Chapter 361: There Was A Mouse Squeaking
Wendy never expected that Todd would take the initiative to offer her help on that day itself.
Wendy was extremely grateful for Todd.
After Todd left HG, Wendy pretended like nothing ever happened and continued to attend to her work and meetings conscientiously.
It was almost time to go off duty. Zen reminded her, "Ms. Swift, are you going to work overtime or knock-off accordingly? Or are you going to wait for Mr. Lewis?"
"Mm..." Wendy heard Zen’s question and she acted shy. She lowered her head and replied bashfully in embarrassment, "I am going to work overtime. But Todd said that he will come and keep me company later tonight."
"Understood..." Zen nodded with a smile. She naturally wouldn’t be a third-wheeler.
She immediately said, "I shall get off duty first then."
"Alright. You can head back first," Wendy said.
Ever since last night which outsiders assumed that Wendy and Todd went for a date, Zen became much easier to deal with.
As long as she said that she had arrangements with Todd, Zen would excuse herself conscientiously.
Todd arrived at HG not long after Zen left.
There were only Wendy and Todd left in the office.
Todd pressed his voice low, saying, "It’s done. Let’s wait a little longer and we shall take action."
Wendy nodded and asked curiously, "How did you get it done?"
The HG chief security. I helped him once back then. I contacted him today and offered him some money. So, he agreed," Todd answered.
Wendy nodded, giving Todd a thumbs up.
She buried herself in her work all the time. Besides the design department in HG, she didn’t bother with anything else.
It seemed that connections were very important.
From the person in charge of a company to a security guard in the office, they might possibly offer help at any given time.
The time was ticking.
The people in HG finally left one after another.
The chief security sent Todd a message too.
There was only one simple line in the message: The director just left his office.
Todd received the message and he showed it to Wendy.
The two of them exchanged a glance and nodded.
However, just to be safe, they didn’t depart to Timothy’s office immediately.
But waited for another half an hour just to be sure that there wasn’t any problem.
Todd then sent the chief security a message for him to cut off the electricity.
Cutting off the surveillance would easily cause suspicion.
As for cutting off the electricity, he could simply explain it as electricity tripped when someone noticed.
Furthermore, it was already almost one in the morning. There weren’t many people in the office.
On the floor that Timothy’s office was located at, besides himself, there was only one other office that belonged to his secretary.
The entire floor’s lights were off then.
Due to the electricity cut off, the elevators weren’t operational. They climbed the stairs to the director’s office.
Luckily, Timothy’s office was only one floor above Wendy’s office.
They arrived at the floor really quickly.
Wendy walked to the office door and she told him softly, "Wait for me outside. I will go in there alone."
"I will go in with you. It’s difficult for you to find it alone," Todd said, holding Wendy’s hand. He didn’t say anything more but pulled her into the office behind him, creeping quietly.
Wendy and Todd were familiar with Timothy’s office.
Even though there weren’t any lights, they could tell precisely where the break room was.
After they entered the break room, they closed the door behind them. Then, they took out their phone and turned on the torchlight function.
The break room suddenly became bright.
"Let’s look for the switch for the safe separately..." Todd said.
Wendy nodded and the two of them put on their gloves soon after. Then, the two of them turned around and began to fumble for the switch all over the wall and table.
They didn’t manage to locate the switch for quite some time.
Todd and Wendy shook their heads at each other.
Then, they started searching for the second time.
Wendy creased her eyebrows, recalling Todd told her that the cleaner accidentally pressed on the button when she was cleaning the office.
So, she began to think about which places would the cleaner touch easily.
She swept her phone torch across the wall. She looked through the four walls but didn’t find anything out of the ordinary.
Wendy’s eyes then fixed upon the bed.
She looked through the walls and the table but she didn’t find anything.
But she had yet to search the bed.
Wendy crawled onto the bed softly and groped about the blanket on the bed.
There was nothing strange about the blanket.
She then picked up the pillow on the bed.
She slowly moved her torchlight closer...
Wendy then realized the wall where the pillow was originally placed over had a small bump.
Wendy stretched out her hand and pressed on the bump without hesitation.
A noise soon resounded in her ear.
Wendy looked in the direction of the noise source and there was a spot on the wall that slowly moved away.
Soon after, she saw an empty slot on the wall. In the empty slot, there was a decent-sized safe.
Todd heard the noise too. He went to stand next to Wendy then.
Wendy stretched her hand, wanting to take the safe. But she realized that the safe was locked to the wall.
She wouldn’t be able to open the safe without a key.
In other words, she wouldn’t be able to take the safe down.
Todd took a closer look at the safe, saying, "This should need a password. Should we give it a try?"
Wendy nodded and thought for a while. She then keyed in Timothy’s birthdate as the password.
