Chapter 257: I’ve Already Made Up My Mind
Timothy put down his utensils, stopped smiling while eating, and said with a determined expression on his face, "Mr. Lucas, I know you can’t let go of your wife. I don’t want to break you up either, but I can’t help it. If I can’t convince Corrine to return to HG this time, I won’t be able to serve as president much longer."
"It’s that serious?" Wendy had never thought that this matter would affect Timothy’s position as president.
HG had been in his hands for so many years. The company’s performance had always been on the rise.
He was going to be dismissed from his position because of such a small matter?
When Timothy heard Wendy’s words, he sighed and bowed his head slightly, and said, "I know, you must think I’m exaggerating. You are not a businessman, and from the beginning, you were just a good designer. You don’t know that in the business world, profit is always more important than friendship. HG looks like it has been developed in my hands, but those directors don’t think so.
"The president is also known as the executive president. Do you know why the word executive was added? Because it is only the executive of the board and does not have absolute power.
"I’m not like Mr. Lucas, who owns a large share of the company, and he alone is in charge of all things at MC. The directors will only think that the previous development was made possible by their money and connections. And if I can’t do this now, they will only think that I am not capable."
Wendy smiled and turned her head to look at Michael with mixed feelings.
Timothy continued, "Corrine, I’m begging you to go back for three months, okay? Three months is nothing to you. You get the new project on track, and then you can come back to Lake City without anyone stopping you."
"Are you worried that HG won’t let you go after three months?" Timothy stretched out a few fingers and swore, "Don’t worry. As long as you get the new project on track, and if the board of directors goes back on its word at that time, I will voluntarily resign from the position of president. And I will also ensure that you leave Rheinsville City."
In fact, when Timothy came to Lake City in person, Wendy already had an idea in her mind.
She simply could not refuse her lifesaver again and again.
When Michael saw Wendy’s hesitation with her head down, he had a bad feeling in his heart.
He reached under the table and took Wendy’s hand, turned his head to look at Timothy, and said, "Mr. Woods, why do you have to be so hard on me? You know, I’m not short of money, and I don’t need Wendy to make money. If you are really removed as president by HG because of this matter, I can set up a new design company, and you will be in charge."
"Mr. Lucas, HG has sort of made me who I am, and there’s no way I’m going to renege if I can’t finish HG’s mission." Timothy was actually saying this to Wendy.
Michael opened his mouth and was about to say something else when Wendy finally said, "I’m going back to HG."
"Wendy!" Michael was afraid that Wendy would say yes and lowered his voice to say, "Rheinsville City is so far from Lake City, so what will happen to the two kids if you go back? Do you want to take them away from and they don’t see their dad, or will they stay and not see their mom?"
"It’s only three months." Wendy forced a smile and patted the back of Michael’s hand in reassurance as she said, "Three months will soon pass."
"But... "
Michael wanted to say something else, but Wendy just looked at him with a smile and said, "I’ve already made up my mind."
Michael knew Wendy well.
The more she smiled, the more determined she was.
"I knew you wouldn’t stand by and watch my career go down the drain." Timothy was very happy and stood up excitedly. He reached out and took Wendy’s hand, his old face a little flushed because of the wine.
Holding Wendy’s hand, Timothy shook it a few times and said, "I didn’t train you for nothing, and I didn’t save you for nothing."
Timothy certainly did not save her for no reason.
HG had more than doubled its market value thanks to the several clothing collections Wendy had designed in the previous years. If not for the benefits Wendy brought to HG, Timothy’s position as president would have been unstable long ago.
Of course, it was no coincidence that he saved her back then...
"Thank you," Timothy nodded his head to express his gratitude to Wendy.
When Wendy saw him like this, she felt more and more guilty and said, "Timothy, don’t say that because you saved the three of us and trained me. I should have promised to go back to HG from the beginning, but I was selfish and bothered you to make the trip."
"It’s good that you agreed to go back. It doesn’t matter that I made this trip," Timothy said happily.
At this moment, Timothy was excited, Wendy was torn and guilty, and Michael was full of anger.
Wendy reached under the table to take Michael’s hand, but he shook her off.
"Then you guys eat, and I’ll go call the headquarters." Timothy looked around for his phone and asked, "I can use the balcony, right?"
"Yeah," Wendy nodded her head.
After Timothy found the phone, he went to the balcony to make the call.
The atmosphere in the living room was getting gloomy.
"Don’t be angry." Wendy bit her lip and said without daring to look Michael in the eye. "I know you don’t want me to go back to HG, but Timothy is here in person. You want me to watch as he is removed from his position as president?"
"Let’s not talk about whether he lied to you about this. Even if it’s true, I said I could set up a new design company and give him full authority to take care of it. I can also give HG compensation and whatever. Why do you have to go back?"
Michael’s tone was full of anger as he said, "I really don’t understand. You’re not the only talented designer at HG, so what project is it that requires you?"
"Do you think that I am easily replaceable?" Wendy said casually.
"That’s not what I meant." Michael explained, "I just think that the deal I agreed to give HG is a much better deal than you going back."
"Michael, I know you’re willing to compensate HG, but your compensation is nothing but money." Wendy held Michael’s hand with a deliberately softer tone of voice as she persuaded him, "I know you have money and you don’t care how much the compensation needs to be. But you are still competing with DR for the market. Even if I can’t help you, do I have to be a burden to you? Have you thought about the fact that I actually don’t want you to lose a large amount of money for nothing because of me?"
"Money is never something you need to think about, Wendy." When he heard Wendy say that, Michael felt that he was useless.
At this kind of time, Wendy couldn’t even rely on him wholeheartedly, and still thought of relieving his burden.
"But I can’t stop thinking about it." Wendy said, "Timothy has not only saved my life but also rebuilt it. No matter which way I look at it, there’s no reason for me to refuse to go back to HG."
"You’ve just made up your mind that you must go back, haven’t you?"
Michael looked into Wendy’s eyes, and although he already knew the answer, he still wanted to hold on to a little more hope.
