Chapter 299: I Don’t Care. I Just Want To Go!

After his motive was exposed by Michael, Christian acted as if he was not surprised.

He smiled simply, his expression as light as the wind.

Seeing Christian’s look, Michael looked at him viciously. "You owe my mother an apology too," he enunciated each word as he spoke.

"I"m sorry." Christian bowed deeply before Winnie, his attitude humble and sincere.

At least on the surface it seemed that way.

No one had expected that Christian would apologize so quickly. He did not say anything else after his apology. Not only was Michael surprised, but even Lily was surprised.

Lily held Christian’s hand and asked softly, "Why are you apologizing?"

"My brother has asked me to apologize. Of course I have to apologize." Christian had an as-a-matter-of-fact expression. "Elder brother is like a father."

Christian’s simple statement had changed the nature of the apology.

Lily did not know Christian at all and she did not understand why he had to lower his head over this matter.

But Michael understood.

What Christian was concerned about was not the loss on the surface at all. As the son of a mistress who could never see the light, Christian had never relied on a moment of pride to progress until he had attained the power and strength that he had today.

His purpose today was to let Lily come and trigger Winnie. His objective had already been achieved. Giving a verbal apology did not matter much at all to him.

"Auntie is my elder, indeed I should apologize." Christian shifted his gaze to Michael and said with a smile, "But my mother is also your elder. You brought so many people to lay hands on her and beat her up like this. Shouldn’t you apologize too?"

Ha.

So Christian was waiting for Michael.

For him to apologize to Lily?

The very thought was unthinkable.

"First, I’ve never accepted you, this brother from a mistress," Michael said. "Second, there is no one in our family by the name of Lily. How can you speak as if she is my elder? Third, I wouldn’t mind using the law and taking legal measures to settle today’s incidents."

As Lily had started it first, they were already at a loss in the first place.

Winnie’s mind was clearly suffering from some kind of mental illness. So, according to the law, she was part of the vulnerable population and had certain protection.

Therefore, if they had really reported this to the police, Lily would only be at a disadvantage.

Of course, Michael bringing men to beat Lily up was nonetheless Michael’s fault.

So if this situation really turned into a legal matter, neither of them would benefit.

"If there’s nothing else, then I’ll leave first to take my mother to treat her injuries."

Christian did not wish to make this matter any bigger than it was.

His goal had already been achieved.

After he finished speaking, Christian took Lily and turned to walk out.

"You should stop them! You haven’t beaten them to death!" Winnie quickly gave chase.

Michael reached out an arm and blocked her.

If today’s matter was blown any more out of proportion, both sides would be at a disadvantage.

Christian and Lily had already apologized. Furthermore, Lily’s injuries were more serious that Winnie’s.

What could they do even if they had given chase? Could they really beat them?

Michael looked at Winnie, his expression very angry.

Since they were still at the scene, Michael pulled her to walk out. "Let’s go home first," he said as they walked.

"Going home is good. Going home is good." Winnie quickly asked, "Are you going home with me?"

Hearing Michael said they were going home, Winnie started to forget about what happened before.

Michael agreed. He called his group of bodyguards and they all left the shop.

The shop owner heaved a sigh a relief only after seeing that the two respected gods had left.

If these two had really made a huge fuss at their shop, their shop would have been deserted.

After all, neither Michael nor Christian were people they could mess with.

...

Michael did not take Winnie home immediately. Instead, he took her to the hospital to treat the wounds on her body.

After all, she was injured too.

Then, he took her to the neurologist for a checkup.

The neurologist looked at Winnie’s situation and heaved a sigh. "Mrs. Lucas situation is getting more and more serious," he said.

Hearing the doctor’s words, Michael’s brows furrowed in worry.

"You should try not to trigger her as much as possible," the doctor continued. "You should still take her out for strolls and grant her requests as much as possible. If the situation gets any worse, it might cause a permanent mental breakdown. To put it more simply, she can truly lose her sanity." The doctor explained, "Mrs. Lucas’s current situation can still be managed by relying on medical treatment and emotional relief. There is the possibility for improvement. But if there are any more triggers or subsequent worsening..." The doctor did not finish his sentence, but Michael clearly understood what he was implying.

Turning to look at Winnie, who was sitting silently beside him, Michael felt a headache forming.

After taking Winnie back home, Michael intended to return to the office for work.

Still, once they arrived, Winnie grabbed onto him, not letting him leave.

"Mother, I still have work at the office. I’ll return after work, okay?" Michael tried to sooth her.

Winnie shook her head and grabbed tightly onto his hand with a face full of fear.

"Your father said that too, but he never returned."

At the mention of Anthony, there were tears in Winnie’s eyes.

She was actually a spoiled and pampered princess growing up. She was once cradled in the hands of many people who cared for her. She just had to meet that man, Anthony, who had ruined the later half of her life.

Michael pitied her situation, his heart soft for her, and heaved a sigh.

