Chapter 450: Grow A Pair Of Wings

Wendy then started to cry as she muttered to herself, "Back then, Todd said the exact same thing. He told me he loved me and that he would do so for the rest of his life.

"He said that the fact that I am a mother of two children doesn’t matter. He only cares about me.

"However, he changed.

"No, he might not have changed. He might have been using me all along.

"Because... because he said that I am no longer the chief designer of HG Enterprise.

"He told me that I am nothing the moment the company went bankrupt.

"He even said that I am a boring person, that I am not fit to be a wife.

"He also said that Michael made the right choice of divorcing me."

If Wendy were to say these words to Clement while she was sober, he would definitely doubt her.

After all, Wendy was very cautious around him when she was sober the day before.

Therefore, it would be easier for Wendy to lure Clement into her trap by acting drunk.

"Am I really that boring?" Wendy asked as she stared at him as if she was waiting for an answer. "I can be interesting too. He was the one who asked me to be myself. He asked me not to change anything about myself and told me that he liked me for who I am. But he lied to me! That a**h*le lied to me!"

Wendy then began to wail. Clement passed her a tissue.

She took the tissue and wiped her tears. She then went on, "Besides Todd, there is also my boss. Right, my boss! You know who my boss is, right? He is Timothy Woods. Do you know him?"

Wendy purposely asked Clement about him.

When she saw Clement nodding, she continued, "He suspects me of colluding with Michael to cause HG Enterprise go bankrupt."

"So did you really collude with Michael?" Clement asked as he was HG Enterprise’s shareholder.

He was greatly affected by what happened to HG Enterprise recently.

He wasn’t the same as Michael. He had never whitewashed himself.

Therefore, he had always been HG Enterprise’s quiet shareholder.

When Michael suggested to whitewash HG Enterprise and leave the company, Clement was furious.

Clement didn’t look into HG Enterprise’s incident previously because someone was even more anxious than him.

Besides, his focus wasn’t on HG Enterprise.

"Are you suspecting me too?" Wendy looked aggrieved. She cried softly, "Are you all suspecting me?"

"I am just asking," Clement said simply.

"Michael and I had divorced a long time ago. Back then, I returned to Lake City just to seek my revenge on him. Yes, my heart was softened. I can’t let him die because of my two children. However, I have always hated him. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be suffering so much."

Wendy looked as if she meant every word she said. "He used to torture me back then. He didn’t even feed me well.

"When I was pregnant, he even brought me to the hospital to get an abortion.

"If it weren’t for our luck, my children and I would have been dead.

"Tell me, do you think I will collude with such a man?

"I wished him death more than anyone else.

"If it wasn’t for my children, I would have died with him. After all, even if I wanted to get back together with him, he already has a fiance...

"His fiance is even a few months pregnant.

"What do I get for colluding with him to take down HG Enterprise?

"Will I do all these just so that they can have a nice life?

"I will never do that. In fact, I wish that he and Yonina never have a good ending."

...

What Wendy just said must not be verified.

After all, she even sent both her children to Lake City.

If Clement were to carry out an investigation, he would find many doubts in what she said.

That was why Wendy had to plan beforehand.

She wanted to seduce Clement, spike his drinks, then kidnap him.

Once she gained control of him, she would force Clement to reveal HG Enterprise’s affiliation with mobs. She wanted him to expose Christian’s affiliation with them.

However, if things were to drag too long, Clement would definitely have time to investigate Wendy.

The more he investigated, the easier her scheme would be exposed.

Once he had started to develop an interest in her, it would be too late for him to carry out an investigation.

Wendy was crying miserably. Clement couldn’t sense anything weird from her expression.

Wendy then took this opportunity to add, "Now that HG has gone bankrupt, my boss suspects that Michael and I were behind this. Even Todd thinks so too. Besides, I am no longer useful. Everyone is abandoning me. What did I, Corrine Swift, do? Why do I have to end up like this..."

