Chapter 139: She Didn’t Care
"Jill, call security," Wendy said to Jil.
Wendy didn’t care who Winnie was. Since Winnie was getting violent at her office, she had the right to call security to throw her out.
If things turned ugly, Winnie was definitely going to end up being the embarrassed one.
Jill immediately nodded and took her phone out to start calling security. But Winnie snatched the phone out of Jill’s hand and flung it against the wall, causing it to break into a few pieces on the spot.
"How dare you call security! Wendy Stewart, you’re really shameless!" shrieked Winnie at the top of her lungs.
Winnie had been screaming loudly and making a ruckus right from the start on purpose.
A number of employees had gathered around outside Wendy’s office. None of them dared to go in, but all of them had their eyes and ears wide open.
A reputable member of the influential Lucas family has barged into my office for no reason,
"Screaming and shouting and even got violent. Who’s the shameless one here?" laughed Wendy in return. "I could call the cops on you for what you’ve just done."
"Call the cops? HA!" Winnie took the paternity test report out from her handbag and slammed it onto Wendy’s desk. "Look at this first! Then tell me if you’re the shameless one or not!"
Wendy looked down at the document on her desk and frowned when she saw the words Paternity Test right at the top.
She knew immediately that this had to be a fudged report. Otherwise, Winnie wouldn’t have dared to barge into her office like this.
"Turn to the last page and look at the result!"
Since Wendy wasn’t touching the report, Winnie grabbed it and flipped to the last page herself before shoving it in Wendy’s face. "Look at this! Look at the result! Jake Stewart and Michael aren’t father and son at all!"
Wendy suddenly started laughing when she saw the result.
So that’s why a random bunch of weirdos grabbed at her son’s head without hurting him that day. Winnie was indeed the one behind it.
But Jake was really Michael’s son.
In other words, Winnie had decided to forgo her own grandson because she was determined to get rid of this daughter-in-law. What a vicious Woman!
Winnie was utterly confused by Wendy’s sudden outburst of laughter and asked, "What are you laughing at? How dare you even laugh!"
"Winnie Quinn." This was the first time Wendy was calling her by her full name. "Did you really have to go this far just to deal with me?"
"The results of the paternity test are right here! There’s no way you can wriggle out of this mess now!"
Winnie had been aggressive, but she wasn’t really that confident about convincing Wendy, especially after Wendy suddenly laughed earlier.
After all, this paternity test report had been falsified. So if Wendy took Jake and Michael to get another test done, it would be obvious that she had lied. But Winnie had already thought of the possibility of this happening.
That’s why she purposely created a huge scene at Wendy’s office. That way, Michael would definitely come rushing over in no time.
Wendy would obviously know that Jake was Michael’s but Michael might change his mind after seeing this falsified report. And what Winnie wanted was for Michael to believe that the test that she had done was the real result.
As long as Michael believed her, he wouldn’t care for a second test. That way, nobody would believe Wendy anymore. And once Michael was disappointed in Wendy, she could make arrangements for Michael to meet with Yonina more often and they would eventually end up getting together.
Winnie had already thought of all this after she had made the doctor produce a false report for her the day before.
Meanwhile, all the employees gathered outside Wendy’s office were whispering among themselves.
"Mrs. Lucas came to look for Corrine with a paternity test? What’s going on?"
"You still don’t get it? Mr. Lucas has always thought that Corrine is Wendy Stewart and this Corrine has a son, so she’s probably trying to use this son to become part of the Lucas family. But Mrs. Lucas got the paternity results and has come to confront Corrine about it."
"I’ve never interacted with Mrs. Lucas before, so I can’t say anything about her, but we’ve all interacted with Corrine for some time now and I don’t think she’s that sort of person. Besides, given Corrine’s current social status and personal worth, I don’t think it matters to her if she’s part of the Lucas family or not. On top of that, all of us know very well that it’s the boss who keeps pestering Corrine and Corrine’s the one who has to keep him at a distance at all times."
"You’d never know with all these rich and influential families. Those celebrities who get entangled with these families have plenty of money too, but they still tried all means and ways to marry into such families. For all you know, Corrine’s been playing hard to get or something."
"It’s really hard to comment on such matters since the wealthy have scandals all the time."
Wendy could hear some of the things that the staff outside were saying. She couldn’t hear them in their entirety, but she could pick up a few keywords. But she didn’t take any of those comments to heart. She continued to just stare straight at Winnie.
Winnie was actually beginning to feel a little scared from how hard Wendy was staring at her.
