Chapter 449: You’re Definitely Lying To Me

"Alright, Mommy will come back soon," Wendy said to Jake. "It’s getting late and you have to go to school tomorrow, don’t you? Go to sleep early."

"Goodnight Mommy." Jake waved at the camera. Wendy waved to him as well.

When Michael saw that, he turned the camera back to himself. "How are you doing?"

he asked Wendy.

"Pretty good. What about all of you?" Wendy had called them just to listen to their voices and to see their faces, because that night, she was going to face Clement.

Everything last night had gone much better than she had expected. Wendy had planned to go look for Clement and have an ’accidental meeting’ with him. Then, she would make him grow more interested in her so she could then find a way to get close to him. However, it had been Clement who had come looking for her that night.

So, everything can proceed earlier than they had planned.

Wendy would not spend too much time with Clement, because the more time she took, the easier it would be for Clement to find out certain things and begin to suspect her. So she had to strike while the iron was hot. She had to control Clement before he could react.

However, it was possible her plan would not succeed. Wendy was not 100 percent confident. That was why she wanted to see Michael and the children. Wendy’s heart felt very heavy, but she still smiled into the camera.

"You don’t have to worry when the kids are with me," Michael said with a smile. "I am their father. I will definitely treat them well."

"That’s true." Wendy did not know what to say next. It grew silent.

"Leah’s asleep. Do you want to see her?" Michael took the initiative to ask.

Wendy was afraid that she would disturb Leah but she also wanted to see her. She remembered back when Michael had video called her. She had also shown him the kids while they were sleeping. Their family of four had gone through quite a lot.

Wendy hoped that she could deal with Christian quickly. Then, she would be able to return to Lake City and reunite with them.

"Yeah, let me see her," Wendy said after some thought. Michael nodded and left Jake’s room with his phone in hand.

He walked into Leah’s room with soft steps and switched on the bedside lamp. He pointed the camera at Leah for Wendy to see her. Leah was sleeping very soundly but it was obvious that she had cried earlier. Wendy’s heart ached.

Michael took the phone out of the room quickly after. "She cries because she misses you but everything else is fine," he said.

"Okay," Wendy hummed in acknowledgment. She did not know what else she could say. She was afraid that Michael would realize that something was wrong if she said too much.

She breathed in deeply and said, "You should all go to bed early. I am going to work now."

Michael did not stop her because he was about to go to Rheinsville City. "Alright then. See you, Wendy." Michael waved at the camera. Then, Wendy hung up.

Michael stood still, holding on to the phone for a moment. Then, he went to pack his bags.

Jake emerged from his room and saw Michael packing his luggage. He saw Michael carrying a backpack and calling someone on his phone. Jake watched as Michael prepared to leave.

Michael saw that Jake was watching him. Before he left, he bent down to his son. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Jake, wait for me to bring Mommy home safely," he said to him.

Jake nodded solemnly. "You two have to come home safely." Michael touseled Jake’s hair and nodded, not saying anything else. Then, he turned around and left.

...

After hanging up, Wendy sat down, feeling alone in her house. The room was empty and her home felt cold without her two children there. Wendy seemed to be able to imagine her children playing on the sofa, doing their homework in the study, and eating in the dining room. She felt a little down and picked up the remote control to switch on the television. She found a variety show and watched that. However, no matter how funny the show was, at that moment, Wendy could not find it funny at all.

Time slowly ticked by until it was seven in the evening. Wendy drove to Todd’s company alone. After parking the car, she went to Todd’s office where he was waiting for her. When he saw Wendy entering the office, he made a gesture for her to sit down. Wendy sat on the sofa and noticed a glass of fruit juice had already been placed in front of her.

"I had someone squeeze it just now. Try it and see if it’s good," said Todd.

Wendy picked up the glass of fruit juice and took a sip of it. She nodded and said, "It’s pretty good."

After that, Todd took out a small sachet of white powder from his pocket. "Find an opportunity and put this drug in Clement’s wine glass," he said, handing it to Wendy.