"You can follow me from now on." Clement raised his wine glass and finished it in one go. "There’s nothing bad about being my woman. Although your life may be in slight danger, I will never make you feel aggrieved."

"My life may be in slight danger?" Wendy stared at him. She then asked, "Why will I be in danger?"

"As long as you hold back your curiosity, you won’t be in any danger," Clement simply answered. It seemed like he didn’t plan to tell Wendy anything.

How could he reveal his identity and background so casually?

Besides, it was rare for him to give such a promise to Wendy.

Although Clement often hung around the red-light districts, he only had one-night stands.

He wouldn’t casually fall in love with any woman.

Although he had been going out with several women at once, he was just messing around with them.

Wendy was the first woman he had ever developed an interest in at first sight.

He was initially figuring out a way to make her and Todd break up so that she could be his.

However, he didn’t expect her to offer herself up to him.

Why didn’t he pay more attention to HG’s chief designer previously?

If he had noticed her earlier, she would have been his a long time ago.

"What’s curiosity?" Wendy looked as if she was very drunk. "Why do I find you quite familiar? Have we met?"

"We have met yesterday. Have you forgotten about it?" Clement asked.

"We met yesterday?" Wendy took a closer look at him. She then acted as if she had recalled something. "Ah! I remember it now. Are you the man who sent me home last night?"

After Clement replied with a nod, Wendy stood up and gave him a bow. "Thank you, Sir, for sending me home."

Clement found Wendy’s actions rather hilarious.

He then asked her to take a seat. "Can I send you home today?"

"Do you want to send me home?" Wendy shook her head vigorously. "No, that’s a bad idea. Todd quarreled with me and wanted to break up with me last night because he suspected that we had a thing."

"Why don’t you just leave him and never see him again?" Clement said softly. "Be with me. I will never quarrel nor break up with you."

Clement didn’t have the need to break up.

After all, it would be impossible for him to marry someone in his life.

Wendy just happened to be his type.

He didn’t know how long his feelings for her would last, and he didn’t intend to know.

Since he only lived once, he should enjoy his life to the fullest.

...

"Leave him?" Wendy gave his suggestion serious thought. "But he had already left me."

"That’s why you should leave him first. If you do that, he’ll be the one feeling sad instead," Clement persuaded Wendy.

Wendy went along with him and gave him a nod. "That’s right. I should leave him first."

"How about leaving him, then staying with me?" Clement tried to lead her into being with him once again.

Wendy blinked her eyes and asked, "Be with you? Are you rich enough to support me? What’s your occupation? How much money do you have?"

"I do everything for a job. I can definitely support you," Clement replied with a smile.

"But... But..." Wendy seemed unable to complete her sentence.

Clement reached out and supported her. "You’re drunk. Let me send you home. Do you want to go to a hotel, or do you want to go home?"

It didn’t matter to Clement whether Wendy wanted to go to a hotel or go back home because she had already fallen into his hands.

"Todd will be mad if we go to a hotel," Wendy said. "He won’t be happy about it."

Going back home seemed to be a better choice for Wendy.

After all, she was more familiar with her own place.

Hence, it would be easier for her to carry out her plan.

"Let’s go home then," Clement replied.

As long as they could leave the bar, anything would do.

"But I still want to drink..." Wendy picked up her glass that was resting on the table. "Didn’t you promise not to leave until we’re both drunk? I’m not drunk yet."

"But I am. Can you send me back?" said Clement. "We can’t both get drunk, right?

Otherwise, we won’t be able to go home."

Wendy nodded as if she found what Clement said made sense.

Clement then helped Wendy out of the bar.

After they left the bar, Wendy threw a tantrum when she saw a few people following right behind Clement. "Who are they? Why are they following us?"

"They’re my bodyguards," Clement replied. "They’re here to ensure our safety."

"I don’t like these bodyguards. I hate being followed." Wendy was throwing a tantrum. "I don’t want to be followed."

