Chapter 365: Todd’s Fear
Of course, Wendy spoke these words so that Timothy could hear them.
Timothy coughed lightly and awkwardly. Seeing Wendy hang up the phone, he finally said to her, "Corrine, please do not be angry with me. It was all my fault. But I am really very anxious. I am in a panic because someone got into my office, but I don’t know who that person is."
"I understand." Though she said that she understood, her expression was still the same, and she still looked very angry.
"How about I treat you to dinner? So, I can express my apologies," smiled Timothy.
"That’s okay. I will eat with Todd later." Wendy looked at Timothy and said, "If you insisted on eating together with us, then we would not refuse you."
"Then, maybe not," Timothy shook his hand. "I will just leave now."
Timothy returned to his office, but he still felt there was something wrong with this matter.
He called Todd at once.
Todd had already arrived at the building of HG at that time.
He did not feel surprised at receiving Timothy’s call at all.
"Timothy... " Todd acted as if nothing had happened.
"Come to my office immediately after you have finished dinner with Corrine," said Timothy.
After that, Timothy added, "Do not let Corrine know."
Timothy had no scruple against Todd.
After all, he was not in HG since a long time ago, and he had no influence on HG.
Also, since Todd knew about Timothy’s secrets, Timothy suspected him a lot.
"Do you want to talk about something with me?" asked Todd.
"You will know when you come here," Timothy answered coldly. "I will wait for you in the office."
Timothy hung up the phone after he finished those words.
Todd put away his phone and walked to Wendy’s office.
Zen did not get off work together with them. Wendy and Todd left directly.
Zen did not want to interfere with Wendy and Todd since their relationship was getting closer day by day.
She did not feel there was anything wrong.
After all, all couples needed some private space when they were deep in love with each other.
On their way back, Wendy said, "Timothy just talked to me about the incident last night."
"He also called me and asked me to go to him in his office after I have dinner with you," said Todd.
"I barely passed his test, but you should be careful," Wendy said while walking step by step. "But you will probably receive a harder test since Timothy obviously suspects you for sure. He kept asking me why he did not see us in the office after the power had come back on. I answered him with the answer that we discussed and agreed on last night. But you know Timothy’s secrets, so it will not be easy for you to pass through his test."
"Don’t worry, Timothy can do nothing as long as he has no evidence," sighed Todd.
"He only suspects me."
"Yes," Wendy nodded. "But you should be careful to deal with him anyway."
"Please be rest assured," Todd looked back at Wendy and smiled warmly, as he usually did.
But there was no longer any light shining in his eyes.
"I am sorry, Todd, that I have entangled you into these matters." Wendy knew that saying that was not meaningful at all, but she did not know what else she could say or do.
"I will really get angry if you keep saying these words," Todd took a deep breath and smiled. "Let’s go. I have to meet Timothy after dinner. He will probably become even angrier if I keep him waiting for too long."
...
After sending Wendy back after dinner, Todd slowly walked to HG.
When he arrived at Timothy’s office, Timothy had been sitting on the sofa, waiting for him with a gloomy look.
Seeing that Todd had come, Timothy pointed to the coffee on the table and told him lightly, "I brewed this coffee which you like; please feel free to taste."
"Thank you, Timothy." Todd stayed calm, but he felt surprised by the nice treatment. "You called me and made coffee for me in person; I am a little shy about this."
Todd took the coffee and sipped it. Then he put it down and smiled, "Very good, thank you, Timothy."
Todd looked up at Timothy and found that he still looked gloomy. It was obvious that he was furious as he was frowning. Todd asked, "What’s up, Timothy?"
"There was a power failure last night at HG. Did you know that?" Timothy asked Todd directly.
Todd nodded, "Yes, I do. I accompanied Corrine since she worked overtime until late.
There were two or three times that the power cut off."
Todd frowned and asked, "Why are you so concerned about the power failure, Timothy? Is there something seriously wrong with the power in HG that has made you so solemn?"
"If it were only a simple power failure, why did I ask you to come here?" Timothy crossed his legs and looked deeply into Todd’s eyes.
"Oh yes," Todd looked confused. "You should ask the people in charge of power. Do you want me to introduce a better power company to you?"