"If there’s no suitable opportunity, don’t do it. Your safety is the first priority, get it?"

"Alright." Wendy took the drug and placed it in her bag.

She looked at the time. It was was still early as it was not even eight yet. Clement usually went to the bar at 11 or 12, and he would usually spend the night there. To be more exact, he would find a suitable woman and go to a hotel with her. Wendy wanted to get close to Clement, so she had to work with his schedule. Wendy thought to herself that she could leave at about 10 at night.

"Go and do your thing. I will just sit here for a bit longer. Then, we can leave together and have a fight," said Wendy.

They were fighting for Clement to see, of course. She would only be able to have a suitable excuse to go to the bar and get drunk after the fight. Todd did not have much work to do with Wendy around. Their most important task right now was Clement. That was why Todd spent almost two hours with Wendy inside the office.

Seeing that it was about 10, Wendy stood up and said, "It’s about time."

Then, Wendy and Todd left the office together. The moment they got out of the lift, Wendy tugged on Todd’s sleeve and pleaded with him, "Todd, do you really want to break up with me? Don’t you want me anymore?"

Todd pushed Wendy aside emotionlessly. "Corrine, can you not be so unreasonable?" he said coldly. "Look at you now? Look at how you are behaving!

Can’t you just leave without making so much drama?"

"Todd, you can’t be so heartless. You were the one who pursued me back then!"

Wendy followed behind Todd and walked out of the company with him. "Have you forgotten what you said back then? That you would love me and only me? Why are you breaking up with me so quickly? I have already explained to you many times that there’s nothing going on between me and Michael. I only met that man for the first time last night. Why don’t you believe me? Or are you just trying to find a reason to break up with me?"

"Yes, that’s right. I am just finding a reason," Todd said with an indifferent tone. "So will you stop following me?"

Wendy stood still and watched as Todd left. Her face was wet with tears as she yelled at his back, "Todd!"

However, Todd did not stop.

...

After Todd drove off, Wendy was left crying alone at the side of the road.

Passersby and bystanders were staring at her while gossiping among themselves.

"I used to be jealous of how well Mr. Lewis was treating her. However, I have never expected Mr. Lewis to have a change of heart."

"I have told you long ago that the love between an outstanding person like Mr. Lewis and Corrine wouldn’t last long. After all, she has two children."

"Everyone knows what happened between Mr. Lewis and Corrine. How could he be so heartless? Isn’t he a bit too much? If he didn’t love her back then, why would he woo her in the first place?"

"Keep it down, we are still in the office building. Aren’t you afraid that what you just said might reach Mr. Lewis?"

...

As their voices disappeared into the distance, Wendy, whose eyes were red and swollen, stood up.

She then got into her car and drove off at an incredible speed.

Wendy drove to a bar as planned.

Clement frequented this bar.

After entering the bar, she ordered a lot of drinks.

At the same time, Clement received a call from his subordinate.

He had sent someone to keep an eye on Wendy the day before.

Therefore, he knew her whereabouts.

But of course, everything that Clement knew up to this point was things that Wendy wanted him to know.

Since Wendy was a pretty lady who was drinking alone, several men tried to hit on her.

"Babe, are you alone?" A few men came over. They then pointed at the vacant spot beside her with a smile. "Why drink alone if we can join you?"

Wendy had a low tolerance for alcohol.

She had taken some stimulant drug while she was at Todd’s office.

She wouldn’t get drunk so easily tonight.

Wendy purposely acted as if she was drunk while staring at those men with a smile.

"Sure. I will treat you guys to some drinks. Tonight, no one leaves until we’re all drunk!"

"Until we’re all drunk?" Those men were excited when they heard what Wendy said.

It was as if they had spotted the perfect prey. "Alright then. No one leaves until everyone is drunk! Since a pretty lady like you are so daring, we can’t possibly back down. Here, cheers!"

Those men were giving Wendy one shot after another.

