Chapter 465: You Wouldn’t Be So Petty

Todd is a little annoyed by the noises from the reporters.

He tried to walk out from it, but he couldn’t move at all.

The reporters surrounded him in a circle.

Michael’s bodyguards once again separated him from the reporters.

Todd tiptoed to see what was going on on Wendy’s side but found that it was too crowded and unable to see anything.

"Mr. Lewis? Could you answer a few questions, please?"

"Mr. Lewis ..."

"Mr. Lewis ..."

Todd was annoyed, but he couldn’t move an inch.

Wendy breathed a sigh of relief after quickly leaving the entrance of HG Enterprise.

Wendy knew that she had finally got rid of the reporters when the noises were no longer coming from behind her.

She looked back at the reporters, who stopped by the bodyguards and said to Michael, "These reporters, they are so annoying. If you hadn’t brought so many bodyguards with you, we would probably be stuck down here today."

"Reporters are annoying in whatever country they are in." Michael reached out and put his arm around Wendy’s shoulders and said, "Let’s go."

"Well ..." Wendy was just about to turn around and walk with Michael when she suddenly remembered something.

One person seemed to be missing? Where’s Todd? Wendy stopped, frowned, and asked Michael: "Where’s Todd? I thought he was following us? Didn’t we agree to have dinner together?"

"He ..." Michael didn’t care less and replied half-heartedly, "Maybe he doesn’t want to eat with us anymore."

This statement by Michael obviously did not convince Wendy.

He was a little embarrassed and rephrased what he just said, "Maybe Mr. Lewis was busy at work and got a call from the company and went back to deal with an urgent matter."

Wendy’s face grew worse while Michael explaining.

Michael was a little afraid to look Wendy in the eyes.

"If Todd didn’t want to eat with us, he would have at least told us.

Busy with work? To the point that he just left without noticing us? A moment ago he just agreed to have a meal with us while he was busying."

Apparently, Wendy doesn’t believe Michael.

Michael coughed lightly.

He knew Wendy was smart and wasn’t so easily fooled.

Michael remained silent, and Wendy asked him solemnly, "What’s going on?"

"This ..." Michael, of course, could not tell the truth and said, "How do I know what’s going on, I’ve been here with you all this time, haven’t I?"

Michael took Wendy’s hand and spoke in a gentle tone, "If you don’t even know, how would I know?"

Wendy looked at Michael’s face and didn’t seem to see anything suspicious.

She simply turned her attention to the reporters.

Todd will definitely tell us before going off.

Then, most likely, he is still surrounded by that group of reporters.

With that in mind, Wendy headed over to reporters.

Michael was a little reluctant and sighed, but he had to follow.

"Todd?" Wendy saw the bodyguards stopped the reporters to where they are and she shouted loudly into the crowd of reporters looking for Todd.

Unfortunately, there were too many reporters and the noise was so loud that Wendy’s voice was submerged into the crowd.

Wendy had no choice but to go in, she told the bodyguards, "Let me in."

Bodyguards looked at Michael who standing behind Wendy.

Michael knew that Wendy will not leave without Todd.

He could only reluctantly signalled the bodyguards to let Wendy through. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

After the bodyguards cleared the way, some reporters saw Wendy and Michael, and came over and surrounded them.

"Ms. Swift, will you make up with Mr. Lucas?"

"Who do you love, Mr. Lucas or Mr. Lewis?"

"Ms. Swift, will you stay in Rheinsville City or will you go back to Lake City with Mr.

Lucas?"

...

Wendy waved her hand in annoyance, trying to shoo the reporter away.

Unfortunately, her lack of strength can’t drive anyone away.

Michael was afraid that Wendy would be hurt, and he had his bodyguards pull the reporters away.

For Todd, however, he was rescued along with it.

Soon, the reporter was once again blocked by the bodyguards.

Todd was relieved to see that he was no longer surrounded by reporters.

"Corrine ...," Todd was the first to walk up to Wendy and asked her, "Are you okay?"

"I’m fine," replied Wendy.

Wendy could probably guess what was going on and turned her head to look askance at Michael.

Michael did not say anything.

"It’s good that you’re okay," said Todd in relief.

