Chapter 322: Slapped Me Again
Yonina walked over to Christian’s car, reached out, pulled the door open, and got in.
As soon as she got in, Yonina shook her head in distress and said, "Christian, change your plan. Do you know how Michael scolded me? I, Yonina, have never been so angry in all my life! When I didn’t release the news of my pregnancy, Michael just ignored me as if I were air. Now, he’s calling me shameless and saying it’s impossible for him to take responsibility."
Upon hearing this, Christian said, "I heard it all." Christian started the car, turned the wheel, and drove off.
Christian continued, "Marriage to Michael is the only way you can go. If you can’t do that, then you’re of no use to me. You should know exactly what I will do with people who are useless to me."
Yonina said, "You... "
Yonina was frightened by Christian’s words. She clenched her teeth and said, word for word, "But what else can I do? I’m pregnant, and Michael won’t even marry me, so what else can I do?"
Christian said, "Take it easy. I’ll help you."
Christian smiled lightly and said, "Isn’t Winnie very fond of you? You should be in touch with her more and tell her that you are pregnant with the Lucas family’s grandchild. Then I will arrange an assassination attempt, and then you will rescue Michael. Michael and Wendy have been married for so many years after all, so it’s indeed unlikely that you will be able to force him to marry you right away. But there’s no rush. We can take our time."
Yonina said, "But tomorrow, Wendy is leaving Lake City, and Michael intends to go and get Wendy to stay, so what if Wendy gets soft-hearted and stays? Then wouldn’t I have no chance at all?"
Christian said, "I know them both better than you do. Just do what I want you to do."
Yonina’s eyes narrowed as she listened to Christian’s words.
It seemed that Michael was right.
If they had followed Christian’s plan at the beginning, Christian would have been suspicious.
Now, judging from Christian’s attitude, everything seemed to be normal for him.
This battle was silent but fierce.
They were both engaged in psychological warfare.
...
The next morning, Wendy woke up early.
In fact, she hadn’t slept all night last night.
She got up and put on her makeup in a sophisticated manner.
Even if it was time to leave, she wanted to look her best and most beautiful.
When Todd saw Wendy, she had already packed everything up.
Zess had already made breakfast and greeted them with a smile as she said, "Wendy, Mr. Lewis, you guys eat first while I go wake the kids up."
As soon as Zess spoke, she saw both Jake and Leah come out of the room.
"Wash up and eat now." After Zess finished speaking, she returned to the dining table and ladled out porridge for them.
When Wendy looked at the huge table in front of her, she was a little surprised and asked, "Why did you make so much?"
Zess said, "I thought this was the last meal I’d cook here."
Zess smiled a little reluctantly and said with a sad tone, "Eat, it’s getting late."
Zess’ words caused Wendy’s face to sink slightly.
Wendy looked at this so-called former home.
Yes, this was the last meal she would eat here.
Wendy sat down and took her utensils, but she lost her appetite.
When Zess saw this, she said guiltily, "I really don’t know how to talk properly."
Zess reached out and slapped herself.
"You guys eat first. I’ll see if the kids are done." Wendy stood up with her eyes slightly teary.
...
After eating, all of them were ready to leave.
Wendy held Leah in one hand and dragged her suitcase with the other.
She actually didn’t bring anything with her. The suitcase was full of the children’s things.
Last night, when Wendy helped Leah organize her things, she found out that Leah had a photo frame.
The picture in the frame was of Michael.
Wendy knew that Leah still couldn’t let go of Michael.
Standing at the door, Wendy reached out and closed the door.
She watched the door slowly close, just like her heart did.
Closing her eyes, Wendy took a deep breath, turned around and walked towards the elevator without looking back, and said, "Let’s go."
Todd and the others followed behind Wendy. They knew she was having a hard time, but they didn’t know what to say to comfort her. So, they didn’t say anything.
As long as they left here, everything would slowly pass.
When they arrived at the airport, it was with no surprise that they saw Michael.
Wendy took Leah and tried to walk around him.
Unfortunately, Leah had already seen Michael and immediately let go of Wendy’s hand and ran over and said, "Daddy... "
Watching his daughter run over, Michael knelt down and picked her up.
Leah happily reached out and hugged his neck and said with a smile, "Daddy, aren’t you busy today? Are you coming to see us off, or are you coming with us to Rheinsville City?"
"I... " Michael didn’t know what to say to Leah. He reached out and stroked her head, then walked over to Wendy with Leah in his arms.
Wendy turned her head slightly sideways and averted her gaze.
"Wendy, I heard you were leaving today." Michael said at a loss for words, "I think, think... "
Wendy reached out and took Leah out of his arms. Ignoring him, she said to Leah, "We’re boarding the plane and leaving."