"Todd!" Timothy slapped the table violently. He did not want to beat around the bush with him anymore. "Where on earth were you when there was the power failure last night?"
"I was in Corrine’s office," Todd opened his eyes wide and looked startled. "Timothy, what’s wrong with you? I have not seen you so furious like this for a long time. If you do not believe me, you can ask Corrine.
"Or do you not want me to come to the company for Corrine?
"After all, I do not belong to HG now, and Corrine is in charge of the most important Moonlight Project. Are you afraid that the designs might be given away?
"Timothy, please be rest assured on this matter. You know what kind of person I am.
It is unlikely that I would do something improper like that.
"I accompanied Corrine while she was working overtime only because I wanted to be together with her. I did not have any improper interference with her work at all."
"Come with me," Timothy told Todd, then walked towards the computer.
Everything was black during the power failure in the surveillance video but there were recordings before and after the power failure.
Timothy pointed to the screen on the computer and asked, "Where were you and Corrine when the power came back on after the first power failure?"
"Timothy, what do you mean by asking this?" Todd looked very surprised and confused. "I was indeed always with Corrine in her office last night, and there were dead corners in the office. Also, I recall there was another power failure shortly after the power came back on."
"I need you to tell me exactly where you were!" Timothy sounded very strict and harsh.
"Well." Todd looked very reluctant, but in the end, he made a compromise and said, "Everything is recorded in the surveillance video, isn’t it? After the first power failure, Corrine and I were in the lounge, which is why we were not on the surveillance video. But Timothy, what on earth is wrong with you today?"
"What is wrong with me?" Timothy sneered. "Todd, is there something wrong with me or you? You promised me solemnly at that time."
Timothy slapped the table because he was furious and stared at Todd.
Todd came closer. He could see Timothy’s rage-filled eyes.
"Mentor..." Todd looked frightened, and he stepped back in fear, "Mentor, what on earth is wrong with you? Why are you so mad? Did I do something wrong? I’m scared of you for acting like this."
"Scared?" Timothy sneered, "You’re scared?"
"I rarely see you like this, of course, I’m scared." Todd seemed startled.
"So you want me to tell you directly, right?" Timothy nodded and sounded cold, "Alright, I’ll tell you then! You and Corrine were not in the office when the power went out, at least I coudn’t see you in the surveillance video. But last night someone entered my office and went into my lounge! Todd, you know why I never let anyone enter and clean my lounge, don’t you?"
"Yeah I know..." Todd nodded, "Someone on the cleaning staff touched something in your lounge, you got extremely mad, and then never let them in again. But, how does that have anything to do with me? Did you lose something and think that I took it?"
"I do think you took something!" Timothy told him, "You’re the only one who knows about it. The power outtage, and Corrine was working overtime. Everything seems like such a coincidence. Todd, I’ve been your supervisor for a long time. Do you think I’m foolish enough to believe in a coincidence like this?"
"I don’t understand." Todd looked confused, "Someone entered your lounge last night, and Corrine and I happened to be inside the building, so you think we did it?"
"Should I not suspect you guys?" Timothy asked.
"I..." Todd was so angry that he laughed. He walked back and forth, "Then, could you please tell me what you lost?":
"I didn’t lose anything," Timothy said.
"Why are you so furious if you didn’t lose anything?" Todd was confused, but he looked relieved.
"You’re still pretending you don’t know anything about it?" Timothy slapped his hand on the table again.
He was so forceful that the sound echoed throughout the entire office.
He was very angry about what happened.
"I suspect you because I lost nothing!" Timothy opened his eyes wide out of rage, "The thief didn’t want money or property. They didn’t even want HG’s internal materials. But you weren’t in the surveillance video during that time. You were in HG once and know it very well. It wouldn’t be difficult for you to cause a power outage.
The most important thing is that someone touched my safe. Someone attempted to put the password in twice!"
"Safe?" Todd was confused and asked, "What safe?"
"Haha...you’re still pretending that you don’t know anything, right?" Timothy said, "The safe that has the evidence! You don’t need to ask me what evidence I’m talking about, do you?"
"I..." Todd looked shocked, "You mean the evidence of what you did?"
Todd covered his mouth with his hands and was startled by what Timothy had said.
