Chapter 253: Is This Okay?

Three days later, Timothy called Wendy again.

When she saw Timothy’s caller ID, Wendy was a bit panicked.

Last time, Michael told her very clearly that he would rather let Wendy quit than let her go back.

Because of this matter, Wendy still felt a deep sense of guilt towards Timothy.

When he called again this time, Wendy didn’t know what the final decision would be on his end.

When she answered the phone, Wendy spoke first with respect, "Timothy... "

"Corrine... " Timothy sighed on the other end of the phone and said in a helpless tone, "Mr. Lucas called me last time and you should know that. I called another meeting of the board of directors after I returned. There is no other way. The board still thinks you are the most suitable candidate.

"But I also tried to help you as far as possible, but the board’s final decision is to let you come back first to bring the new project to the right track, and then you can go back to MC.

"Do you think that’s okay?"

"Is there no room for negotiation?" Wendy still wanted to give it a try.

"Corrine, don’t make things difficult for me." Timothy sighed again and said, "You know I don’t make the decisions at HG, and I’ve tried to help you as much as I could.

"You can’t just stop taking the company seriously now that you’ve gotten closer to Mr. Lucas.

"I also know that Mr. Lucas is not short of money, but it’s not all about money.

"On HG’s board, I don’t have a lot of shares, and now the board has taken a step back.

"If I go against the board again, I’m afraid my position in HG will not be secure.

"Now you just have to come back to HG and bring the project on the right track.

"When the time comes, you will still be responsible for the cooperation on the MC side.

"You will just come back for a period of time, about three months or so. If things go well, it may take less than three months.

"Corrine, you can’t be reluctant to leave for two to three months, right?

"I haven’t seen you for a long time either, so just think of it as coming back to see me, okay?"

As soon as Michael entered Wendy’s office, he saw her on the phone looking a little upset.

He guessed who the caller was and reached out to grab the phone and said, "Mr. Woods, didn’t we talk about this before that I could make up for any compensation HG wants, but Wendy won’t go back?"

Michael’s firm tone made Timothy very frustrated on the other end of the phone.

He said, "Mr. Lucas, give the phone to Corrine. I want to talk to her."

"Just talk to me." Michael said, "Wendy already has gratitude and guilt towards you, so you can’t use that to play the emotional card with her."

"I... " Timothy’s tone got increasingly sullen.

After several moments of silence, there was no sound on the other end of the phone.

Michael simply hung up the phone.

Wendy’s eyes were slightly downcast, and her mood wasn’t very good as she said, "It’s not good for us to be like this. Timothy said that I would just go back and get the new project on track first."

"That was a lie to get you back first." Michael said, "Now he’s saying that, but who knows if he’ll find someone to take over later. What will you do if he says he doesn’t have the right person?"

Wendy had thought about this possibility, which was why she didn’t agree with Timothy.

But Wendy also felt guilty for breaking Timothy’s heart because of this matter.

"Don’t worry so much." Michael reached out, put his arm around Wendy’s shoulders and said, "Let’s go eat first."

On Friday night, Wendy received a call from Mary.

"Mom, are you feeling well lately?" Wendy asked her with concern.

"I’m fine." Mary laughed and said, "It’s the weekend. You’re too busy to come back,

so I thought I’d come to Lake City to see you. It’s convenient."

When she heard Mary say she was coming, Wendy stood up happily and said, "I’ll send someone to pick you up."

"No, I’ve bought a ticket for tomorrow morning." Mary said, "I’ll be at the train station at 10:10 a.m. tomorrow."

"Then I’ll pick you up tomorrow," Wendy immediately answered.

Wendy didn’t expect Mary to come to Lake City. She was afraid that Mary wouldn’t come because of the trouble.

"Is Grandma coming tomorrow?" Leah tilted her head and said excitedly, "Tomorrow I’m going to pick up Grandma too."

Wendy stroked Leah’s head and said, "Okay, mummy will take you to pick up grandma tomorrow."

Mary arrived at the station at ten minutes past ten, and it was a half hour drive from Wendy’s place to the train station.

So, Wendy got up before nine in the morning.

Michael was going to work overtime at the office today, but when he heard that Mary was coming, he put his job on hold and drove Wendy to the station himself.

The four members of the family were waiting for Mary’s arrival with great anticipation.

When it was finally 10:10, Wendy saw Mary dragging a suitcase towards her.

Wendy waved and said, "Mom, this way."

Mary saw them and quickened her pace.

"What are you all doing here?" Mary smiled and said with some surprise, "If I had known you all were coming to pick me up, I wouldn’t have told you. I would have called you when I arrived."

"Mom, what are you talking about?" Michael reached for Mary’s suitcase, and when she moved her hand, Michael said, "Give it to me, Mom, I’ll carry it."

Mary said, "No, no, it’s not heavy to drag around."

Wendy said, "Give it to him, Mom." Wendy was amused to see the two of them being polite here.

Mary didn’t insist anymore and gave the suitcase to Michael.

Wendy said, "Stay in Lake City for a few more days this time. I’ll take you around to have a good time."

Wendy took Mary’s hand and said, "There are many interesting places in Lake City that you have never been to before, so you should stay here for a few more days."

"I have class on Monday. I bought tickets for tomorrow afternoon, so I’ll be back tomorrow." Mary reached out and took Leah and said, "I just came to see if you’re feeling better and to see Leah and Jake."

Wendy said, "You’re going back tomorrow?" Wendy was a little reluctant.

She was about to say something else when her phone rang.

The smile on Wendy’s face instantly faded when she saw the caller ID, which was Timothy.

When Mary saw that Wendy was hesitant to answer the phone, she said, "It’s okay, you guys should just go about your business. I just came to see you and there’s nothing else."

"Then I’ll take the call." Wendy slowed down a bit.

Once the call was answered, Wendy said, "Timothy... "

"Corrine, I’m at the airport. Come pick me up if it’s convenient for you. If not, tell me your address and I’ll come find you," Timothy’s words came through the phone.

Wendy said, "You’re at the airport?" Wendy was completely confused when she heard this.

Why was Timothy at the airport? Wasn’t he still in Rheinsville City yesterday?