Leah said, "Mummy, why are you ignoring Daddy?" Leah blinked her eyes with some confusion.
She remembered the way Mummy cried yesterday and suddenly got scared again.
She bit her lip and asked, "Mummy, do you not want to see Daddy?"
Wendy said, "Leah, do you want to stay with Daddy or follow Mummy and Jake to Rheinsville City?" Wendy knew the question was cruel to Leah, but sooner or later, she would have to face it.
Michael was here today, so there was no way to avoid it.
"I... I... " Leah’s eyes instantly teared up when she heard the words.
She reached out and wiped her tears. She wanted to say she wished mummy wouldn’t go and would stay home with daddy.
But looking at Wendy’s serious expression and remembering how sad and upset she was these days, Leah didn’t know what was happening, but she was smart enough to realize the seriousness of the situation.
She had to make a choice now.
Leah wiped her tears as she cried, sniffled, and said, "I will go with Mummy and Jake."
Leah’s words made Wendy feel relieved and sad.
Wendy hugged Leah and walked straight past Michael.
It seemed as if she didn’t see him.
Michael called out to Wendy and said, "Wendy... "
Seeing that Wendy didn’t answer him, Michael had to go after her and took Jake’s hand.
Jake looked back as he was being pulled by Michael. He frowned and said coldly, "Let go."
Michael didn’t let go.
Jake said, "I told you to let go!" Jake’s tone was extraordinarily firm and determined.
"Jake, are you going to follow Mummy too?" Michael’s tone was tinged with guilt and reluctance, and he said, "Help me persuade Mummy, okay?"
...
Michael was pulling Jake’s hand as he listened to Michael’s words and turned to look back at him with impatience in his eyes. He said, "Where did you get the nerve to ask me to help you persuade Mummy?"
Jake’s address had changed from Daddy to ’you’.
His affection for Michael was based entirely on Wendy, his mother. If their relationship was good, Jake would acknowledge his father. If their relationship was bad, Jake didn’t have a father.
"I... " Michael was at a loss for what to say.
Jake shook off Michael’s hand immediately and then ran in stride towards Wendy.
"Wendy!" Michael yelled in the airport as he watched their backs as they left, "Are you that heartless? Yes, I did do something wrong, but I didn’t do it of my own free will.
"I want to make it up to you. I want to apologize to you, but what about you?
"We’ve been married for so many years, but you don’t trust me at all, and you didn’t even listen to my explanations when you tried to kill me.
"Wendy, I’ve treated you well enough. I made one little mistake, yet you are so unforgiving!
"You were in Rheinsville City for five years, and I trusted you completely. I never even asked you if you had been with other men.
"Look at the men around you. Who are you to hold on to this thing and refuse to forgive me!"
Michael’s words made Wendy’s whole body tremble.
She put Leah aside and walked back to Michael’s side step by step.
Seeing the angry Wendy, Michael showed joy on his face and said, "Wendy, are you willing to forgive me now?"
But in his heart, he felt bitter. Because he knew Wendy’s personality very well. She didn’t turn around to forgive him but to slap him.
Sure enough, the next second, Michael received a tight slap.
"Wendy!" Michael reached out and covered the half of his face that had been hit. With a look of disbelief, he said, "You slapped me again?"
"Yes, I slapped you again," Wendy said coldly word by word. "I, Wendy, have no relationship with you, Michael. As for who I am with or how many people I have been with, it has nothing to do with you, Mr. Lucas. I hope you will have some respect for yourself and stop pestering me. After all, your girlfriend is pregnant with your child."
Wendy looked at Yonina, who was anxiously approaching from afar, and her whole body was trembling with anger.
"How are you, Michael?" Yonina looked at Michael’s face with concern and care. She saw that five finger marks had surfaced on his face and said, "Did you hurt yourself anywhere else besides your face?"
Michael didn’t say anything but looked straight at Wendy.
Yonina saw that Michael did not answer her, so she looked at Wendy and questioned her, "What right do you have to hit him? Wendy, you should know your place. You and Michael are no longer legally married. I don’t care how you used to be, but he will be my husband and the father of my children in the future. I’m warning you, if you lay one more finger on Michael, I won’t spare you."
"Haha." Wendy sneered and said, "Yonina, I used to think you were a role model who managed the Collins Group single-handedly or at least knew right from wrong. It turns out that I was also wrong. It seems that I really can’t judge people well."
"Don’t throw shade at me," Yonina looked sullen, and her tone was not polite at all. She said, "I know you’re leaving Lake City today. I wish you a safe trip and hope you don’t come back to bother Michael and me."
