Chapter 228: I Believe You

"I can’t help you if you don’t tell me the truth." Grandmother stood up with the help of her cane.

In Grandmother’s opinion, Winnie had landed herself in her current state partially because of her own doing even though Anthony had wronged her.

They had all tried to convince Winnie several times to divorce the man.

Now that Michael and Isabel were already so old, both of them knew very well the kind of person Anthony was.

The children would definitely not acknowledge him as their father when Winnie divorces him. But Winnie refused to get a divorce, which was what landed her in her current predicament.

Of course, Grandmother did not think that Anthony was right to cheat on Winnie. In fact, Grandmother was rather disappointed in her useless son.

It was a pity that she was already rather old and could not control what Anthony does.

"Mom, do you think I am wrong as well?" Winnie cried obstinately, her eyes filling with disappointment. "Anthony was the one who cheated on me. He had let me down and let our family down. But why are all of you rebuking me instead?"

Grandmother looked into Winnie’s eyes and sighed.

She picked up her cane and stood up before walking outside slowly.

She said as she walked away, "I will do my best to get Anthony to leave without taking a single cent from the marriage if you decide to divorce him. The Lucas family will still be your family."

Winnie was too stubborn. She would not listen to anyone.

She did not understand that there was no one who could help her.

Grandmother left the house and heard screaming and yelling coming from behind her.

She could only sigh.

Michael and Wendy returned home.

They lay in bed and Michael looked up at the ceiling. He sighed and asked, "Wendy, do you feel that I have wronged you because of what I have done today?"

Wendy knew what Michael was talking about.

She shook her head and smiled faintly. "Auntie is your mother. You probably feel more upset than I do. If you really send her to the police station because of me, you would feel guilty all your life."

"Thank you, Wendy." Michael wrapped his arm around her waist and pressed her head into her chest. "I will not let my mom hurt you again in the future."

"I believe you." Wendy stretched out her hand to pat Michael’s head and comforted him gently.

What Winnie had done had not hurt Wendy, but rather her own son, Michael.

Michael was very upset and disappointed.

The next day, Michael woke up early.

Leah smiled happily when she saw her daddy and tugged on his shirt, saying, "Daddy, will you send Jake and me to kindergarten later?"

Wendy had just woken up and was going to wash up when she heard what Leah had said. She smiled and said, "Leah, Daddy is busy with work. Mommy will take you two to kindergarten, okay?"

"Yeah!" Leah clapped her hands but the smile on her face faded. "But Mommy, can’t you and Daddy send us to kindergarten together?"

"Sure, Daddy and Mommy will send you two to kindergarten together." Michael looked at Leah’s tiny face and his heart melted.

When he thought of what Winnie had done yesterday, he still felt a little afraid.

Fortunately, he had discovered that something was wrong. Otherwise, he could not imagine what would have happened.

Michael would never forgive himself if his adorable son and daughter were injured.

Wendy looked at Michael. Even though she scolded him, she sounded happy as she said, "You shouldn’t give in to her all the time."

"She is my only daughter. Who am I going to spoil if not her?" Michael carried Leah to the chair and gave her a bowl of oatmeal. "Eat your breakfast, darling. Daddy and Mommy will send you to kindergarten together later."

"Yay. I will eat it right now." Leah saw Jake approaching and immediately waved at him.

"Jake, hurry up! Come and eat breakfast."

Jake looked at Wendy and Michael when he saw how happy Leah was.

When he saw that their relationship seemed to have improved, he heaved a sigh of relief. Leah might not have noticed the estranged relationship between Michael and Wendy recently, but Jake had naturally noticed.

After breakfast, Michael picked up his car keys and was about to leave.

Wendy suddenly thought of something and said to him, "Hold on, I haven’t taken my meds yet."

Michael’s smile froze when he heard Wendy talk about her medication.

Fortunately, Wendy had turned around to go to the room and did not notice his expression.

Wendy went to her room and reached out for the drawer.

There were four kinds of medicine, and the dosage for each kind was different.

Wendy took out the appropriate dosage according to what her doctor had told her.

"Hurry up, Mommy. We are going to be late!" Leah shouted from outside.

Leah’s voice made Wendy feel rather hurried. Her hand shook and the medication rolled out of the bottle.

A few pills rolled onto the ground.

Wendy put the medicine in her mouth and swallowed the pills with water.

After putting the medicine back in the drawer, Wendy knelt down and picked up the pills on the floor before tossing them in the bin.

Then, she hurriedly left the room. She held Leah’s hand with a smile and the family of four left for the kindergarten.

After sending the children to school, Wendy said to Michael, "You are going to the office, aren’t you? I can just hail a cab from here."

Micahel’s work was so busy and he had already fallen behind by quite a bit because of Winnie.

"I shall send you home first." Michael could not bear for Wendy to hail a cab and go home by herself.

Wendy wanted to say something, but Michael had already opened the car door for her.

Wendy smiled and did not say anything else. She got into the passenger’s seat.

Michael was silent on the way back. He suddenly asked, "Wendy, do you really want your memory back?"

Wendy blinked when she heard his question. She smiled lightly and said, "I think there is no one in this world who would want to not be able to remember anything to do with oneself. Memories are part of us. What I have lost, are eight years worth of memories. How many eight years are there in life?"

"That’s true..." Michael gripped the steering wheel tightly. He realized, for the first time, how selfish he had been. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

He turned to look at her, his tone light and relaxed. "I will help you."

"Help me?" Wendy pointed in front of them, sounding a little panicked. "Drive safely."

Michael turned back to look at the road before him.

Wendy had felt really conflicted when Michael had turned to look at her.

She did not know whether she should remember all those memories.

Michael, Winnie, Grandmother, and Zen’s attitudes made Wendy sure that those memories might ruin the peaceful and blissful life that she and Michael shared right now.

If she insisted on recovering her memories but could not accept the consequences, what should she do?

But there wasn’t anyone in this world who would not want their own memories. She would feel like a fool if she did not recover those memories.

Forget it, it was not like she could recover her memories just because she wanted to anyway.

She would rethink this when she regained her memories.
