his arms when he came out from the bathroom. He then called out her name gently with a cheeky smile on his face, "Honey..."
"What are you doing?" Wendy ducked away instantly. She was so scared that she rolled to the end of the bed and said softly, "Have you forgotten that we are at the old manor?"
Michael grabbed Wendy’s feet and pulled her towards him.
He placed his arms around Wendy’s waist and started to move his hands all over her body.
"Michael!" said Wendy seriously, her face darkened, "I am going to repeat one more time. We are at the old manor, don’t fool around."
"The manor is so big. What is there to be afraid of?" smiled Michael, "Besides, do you doubt how soundproof the house is? Anyway, I have locked the door. Rest assured that nobody will hear anything."
"But..." Wendy was about to say something, but somehow she was unable to finish her words.
The bright round moon was so beautiful outside. However, it seemed to slowly hide behind the clouds as if it was trying to avoid seeing an embarrassing scene.
The next day, Wendy woke up early in the morning.
She set the alarm clock in advance. She doubted that she would be able to wake up early otherwise.
Michael was awakened by the alarm clock as well. He stretched his long arm and placed it on Wendy’s waist. He intended to ask her to sleep in, "What time is it now?"
"Six-thirty in the morning," said Wendy.
"So early?" Michael was still not fully awake yet. He then mumbled, "Come on, let’s sleep a little longer."
"You may continue to sleep. I am up to prepare breakfast for grandmother," said Wendy as she broke free from Michael’s embrace. Then, she said, "I have never prepared breakfast for grandmother before. By the way, what do you want to eat? I can prepare something for you at the same time too."
