Chapter 161: Wendy, You Can’t Close Your Eyes
While they were speaking, Michael Lucas had already driven his car to a small slope.
The slope was not steep, but it was still better than a flat road.
Michael stepped straight on the brake and slowed the car down.
Wendy Stewart clearly saw it and shook her head as she yelled frantically, "No!"
Wendy stepped rapidly on the brake, but the brake was faulty and long out of use.
There was no choice, Wendy could only follow according to Michael’s way. She turned the steering wheel and the car crashed into the back of Michael’s car.
She grabbed firmly onto the steering wheel and the entire car spun.
Luckily, the car did not overturn sideways.
But the car still did not stop, only slowing down a little.
Wendy grabbed tightly onto the steering wheel to not overturn the car as much as possible.
The car was still advancing forward.
Seeing that, Michael immediately turned the steering wheel, once again driving in front of Wendy’s car, and he said, "The car is a lot slower now, one more time and it’ll do."
"No, Michael, we can’t do it another time."
Wendy’s forehead was already bleeding from the crash, but she was in high focus now, not feeling the pain at all. She said, "Why not you quickly drive and open the gap, then stop your car in the middle of the road, and you get off it?"
Wendy’s method would not hurt Michael.
Michael certainly had not thought of this idea.
However, this way would increase the danger to Wendy.
With Wendy’s car speed, Michael had to speed up to open a huge gap before he would have the time to get off the car. But in this huge gap, it could not be guaranteed that other cars would not appear.
Furthermore, they were now already on the road towards the county, and there would be traffic junctions ahead.
With Wendy’s current situation, it was extremely hard for her to make a turn.
Without turning, it would be easy for an accident to happen when she reached a traffic light.
Michael could only maintain a close distance with Wendy in order to clear the road in front for her.
He did not wish for Wendy to suffer more harm.
Even if it meant that the price was himself.
Michael did not respond to Wendy as his answer would be a rejection.
He drove straight in front of Wendy and slowed down, letting Wendy hit him.
Yvonne Taylor saw this scene from afar and was so angry that she was trembling all over.
Michael was actually risking himself to let Wendy’s car slow down.
With her fingers intertwined tightly, she took out her phone to dial a number, then she said darkly and viciously, "Carry out plan B!"
Finishing, she hung up the phone.
At Michael’s last attempt at reducing Wendy’s speed, he had created a distance and started to move slower.
At that moment, a cargo truck came from a fork in the road by the side.
When Wendy’s car had not hit Michael’s car, the cargo truck hit violently.
Wendy widened her eyes and wanted to turn the steering wheel, but it was too late.
In the next second, Wendy’s car overturned and fell to one side.
Michael heard the noise coming from behind and saw the situation through the rear mirror.
He stepped violently on the brake and exited the car, running frantically towards Wendy’s car.
The cargo truck went straight ahead and away.
Michael did not have the thought of bothering about that cargo truck at that moment. He was only concerned about Wendy and Jake Stewart.
With bloodshot eyes, Michael went to open the car door like he had gone mad.
"Save Jake..." Wendy said it in her last second of fading consciousness.
Michael saw that Wendy’s head was full of blood and she was entirely trapped by the car.
The car door could not be opened.
"Wendy! Wendy, you can’t close your eyes, Wendy, look at me, talk to me, Wendy!"
Michael shouted her name like a madman.
Then, a crowd slowly formed in the surrounding. Someone had already called the police and there was someone who had called ambulance as well.
When Todd Lewis rode in a taxi and rushed here with Leah Lewis, he saw that Michael Lucas was surrounded by a huge crowd.
Michael was sitting on the ground, carrying Wendy Stewart in one hand and Jake Stewart in the other.
The two people were unconscious at that moment.
Michael’s hands were full of blood and his eyes were stoned.
He was frantically yelling Wendy and Jake’s names, attempting to wake them. But they had already lost consciousness. How could they be awoken just by being called?
Michael completely had no way of thinking rationally at that moment.
He carried Wendy up and said helplessly and hopelessly, "I’ll send y’all to the hospital, y’all have to hang on, I’ll send y’all to the hospital immediately!"
Carrying Wendy, Michael strenuously reached out to carry Jake up as well. But he was injured too, so he was not able to carry up two people at all now.
In addition, his current state was not well either.
"I’ve already called ambulance, don’t rush, the ambulance will be coming soon," a kind person said.
Michael had no way of waiting for the ambulance here at all.
Every minute and every second were of the essence to him.
Seeing this scene, Leah started crying out.
Carrying her, Todd buried her head in his shoulders, not letting her see the scene.
His tone was flat and gentle as much as he could, "Little Leah don’t be scared, don’t be scared."
"Mommy, brother..." How could Leah possibly calmly let Todd carry her? She started to struggle and wanted to be put down.
Once Todd was let off Michael’s car, he brought Leah and walked along the road.
He was worried about Michael and Wendy’s situation, and so flagged a taxi on the road and followed them in their direction.
He did not expect the situation would be so serious.
If he had known, he should have taken Leah back to Mary Stewart’s house first.
Swallowing his saliva, Todd did not dare to put Leah down.
He carried Leah tightly as he walked to Michael’s side, lowered his head and asked in a slightly choked tone, "Michael, how’s Corrine and little Jake?"
"They’re fine!" Michael was in a flurry, instantly roaring, "Absolutely nothing will happen to them!"
The surrounding crowd were chattering among themselves.
"The car has overturned, they’re bleeding so much, it doesn’t look good."
"The car is in such a state, I think it’ll be unfortunate!"
Hearing all these ominous words, Michael shot a look across with vicious bloodshot eyes, "You’ll be unfortunate! Shut up! Nothing will happen to Wendy and little Jake!"
Michael’s state made them dare not to chatter loudly anymore.
Quickly, the sirens of the ambulance and police sounded.
The surrounding crowd made way and the ambulance promptly brought the injured people onto the vehicle.
Todd did not dare to put Leah down as she was crying vigorously.
Leah was so young that she had never seen such a scene before.
Let alone the fact that it was her mother and brother who were injured.
"I’m their friend, let me onto the ambulance," Todd said to the paramedics as he carried Leah tightly.
The paramedics took a look at Todd and Leah and nodded.
The sirens of the ambulance sounded, and the vehicle travelled very quickly on the road.
The hospital in the county was not far away, and they arrived in a few minutes.
In the vehicle, Todd had to comfort Leah and reassure Michael as well.
He reached out and patted Michael on the back as he said softly, "Don’t worry, Corrine did not die when she fell into the sea five years ago, she’ll definitely be all right this time too."
Michael held tightly onto Wendy’s hand and wanted to feel the breath at her nostrils multiple times. But he realized that he did not dare to.
He was afraid that the result would be what he could not take.