Michael’s grandmother walked out from inside and saw that Winnie was grabbing onto Michael’s hand. She walked up to them to pull her back and said, "Michael has things to do. Let him go. You can’t keep forcing him to accompany you."

Just then, Michael’s phone rang. Mr York had called. Once the call connected, Michael only gave a simple, "I see," and hung up.

Actually, Michael did not need to pick up this call to know what it was about. He had delayed a meeting to find Winnie.

There were still many people at the office waiting for him to start the meeting.

Taking in a deep breath, Michael could only lie to her. "Mom, I’m going to find dad and ask him to come back, okay?" He said.

"You’re going to find your dad?" Hearing that, Winnie had a smile on her face as she instantly loosened her grip. "Good, good, good. You go find him. I’ll make your favorite dishes while waiting for you both to come back."

Michael actually did not want to lie to Winnie. She was mentally unwell, yet he was still lying to her. But if he did not lie, she would keep holding onto him.

Michael’s grandmother gave him a look, signaling him to leave quickly in order to avoid having Winnie regain her senses and trying to prevent him from leaving again.

Michael sighed again before turning to leave.

Watching the silhouette of Michael’s back, Winnie shouted loudly and happily, "Both of you come back quickly. I’ll go cook now. I’ll be waiting for you both to come back and eat together!"

The voice sounding from behind made Michael miserable and upset.

She used to be perfectly healthy. How had she become like this?

In Michael’s mind, the image of his mother who was, above all else, elegant and noble, uncontrollably flooded his mind.

They initially thought that nothing would happen after Michael left.

They did not expect that Winnie would really go and prepare the dishes she said she would after he went to work.

Not only that, she had made so much. All of which were things that Michael and Anthony liked to eat.

Mrs. Lucas looked at Winnie sitting at the table not letting anyone eat, repeatedly saying that they had to wait for Michael and Anthony to return.

It was heart wrenching.

Heaving a sigh, Mrs. Lucas gave Michael a call in the end. "Michael, if you’re almost done with your matters at work, come back and eat. Your mother is still waiting for you."

"Waiting for me?" Michael was surprised.

It was now already past nine, and Winnie was still waiting for him to return and eat?

After hanging up the phone, Michael rushed home.

What he did not expect was that when he went home, he saw Yonina come.

Towards Yonina, Michael actually could not feel any deep emotions.

To him, Yonina was the same as him. Just a business partner.

But considering both of their connections with Winnie, it had caused awkwardness between Michael and Yonina.

"Mr. Lucas." Seeing Michael, Yonina nodded her head slightly, greeting him politely.

Yonina’s state was not very good. Although she had makeup on, it could not cover up the dark bags below her eyes and her pale face.

It was obvious that Yonina had been giving her all during this time for the Collins Group Organization.

"Ms. Collins." Michael nodded slightly, showing his manners.

"Oh right." Yonina took out an invitation card from her bag and smiled slightly. "I’ve come to give you an invitation. In three days, it will be Christian and my..." She did not finish what she was saying when she smiled sheepishly and started all over again. "In three days, I’ll be hosting a business reception. I wanted to invite you all to attend it."

In three days, she would be hosting what would appear to be a business reception.

In actuality, everyone knew that the Collins Group Organization had agreed to the marriage.

That also meant that the business reception in three days was actually to officially announce to everyone the relationship between the Collins Group Organization and the DR Group.

Pressing his lips into a thin line, Michael hesitated for a moment before he politely took the invitation.

"Alright. I’ll be there," he said, giving a nod.

If he was the Michael from the past, he would not go. Simply for the reason that Christian would be present, and even worse, as the main character.

But now, Michael had learned how to restrain himself and had learned how to be a quiet character.

He was no longer like he was in the past when he would express all his emotions on the outside.

Yonina nodded then gave an invitation card to Winnie. "Mrs. Lucas, please come along too."

"As for my mother..." Michael shook his head and said, "Please don’t mind my mom."

"It’s okay, let Mrs. Lucas come along." Naturally, Yonina knew of Winnie’s condition.

"Mrs. Lucas has always liked me quite a lot and I like her a lot, too. So let her come."

"I want to go!" Winnie instantly accepted the invitation card and very happily took Yonina’s hand. "I want to go to Yonina’s reception," she said.

"Mother, you..." Michael had not had the chance to say anything else when Winnie’s face darkened and she shouted, "I don’t care. I just want to go! I just want to go."

Seeing that Winnie’s current state was a little off, Michael did not dare to say anything more.

The doctor had just said to follow her wishes.

Regardless, even if he had agreed to let her go now, she might forget about this matter in three days anyways.

So Michael went along with her and spoke with a smile, "Alright alright alright. We’ll go together then."

"Mm hmm." Winnie instantly nodded happily.

"Then I won’t disturb you anymore. Goodbye." Yonina smiled slightly, nodded, then turned to leave.