They weren’t decent at all. They tried to take advantage of Wendy while they were drinking.

Since Wendy wasn’t really drunk, she acted as if she was throwing a temper after getting drunk. She slapped off their hands as she said, "Keep your hands away from me. Otherwise, I won’t be treating you guys to drinks anymore!"

Those men didn’t force it since Wendy was almost drunk.

They went along and continued to drink with her.

In the blink of an eye, Clement arrived.

He was very familiar with this bar. Thus, he managed to spot Wendy and the group of men easily.

He frowned when he saw them.

Wendy was his prey. How dare these men get close to her!

Clement walked towards Wendy and coldly said, "Leave!"

Those men snapped when they heard Clement’s angry voice. "Who dares to ask us to leave? Mis... mister... Mr. Clement..."

They knew who Clement was.

"We are sorry, Mr. Clement. We didn’t know that she’s your woman. We will leave immediately." The group of men turned around and left right away.

They were glad that they didn’t take Wendy away. Otherwise, their lives would be in danger if they messed with Clement.

...

"Don’t go. Didn’t we agree to not leave until we are all drunk?" Wendy stood up and tried to stop them when she saw them leaving.

However, the moment she stood up, the group of men was nowhere to be seen.

Clement was a regular at this bar. Therefore, many people knew who he was.

Since he had personally asked them to leave, how could they stay even a second longer?

"How can you all go against your words!" Wendy purposely tripped on herself and fell onto the floor while pretending to be drunk. She then cried out loud, "All men are trash! You never mean what you say! I will never believe your words ever again!"

Clement reached out and helped Wendy up.

However, Wendy refused to get up.

Since she was acting drunk, she had to make it convincing.

"I will get drunk with you." Clement took over Wendy’s wine glass from her hand.

Her glass was initially filled with alcohol. However, after her fall, her glass was now empty.

Clement put her glass aside, then helped her up once again. "Let’s get you up, alright?"

"Are you really going to get drunk with me?" Wendy stared at Clement, who was standing right before him, squinting her eyes.

"Yes." Clement nodded.

"You’re lying!" Wendy shouted suddenly.

"I am not lying." Clement unbuttoned his collar while staring at Wendy, who was drunk.

Wendy was his type. How could a man like Clement, who was constantly surrounded by countless women, control himself after seeing a drunken beauty right in front of him?

"Are you a man?" Wendy asked, sizing him up.

"Of course, I am a man," Clement said flirtatiously. "If you want to give me a try, I am more than happy to do it."

Wendy wasn’t really drunk. Therefore, she knew what he meant by those words.

Perfect. She was one step closer to her goal.

"All men are liars!" Wendy complained. "Back then, Michael Lucas bullied and hurt me. Yes, I was the one who went after him. However, Todd Lewis was the one who wooed me in the first place. Why is he abandoning me now? Tell me why!"

Wendy reached out and grabbed Clement’s sleeves while staring at him with teary eyes.

Clement helped Wendy up and sat her down on a chair.

When he saw her unable to balance herself on the stool, he pointed at the sofa beside them. "Shall we drink over there?"

This time, Wendy decided to go along with him. She then stood up and walked towards the sofa.

She collapsed on the sofa and acted as if she was feeling horrible.

When she saw that the table was empty, she raised her hand and shouted, "Hey!

Bring us some alcohol! Bring us lots and lots of alcohol!"

"Not all men are liars. Take me for example, I will never lie to you." Clement called the waiter over. After saying those words to Wendy, he ordered some drinks.

Although he didn’t like to force women against their will, he was not a decent man himself.

Since a golden opportunity was presented right before him tonight, he must use it and make Wendy even drunker than she already was.

"Are you really not lying to me?" Wendy stared at Clement with her big, round eyes.

"Yes." Clement was trying to please Wendy with great patience.

"Impossible. You’re definitely lying to me." Wendy suddenly shook her head as if she was scared. "You’re planning to deceive me, then throw me aside later, right?"