"Alright, alright. I will ask them to stop following us." Clement signaled them to leave.

He then turned towards Wendy and said, "Alright, it’s just the two of us now. Shall we get into the car?"

"Okay." Wendy watched Clement open the car door with a smile. She then got into the car.

Wendy told him her address. "I live at Norden Apartments. Do you know where Norden Apartments is?"

"Yes, I sent you back home yesterday." Clement then drove off at an incredible speed.

He was quite impatient.

To him, Wendy was the perfect prey.

How could he not be impatient when his prey was right beside him?

"Is it? Alright then, let’s go!" Wendy glanced at the rear mirror.

It seemed like the bodyguards who she had just sent away were still following them.

However, there weren’t many of them.

Todd sent quite a lot of men with her tonight.

She just had to lure Clement into her house and drug him with the substance given by Todd.

Everything would be easy from then on.

....

Michael just got off the plane.

The first thing he did after getting off the plane was to call his subordinate.

Although he could receive calls on the plane, the signal was weak. The line was being cut off from time to time.

Michael was extremely anxious during this 10-hour flight.

He didn’t know what’s going on with Wendy right now.

However, just a moment ago, he received a text message saying that Wendy and Todd had a huge argument and was were the verge of breaking up.

Wendy then went drinking in a bar alone.

Michael was aware that Todd and Wendy’s relationship was a sham.

Being together with Wendy was more than Todd could ever wish for. How could he possibly break up with Wendy?

It was more likely for him to woo Wendy instead.

Therefore, Michael had a really bad feeling about this.

Seeing Michael’s name on the screen, the subordinate immediately took the call.

"Mr. Lucas..." The man knew what Michael was going to ask. He then reported, "Ms. Stewart had got into Clement’s car. She seemed to be extremely drunk. We are currently following their car. However, we don’t dare to follow them too closely as we are afraid that we might be spotted."

"Do you know where they are heading to?" Michael asked.

Wendy was extremely drunk?

Michael had doubts about that.

Since Wendy purposely tried to get close to Clement, she must be pretending to be drunk.

"It seems like they are heading to Wendy’s place, but I am not completely sure," the man answered honestly.

"Follow them closely. Don’t lose them. You can’t afford to let that happen," Michael ordered coldly. "Send me your location. I will get there immediately."

There was a total of 11 people in Michael’s helicopter.

Besides him, Mr. York, and the pilot, the rest were very capable bodyguards who were handpicked by him.

Reinforcements were still on their way.

Michael couldn’t send them by helicopter as they would attract too much attention, and besides, there was a limit to the number of passengers allowed in a helicopter.

Moreover, having additional helicopters ready would take a lot of time. Michael simply didn’t have much time to be wasted.

So, Michael booked a private plane for them instead.

They should be arriving very soon.

However, Michael couldn’t afford to look for Wendy after everyone had arrived.

He had to look for her immediately to ensure her safety.

If Wendy were really in danger, he wanted to be there to protect her.

That might be the only thing he could do for Wendy.

Michael took a deep breath as he stared into space.

Mr. York got them a car. He then opened the car door for him.

After Michael entered the car, Mr. York drove off immediately.

In the blink of an eye, Michael received a real-time location update from his subordinate.

He then sent it to Mr. York and asked him to follow that location.

After a while, Michael realized that they were really heading towards Wendy’s place.

Mr. York realized it too. "Mr. Lucas, is Ms. Stewart bringing someone home?"

"It seems like it," Michael said worriedly. "Step on it."

Mr. York was already driving at an incredible speed. He even ran through some traffic lights along the way.

However, to Michael, he was still not driving fast enough.

Michael wished that he would grow a pair of wings so that he could fly to Wendy immediately.

"How long will it take for us to get there?" Michael asked impatiently.

"Half an hour," Mr. York replied.

Provided that he maintained their current speed.

"That long?" Michael clenched his fists.