The password was obviously incorrect.
Then, Wendy tried Timothy’s wife, Rosa’s birthdate.
She still failed to unlock the safe.
It prompted the safe to give a reminder. There was only one last chance to key in the password that day.
Wendy and Todd exchanged a glance, looking rather solemn.
There was only one last chance and Wendy didn’t have the courage to try recklessly.
She would be doomed if she triggered the lock in the safe.
Wendy asked Todd softly, "Can you guess Mr. Woods’s password?"
"I made the same guesses as you did," Todd replied, shaking his head helplessly.
"What should we do... We can’t bring this with us," Wendy said, frowning while looking at the lock on the safe.
Just as Todd was about to reply her, someone sent him a message through his phone.
It was from the chief security.
Todd immediately tapped the message open. It said: The chief secretary is here. She is going upstairs.
The chief secretary that the chief security was referring to was Timothy’s wife, Rosa.
Why is she here at this hour?
It was one in the morning. On top of that, didn’t she just left half an hour ago with Timothy?
Wendy and Todd saw the message and their hearts started racing.
They quickly resumed the office to its original state. Then, they planned to leave the place quickly and carefully.
Just as they were about to open the break room door, Todd received another message on his phone: I have to reactivate the electricity this instance.
The message made both Todd and Wendy stopped moving.
There was no surveillance system installed in the breakroom because it was where Timothy rest when he was tired.
But the moment they exited the break room, his office itself was equipped with surveillance systems.
Wouldn’t they be caught on the surveillance camera if they were to head out then?
It was impossible for Wendy and Todd to explain themselves if Timothy were to catch them on the surveillance camera.
Wendy and Todd exchanged a look and nodded at each other.
They were well aware that they couldn’t exit from the break room then.
It was already so late. Rosa definitely came back to the office to retrieve something.
She wouldn’t be back to the office to work overnight, would she?
So, they planned to stay for a little longer in the break room. Then, they would get the chief security to cut off the electricity again after Rosa leaves.
They would head out then.
Soon after, there were footsteps resounding in the silent office.
However, it sounded like there were more than a person’s footsteps.
Then, they heard the chief security’s voice. He spoke ingratiatingly, "Chief secretary, why are you back in the office so late at night? Didn’t you just left the office with the chairman not too long ago?"
"Don’t make me bring it up. We just arrived home not too long. Then, your chairman received an international call, calling for a video conference. The information needed for the conference is in the office. So, I have to come back and get the documents," Rosa complained.
She worked overtime with Timothy until late at night and she had to return to the office to retrieve the document after she arrived home.
Forget about the fact that Rosa was Timothy’s wife, even an ordinary secretary would be upset about it.
However, work was work after all.
Rosa had been with Timothy for so many years. She drew a clear distinction between work and private life.
"You work really hard... Actually, you could give us a call and we can get the documents to be sent to you," the chief security said, smiling.
"It is more convenient for me to do it myself," Rosa replied.
"I understand... I am just casually saying. Chief secretary, I will wait for you at the door," the chief security said.
Rosa got the chief security to come upstairs with her because the electricity got cut off and she was afraid.
It was so late at night after all.
Although the electricity resumed, there weren’t many people left in the office.
Women were more timidafter all.
Rosa entered the office and fumbled about at the working desk. She couldn’t find what she was looking for.
She was getting impatient. She took her phone out and called Timothy, "Where did you put the documents? I can’t find it on your working desk or your drawers."
"Break room? Alright, I will go and look for it."
Rosa then put down her phone.
Then, Wendy and Todd heard footsteps approaching in their direction.
They were terrified and their faces grew pale.
Wouldn’t they be doomed if Rosa were to walk into them?
Wendy quickly looked around and see where they could hide.
The breakroom wasn’t small but besides the wardrobe, they would be noticed with one glance.
The wardrobe couldn’t fit the two of them.
Plus, Rosa was about to enter the breakroom. They wouldn’t be able to hide in the wardrobe in time.
They would even make noises from hiding in the wardrobe.
The footsteps were getting closer. It was as though Rosa was going to walk through the door at the very next moment.
Just as Wendy was panicking, she heard squeaking noises...
Wendy frowned, turning her head to look at Todd. Was it from him?
Then, the footsteps at the door stopped. It was followed by a terrifying shrill scream.
The chief security heard the scream and immediately rushed in, asking, "What happened, chief secretary?"
"There was a mouse squeaking. Did you hear that?" Rosa asked the chief security in fear.
"Mouse?" The chief security wasn’t silly. He glanced at the break room and immediately nodded, "I heard it. I heard it. How does the cleaner do the cleaning?
Why would there be mice in the chairman’s office? I will look for the person in charge tomorrow early morning. I am going to give them a good lecture and deduct their performance bonus!"
