Chapter 209: What’s Wrong With Mommy Today?

Winnie did not talk anymore about the past, and Wendy felt awkward to continue asking.

However, Wendy was no longer in the mood for her beauty treatment.

After their full-body spa, the beautician gently said, "Ms. Stewart, for your facial treatment, you’ll have to go to another room."

The beautician handed Wendy a towel and said, "I’ll bring you there now."

Wendy wrapped herself with the towel and asked Winnie, "Aren’t you going with me?"

"I’m not doing the same treatment course as you," Winnie replied. "I want to get rid of my wrinkles, so we’ll be in different rooms. You can go ahead."

Wendy nodded, not suspecting anything.

The beautician brought Wendy into another room and asked her to lie down on the bed. Wendy did what she was asked to do.

"I’ll put a moisturizing face mask on you first. After that, I’ll use our equipment to do a facelift for you," the beautician explained.

"Okay, thank you," Wendy replied.

After putting a face mask on Wendy’s face, the beautician also placed a warm eye mask over her eyes. "You may close your eyes and have a good rest here," the beautician said gently. "I’ll prepare the equipment for your treatment."

Wendy had just finished a full-body massage, and now she had a warm eye mask on.

She started to feel sleepy.

In a few minutes, she became less aware of her surroundings.

While Wendy was half asleep, she heard the equipment humming as well as the sound of someone walking about.

Wendy did not know how much time had passed when the beautician removed her face mask and started operating the facelift machine.

By the time Wendy and Winnie had completed their entire treatment, it was already six o’clock.

"Look at the time. I don’t think we’ll be able to shop much. Shall we meet again another day?" Winnie asked.

Wendy immediately agreed and asked, "Did you come here on your own or did the chauffeur send you here? Shall I drive you home?"

"The chauffeur sent me here. You must drive carefully." Winnie smiled as she waved at Wendy.

The two ladies parted ways, and Wendy drove her car home.

The moment she reached home, Wendy started thinking of what Winnie had said to her.

She was so engrossed in her thoughts that she did not hear Leah calling her.

"Mommy, Mommy..." Leah climbed onto Wendy’s legs and shook her with her little hands.

"What?" Wendy snapped out of her trance. She reached out and pulled Leah into her arms.

"What’s the matter?" she said with a smile.

"Mommy, what were you thinking about?" Leah frowned. "I had called you so many times."

"Nothing." Wendy shook her head. "How was school today?"

"Our teacher taught us a dance." Leah beamed with pride as she talked about it. "I finally have something that I am better than Jake. Our teacher also praised me for dancing well."

"You are wonderful," Wendy commended her. "Could you dance for me?"

"Okay." Leah climbed off Wendy and ran to drag

Jake out of his room. Jake looked reluctant.

While watching Leah and Jake move and twist their bodies, Wendy clapped happily.

Leah had danced quite well. As for Jake, Wendy knew why he was indisposed.

Just then, Michael had come home. He saw the two children dancing and felt that all his busyness from the day was worth it. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Wendy’s smile slowly disappeared when she saw Michael.

Michael walked over and sat down next to Wendy. He wrapped his arm over her shoulder and asked, "Look at how well our daughter dances. What do you think of sending her to a dance class or something?"

Wendy lowered her head and blinked. Pushing away Michael’s arm, she nodded slightly. "Um," she said.

Her actions showed that something was not right.

Michael turned and carefully examined her. Concerned, he asked worriedly, "What’s wrong?"

"Nothing." Wendy forced a smile.

She stood up abruptly, reached her hand out to Leah, and said, "Leah, let me read you a bedtime story, okay?"

"Okay! Yeah!" Leah did not notice anything amiss in her mother. She happily took Wendy’s hand and walked to her bedroom.

Michael and Jake were left behind in the living room.

Michael frowned and asked Jake, "What’s wrong with Mommy today?"

Jake pouted and shook his head.

He had been at school all day. When he got home, Wendy seemed to be a little down but nothing appeared to have happened.

Michael wondered if it was because he had stopped her from working recently and she felt bored.

He looked at Wendy sitting on Leah’s bed, animatedly reading to her a bedtime story, and decided not to interrupt.

After washing up, Michael headed back to his room and waited for Wendy to return.

Leah had finally fallen asleep, so Wendy tiptoed quietly out of her room.

She saw her bedroom lights were still on, and she was contending with mixed feelings in her heart.

No matter what Winnie’s motives were for telling her all that, Wendy could not deny that she was affected by what she had heard.

She had a black spot in her memory. Now that she knew about Michael’s horrible past, she found it rather difficult to accept.

What was most important was that since Wendy suffered from amnesia, Michael had been treating her well, so well that Wendy could not see any flaw in him, not to mention if it were a question of principles.

However, she would not fully believe what anyone said before she regained her memory.

Wendy took a deep breath to calm herself and entered the room.

Michael was on the bed waiting for her. When he saw her enter, he shifted to make space for her and patted the bed.

Wendy sat on the bed and smiled, though her smile looked forced.

"Wendy, are you feeling bored at home?" Michael spoke, sounding concerned. "I didn’t mean to force you to stay at home and do nothing all day. It’s because you aren’t well. If you really feel bored from having nothing to do, I’ll take leave tomorrow and spend time with you. What do you think?"

"It’s alright," Wendy said, turning her head to glance at him. His familiar yet unfamiliar face caused her to panic a little. She smiled and said, "You should go to work. I can take care of myself."

"Wendy..." Michael seemed to have more to say.

Wendy lay down on the bed and pulled the covers over her chest. "It’s late," she said calmly. "You should go to sleep."

Michael’s heart was even more troubled when he saw Wendy go to sleep.

He could sense that Wendy was not alright.

"Wendy..." Michael wanted to continue the conversation. He did not want her to hide anything from him. "Did something happen today? Could you tell me about it? I might not be able to help you, but two heads could be better than one."

"It’s really nothing." Wendy had only heard about Michael’s past from Winnie. How was she supposed to bring it up to him?

She could not possibly ask how many women he had been with before. She only wished to recover all her memories as soon as possible.