Todd looked at the reporters and he took Wendy’s hand and said, "Come on, let’s grab some food."

Michael’s face instantly sank when he saw Todd taking Wendy’s hand.

Michael stepped forward and heaved Todd’s hand away immediately.

Michael was about to say something when Todd realized that he had just acted inappropriately and immediately apologized, "Sorry, I was just in a hurry and was afraid Corrine would be surrounded by reporters once again if she walk slow, so I ..."

"I think you’re doing it on purpose!" Michael said angrily.

"I already said that I didn’t mean it, and Mr. Lucas didn’t believe me," Todd spoke faintly.

Watching them get into another fight, Wendy sighed and said, "Well that’s enough, come on, let’s eat! Everyone stop talking and be quiet! Anyone who talks again, I’ll flip out." Wendy’s words were intimidating to a certain degree.

Both Todd and Michael went silent.

Except for Michael’s gaze, staring at Todd, felt like he wanted to eat him alive.

Then, deliberately, he held Wendy’s hand in front of Todd.

As if that wasn’t enough, Michael and Wendy interlocked their fingers together.

Furthermore, Michael gave Todd a provocative yet satisfying look.

Wendy was amused by the childish behavior of Michael.

Luckily they didn’t argue anymore, and Wendy didn’t pursue on.

When they got into Todd’s car, Todd was still in charge of driving, and Wendy and Michael sat in the back seat.

They soon arrived at the restaurant.

It is a Chinese restaurant, which is indeed newly opened.

Wendy has lived in Rheinsville City for several years, but she does prefer Chinese food.

Todd handled the ordering tablet to Wendy and asked her to order.

Wendy ordered some of her favorite food.

Wendy knew exactly what Michael’s tastes were, so she helped Michael order two dishes as well.

After ordering, Wendy handed the menu to Todd, "Order what you like."

Michael saw that Wendy ordered dishes that he loved, and immediately smiled and said, "Wendy, you still remember what I love to eat.

I thought you had forgotten about it long ago."

In addition to being moved, Michael said this, on purpose, to Todd.

Todd was looking down at the menu as if he hadn’t heard Michael’s words.

After he ordered a few dishes, his eyes glanced at the dish in front of him which Wendy ordered.

Todd knew the dishes that Wendy loved to eat as well.

The other two dishes were clearly not Wendy’s favorite.

With that in mind, Todd ran his fingers gently on the tablet.

Soon, there were two dishes that he deleted.

After quickly doing this, Todd handed the order tablet to the waiter on the side, "We’re a little hungry, please serve quickly, thank you." said Todd.

"Yes, please wait a moment." The waiter took the tablet, nodded, and then went out.

...

Wendy and Michael didn’t notice what Todd had just done. Michael had also deliberately held Wendy’s hand every now and then to emphasize his relationship with Wendy to Todd. Todd pretended not to notice.

It would take some time for the food to be served, so Todd started a conversation, "Corrine, what’s next for you?"

"There’s only one plan, and that is to follow me back to Lake City," said Michael.

Todd didn’t bother with Michael’s answer. He turned to Wendy and asked again, "Corrine..."

"Things are pretty much taken care of here in Rheinsville City," said Wendy.

"Timothy’s safe is nowhere to be found, so I guess I’ll have to go back to Lake City.

To bring down Christian, it looks like the only way to do so is to start with Timothy."

"You heard it yourself. My wife is coming home with me," Michael replied in a smug tone was clearly mocking Todd for having zero chance to be with Wendy.

Wendy heard Michael’s remark and turned her head to give him a blank stare.

Wendy was tempted to tell him to shut up.

"So when do you plan to leave?" Todd asked.

"We’ll leave tomorrow," Michael answered again. "If we could, we’d have left by today."

Todd looked at Michael and said in an annoyed tone, "Mr. Lucas, do you understand that it’s rude to interrupt when others are talking?"

"Of course I do," Michael nodded. "But Mr. Lewis, what did you say?

Others? What do you mean by ’others’? How can my wife be treated as an ’other’?

You’re talking to my wife, do I count as an ’other’ when I answer?"

Wendy couldn’t tolerate Michael’s behavior. She turned and look at Michael, the dissatisfaction in her tone apparent, "Michael, can you please behave yourself?"

