Chapter 235: Time To Take Her Back

Wendy had set her alarm clock, and the next day, woke up on time.

Since she had decided to go back to work, she would not allow herself to lose any sense of time.

After breakfast, Wendy changed her clothes and put on her makeup before grabbing her bag and planning to leave.

Michael came out of the bedroom with a glass of water and pills, just like yesterday, and walked over.

As she looked at the medication handed to her, Wendy’s eyes darkened for a moment.

Yesterday, she spat out the medicine because she didn’t want to regain her memory.

Today, she knew that she had taken the medicine that inhibited recovering her memory for a month straight and couldn’t recover anymore.

"Take your medicine first, and then we’ll go to the office," Michael said.

Looking at Michael’s concerned look and listening to his gentle tone, Wendy, however, only saw some irony.

What was the point of letting her take the medicine when it was changed, and she knew there was no way she could regain her memory? Was it a superficial gesture to make her appreciate that Michael cared so much about her?

With a sullen expression, Wendy directly reached out and took the pills before throwing them in the trash can and said, "I’m not taking them."

As Michael watched Wendy proceed without the slightest hesitation, sadness flashed across his eyes.

After talking to Jill on the phone yesterday, Michael had guessed a little.

Now that he saw that she wouldn’t take her medication, it became clearer and clearer to Michael.

It seemed that she was refusing to take her medication because she knew he had changed it before.

When Michael saw how resistant Wendy was, he didn’t pressure her.

The reason she took the memory recovery medicine was that she wanted to recover sooner.

Now that Michael had replaced the medicine that inhibited recovery, then slowly, she would remember some things later.

"Then let’s go to the office." Michael put the cup of water on the table, then took Wendy’s hand and headed out.

Wendy was a little resistant.

Michael knew he had done something wrong with the medication change earlier, and he could understand Wendy being angry when she found out.

So, for the next few days, Michael treated Wendy better than before.

The employees of the company, who gossiped every day over meals, talked about Michael and Wendy.

They all envied Wendy for having a man who loved her so much, and this man was Michael.

Wendy could also feel Michael’s kindness to her. But there was always a wound in her heart that made it difficult for Wendy to let go.

The eight years of memories that Michael said she couldn’t remember could never be recovered.

That day, Michael handed Wendy the medicine again and said, "I know you want your memory back, and I said I would help you. So, take the medicine first, then I’ll bring you to a place that might help you regain your memory.

Wendy looked into Michael’s eyes, which were sincere and passionate. For a moment, Wendy wanted to believe what he said.

Picking up the pill, Wendy put it in her mouth under Michael’s eyes.

Michael handed over a glass of water. Wendy took it, tilted her head back, and swallowed the medicine with water.

Michael smiled with relief as he watched Wendy finish her medication.

Fortunately, after these days of reprieve, she began to trust him again.

This was the reason why Michael did not ask Wendy to take the medicine first and then help her recover her memory.

Only when Wendy slowly let go of her defenses against him could Michael get closer to Wendy’s heart. And now, it was time to take her back.

Regardless of whether going back and Wendy seeing everything she used to be familiar with could stimulate her to recover her memory, and regardless of what Wendy’s choice was after recovering her memory, Michael was ready to accept it.

In Michael reached for the glass of water Wendy was holding and then placed it on the table.

Taking her hand, Michael grabbed the car keys and headed out.

Once in the car, Michael helped her fasten her seat belt, turned his head, looked at her with a smile and said, "Are you ready?"

Wendy didn’t really know what Michael was going to do or where he was going to take her. But looking at Michael’s passionate eyes, Wendy subconsciously nodded her head.

Somehow, Wendy was in a somewhat apprehensive mood.

The two of them did not speak along the way. The car drove slowly to a neighborhood. The neighborhood seemed to be an ordinary one and was a bit far from the city.

As soon as she stepped into the neighborhood, Wendy felt some familiarity.

Michael held her hand tightly and went into the elevator.

To be able to take the initiative to bring Wendy back here, Michael also went through a great change of heart.

When the elevator doors opened, Michael took a deep breath and led her to the place where they used to live.

Taking out the key, Michael handed it to Wendy and, with a serious and deep gaze, said, "You can open it."

Wendy looked down at the key in front of her and suddenly, for a moment, she wanted to run away from this place.

Although she did not know where this place was, the sense of familiarity surrounded Wendy. And this familiarity inexplicably made Wendy panic in fear.

She knew that walking through this door might remind her of something. And once she did remember, she knew very well that there was no way to get along with Michael like before.

No...

Wendy frowned slightly. She had been taking memory suppressants for a month straight, so there was no way she could regain her memory.

Where did this sense of familiarity come from?

And so far, apart from the sense of familiarity, Wendy didn’t recall anything else.

Wendy thought, was it because she had taken the memory suppressant medicine for a month that she had a sense of familiarity but couldn’t remember?

"Wendy?" Michael saw Wendy lost in thought and passed the keys a little more in front of her.

"I... " Wendy swallowed. Suddenly, she turned around and walked out to the outside and said, "I don’t want to go in."

Wendy had always wanted to recover her memory, but she knew that she had no chance of recovering it.

Instead of this, it would be better not to go in. Otherwise, the feeling of familiarity, but not being able to remember, like in the neighborhood, would be even more unbearable.

And Michael knew this so, he brought her here, right?

Michael took Wendy’s hand because he thought Wendy was afraid. But how could he not be afraid?

After taking a deep breath, Michael put the key directly into her hand and said with some encouragement, "Go in and look around. You can’t run away for life."

"Why not?" Wendy looked at Michael and said with some bitterness in her voice, "Aren’t you just going to let me escape for the rest of my life? Why do you want to bring me here now?"

"At first, I did not want you to recover your memory. I admit that it was selfish of me." Michael bowed his head slightly and apologized sincerely, "I was always guilty before, and often dreamed that you would leave me and Lake City with the baby after you recovered your memory.

"I wanted to keep you with me. I thought that as long as you couldn’t remember, there would be no barrier between us.

"But then I learned that I couldn’t continue to do that. Memories are a part of being human and something you should have.

"The guilt crushed me every day as well, and I want you to have the right to make up your own mind on whether you can remember or not."

"Michael... " Wendy looked at him and suddenly snorted with laughter as she said, "I know all about it. You don’t have to put on a show in front of me. You can’t fool me anymore. You obviously don’t want me to remember, so why pretend?"
