Chapter 208: Could You Tell Me More About Michael?
There was no one else in the elevator, so Wendy stood in one corner to avoid being close to him.
Thankfully, the man did not make any unreasonable move. Wendy heaved a sigh of relief.
She quickly stepped out of the elevator the moment the doors opened. She ordered her meal and waited for the food to be bagged.
The man walked past her and sat at another table.
Wendy saw him sit alone, without anyone around him.
’Isn’t he here to meet a friend? Or has his friend not arrived yet?’
Whichever it was, after what happened yesterday, Wendy’s guard went up when near that man.
As long as he did not do anything funny, Wendy just needed to be more cautious. But if he made any crazy move again, Wendy decided that she would report him to the police.
The restaurant was not crowded at this time of the day, so she did not have to wait too long for her order.
She took her takeout and left the hotel.
The man did not seem to be following her. Wendy drove to the beauty salon to find that Winnie was already there.
"Thank you, Wendy," Winnie smiled at Wendy when she saw her bring food over.
"I’m starving," she said as she dragged Wendy over to the sofa. "Let’s eat together. This restaurant’s food is really good."
"No, thank you. I’ve already had lunch, and I’m not hungry," Wendy replied.
"I ordered enough for two. Why don’t you try a little?" Winnie took out the forks and handed one to Wendy. She also took some food out and placed them in front of Wendy.
Wendy found it hard to reject Winnie’s offer and so ate a few mouthfuls.
Winnie had only eaten a little when she put down her fork. Wendy saw that and asked, "Is that all you’re eating?"
That did not seem like someone who was starving.
Winnie looked at Wendy’s bewildered face and laughed. "It’s past lunchtime, so while I am very hungry, I can’t really eat more than a few bites," she explained.
"Let’s not eat now. Let’s get our facial done, shall we?"
She pulled Wendy’s hand enthusiastically and led her to a VIP room.
Winnie was a regular customer here, whereas Wendy hardly came to such places. She was not rich. Even after she had married Michael, she was still barely able to make ends meet and definitely could not afford such luxury. But after she had gone to Rheinsville City, she threw herself into work. Whatever spare time she had was spent with her children, so she did not have the time to enjoy stuff like this.
Lying on the bed, the beautician massaging her entire body, Wendy felt quite relaxed.
No wonder so many people loved going to the beauty salon. It was indeed very comfortable.
"Do you feel relaxed?" lying on the next bed, Winnie asked Wendy.
"It is quite relaxing."
"That’s good. If you feel uncomfortable anywhere, or don’t like this beautician, you can request for another one."
"This isn’t bad."
"Women should treat themselves better," Winnie said with a sigh. "You shouldn’t keep working so hard. I heard that you collapsed a few days ago. Leave the work to Michael to deal with them. We women should simply eat and drink, shop, and go for beauty treatments. Look at me. I’ve never bothered with any work..."
Winnie’s tone fell as she let out a bitter laugh.
"Forget it, let’s not talk about me. I could have anything I want but my husband’s heart. I’ve failed as a woman. You shouldn’t listen to me. But all men are the same. This son of mine is no different from his father. You should be on the lookout. Don’t be like me."
On the surface, Winnie sounded like she was trying to dissuade Wendy.
In reality, her words were quite intriguing.
Wendy was naturally able to pick up on the nuances, but she was rather curious. Putting aside all other matters, since Wendy lost her memory, she knew very little about Michael.
Everyone refused to speak about what happened between her and Michael. Even Michael did not say a word about it.
She was certain that Michael must have hurt her in the past, yet Winnie was not a fool.
Everyone around her refusing to speak about their past meant that they approved of Michael’s feelings for her.
That was why Wendy had not probed further.
However, she had lost eight whole years of her memory. Who would not want to remember all of it?
"Did Michael have many women in the past?" Wendy asked.
"Not many. He just had one other lover. That’s where he is just like his father," Winnie sighed.
"Michael almost severed his ties with the Lucas family in order to marry that woman. Although both of you were already married, he tried all sorts of ways to file for divorce. After you became pregnant, he did that for her..."
Winnie blabbered on in one breath before seeming to catch herself. "I’m sorry. I forgot about your amnesia. I thought you had remembered everything, and it slipped out of my mouth."
Then Winnie used her hand to hit her own mouth, her face filled with remorse.
As expected, Winnie’s little speech exploded inside Wendy’s head.
All this time she thought Michael had done something really wrong toward her. So it was all for another woman.
There were a few fragments of memories that floated in Wendy’s mind.
A woman was holding Michael’s hand, smiling sweetly. They walked past her handin-hand.
Then the woman was feeding Michael in front of her.
Wendy closed her eyes; her head started to ache.
She resisted and did not dare to continue recalling.
She was with Winnie at the beauty salon for a spa.
She could not risk having a splitting headache here.
However, Wendy found that she could not control herself. Several memories started to surface in her mind.
"What’s the matter, Wendy?" Winnie heard Wendy moaned. Winnie got off the bed and stood up immediately, with a face full of concern, and walked over to Wendy’s side. "Shall I send you to the hospital?" she asked worriedly.
Wendy’s hands gripped the sheets, cold sweat starting to break out on her forehead.
After a while, she calmed down.
Wendy shook her head. "I’m fine. I have headaches from time to time. It’s an aftereffect of the car accident."
"Oh, I see. I am so sorry, Wendy, I shouldn’t have told you all those things," Winnie apologized again. "I know that everyone has been keeping these from you, to help you and Michael. Both of you have children, and so you should just let go of the past. As for the future, I don’t think Michael will abandon his wife like his father."
Winnie hit her mouth again with her hand.
"Touchwood. Listen to this mouth of mine,
nothing good comes out of it."
"Could you tell me more about Michael?"
Wendy realized that she could only gather more information from Winnie.
Wendy could not decide whether Winnie had said all those deliberately or it was merely a slip of the tongue.
Whichever it was, Wendy really wished to know what happened in the past.
"Well, there really isn’t anything more to say. The two of you are getting along so well now. Isn’t that good?" Winnie had already achieved her goal. If she were to say anymore, her agenda would be too obvious.