"I..." Michael was a little aggravated and replied in a low voice, "Am I misbehaving?"

"Will you shut up for a minute? Don’t say anything unless you’re being asked, okay?"

said Wendy.

Reluctantly, Michael nodded his head in agreement.

Wendy saw that Michael was finally quiet, so she answered Todd’s question, "If there’s nothing going on, we’ll be leaving in a day or two."

"You have just been discharged from the hospital, you are not yet fully recovered, so it’s better to stay for a few more days." Todd was worried about Wendy’s health, "Wait a few days for your health to improve before you go. The flight will take more than ten hours. I’m afraid your body can’t take it."

"I will be careful," Wendy smiled and said. "Don’t worry about it."

"Then let me know before you go, and I’ll see you off." Todd said "you" instead of "both of you".

Todd was afraid that Wendy might misunderstand and quickly explained, "After all, we are friends. We’ve no idea when we will meet again."

"You are busy, you do not need to send us off," replied Wendy. She lowered her eyelids slightly. She cared about how Michael would feel. Fearing that Michael would be upset, she said, "We’ll just go by ourselves."

"Don’t treat me like a stranger." Todd sounded sad. "Aren’t we friends even though you’re going back to Lake City?"

"How is that possible..." Before Wendy could finish her sentence, Todd immediately said, "So, why are you treating me like a stranger?"

Michael listened to the two of them chatting, his gaze dead set on Todd.

If looks could kill, Todd would be dead a thousand times over.

"We’ll see," Wendy replied as she saw that the waiter was serving their food. She quickly changed the subject, "Let’s eat, I’m hungry."

....

When the food was served, Michael and Todd both served Wendy at the same time.

"Honey, this is your favorite, have some more," Michael smiled and spoke gently.

He lifted his head, gazed at Todd, and then deliberately picked out the dish that Todd just gave to Wendy. He had wanted to throw it out, but he was afraid that Wendy would think he was too much. So Michael simply placed the food in an empty bowl and passed it to Todd, "Mr. Lewis, my wife doesn’t really like this. You can have it."

Todd knew very well what Wendy liked. But when he saw that Wendy didn’t say a word, he too, stopped himself from responding. He was afraid that Wendy would be upset with him.

Wendy kicked Michael under the table as a warning for him to behave himself. The atmosphere at the table turned quiet and awkward. As the waitress served the last dish, she said, "All the food has been served, please enjoy your meal." She then turned around to leave.

Michael did not see what he had ordered and frowned.

"Wait a minute..." Michael asked, "how is this ’all’? There are two more dishes."

The waitress paused and turned around. She apologized before saying, "Just a moment while I double-check the order."

She took out the tablet and checked carefully. She then said with a smile, "Sir, everything has been served. You could have another look at the menu if you wish to add anything else?" She then passed him the tablet.

Michael was angry. He clearly saw that Wendy had ordered two of his favorite dishes. Michael took over the tablet and checked personally. Indeed, his orders weren’t on the order list. Michael looked up and stared at Todd.

He chuckled and questioned Todd, "Mr. Lewis, if I remember correctly, you are the last to place your order.

You wouldn’t be so petty as to delete my orders, would you?"

Wendy looked at the table. Indeed, the two dishes she had ordered for Michael were not served. Wendy couldn’t help looking at Todd. It’s reasonable to assume that Todd wouldn’t have to do this. It was too petty.

"What are you saying, Mr. Lucas? I may not be as rich as you are, but I can afford to pay for a meal," Todd said without any remorse. "Maybe something is wrong with their ordering system."

"Our system hardly has any problems," the waitress subconsciously spoke out of her mind. She immediately regretted what she just said but it was too late.

"Mr. Lewis, it’s alright if you want to be petty, but why push the blame to the system?" Michael deliberately mocked him.

Todd was a little embarrassed and glanced at the waitress disapprovingly before saying, "Perhaps I deleted it by mistake, or one of their staff deleted it by mistake."In fact, Todd simply didn’t want Michael to have his food. He even wished that Michael didn’t join them in the first place.

"We will not change our customer’s order," the waitress with a quick tongue did it once again.