She subconsciously lowered her head and didn’t dare to meet Wendy’s eyes.
Wendy walked closer to her and Winnie started retreating in fear.
A mocking smile appeared on Wendy’s lips as she said slowly, "Winnie Quinn, did you think I’m someone who’s desperate to become part of the Lucas family? Are you stupid? Or are you blind? I’ve never wanted to return to your son’s side right from the beginning! Since you’re capable of pulling so many dirty tricks, then do something about that son of yours"
Wendy’s words seemed like a slap in Winnie’s face.
After taking several steps back, Winnie hit the wall and couldn’t move any further. Wendy raised her chin arrogantly and continued, "This is the first time I’ve come across a grandmother like you. How could you even do something like this? Never mind the fact that this report bears a negative result - even if the result were positive and you came begging for your grandson, I wouldn’t let Jake ever acknowledge you as his grandmother!"
"Oh my god. What’s going on now?"
"I never knew Corrine was this cool. Gosh, I’m a new fan of hers!"
"So this Winnie Quinn came here just to make trouble? She barged into Miss Swift’s office with a paternity test to confront her, but it turns out that Miss Swift never wanted to be her daughter-in-law in the first place? Wow, what a slap in the face!"
"Winnie Quinn thought too highly of herself and thought that all the women in the world would want to become her daughter-in-law, I suppose. But Miss Swift is really brave for standing up to her like this. I wouldn’t have dared to do this."
"You? You’d have been so scared, you’d be kneeling down and serving her tea while calling
Winnie Quinn your mother-in-law by now."
***
Michael was in a meeting when he heard that Winnie had come looking for Wendy in the office.
He knew that his mother was definitely up to no good, so he dismissed the meeting halfway through and headed for Wendy’s office.
By the time he got there, a huge crowd of employees had gathered outside the door.
He squeezed in from behind as he heard their hushed conversations.
Once the staff noticed that Michael was there, all of them quickly shut their mouths and didn’t dare to say anymore.
He looked back at all of them and they ran back to their desks to continue working. But of course, all their eyes and ears were still watching and listening to what was going on inside Wendy’s office.
When Winnie saw that Michael had come, she immediately sat down on the floor and began to cry. "How could you do this? How could you?! Oh, poor, poor me!"
Wendy wasn’t sure whether to laugh or sigh exasperatedly. This woman didn’t look like the well-mannered person she was brought up to be. She looked more like a swindler pretending to be a victim and hoping to cheat you of your money by demanding compensation. But since Winnie had gone from an arrogant and aggressive character to a frail and pitiful one so suddenly, she figured that Michael must have reached her office.
As she had expected, Michael was right at her door.
She really wondered who on earth Winnie had learned to act like that from. If not for the fact that Winnie had always disliked Yvonne, she would have thought that Winnie had learned this from Yvonne.
"Oh, my son, you’re here..." Winnie held a hand out towards Michael and said, "Help me up!"
But Michael didn’t look like he was headed her way. He didn’t move an inch.
Winnie took her hand back a little embarrassedly and got up on her own.
Since Michael was here, she was going through with the rest of her plan.
She pretended to wipe away a tear that didn’t even exist and put on her most aggrieved voice as she said, "Michael, this Wendy Stewart is a really vicious woman. I just said a few things to her and she hit me..."
Wendy folded her arms and just snorted disdainfully.
Jill couldn’t stand Winnie’s lying and explain, "Mr. Lucas, your mother was the one who barged into the office and tried to slap Miss Swift. Miss Swift did not touch your mother at all."
She purposely emphasized the words yours. mother.
Then she pointed at the floor and continued her complaint, "Mr. Lucas, your mother also flung my phone to the floor. Your mother is not an employee of the company, so I could have called the police on her for trespassing and assault, but since she’s your mother, I did not do that."
"Michael, don’t listen to this woman spout nonsense!" said Winnie. "She works for Wendy, so she would naturally speak up for her! They’re ganging up to bully me!"
Michael’s gaze was still fixed on Wendy. He wanted to hear her explain things.
He knew that Winnie definitely had ill intentions coming here, so he didn’t believe anything she said.
To his disappointment, Wendy didn’t say a single word. She didn’t bother explaining things and she didn’t care.
Wendy’s indifference really terrified Michael.
He turned to look at Winnie and tried to hold his anger in as he asked, "Mum, why did you come here to look for Wendy? You’d better give me a reasonable explanation, otherwise, I will not stand on your side even though you’re my mother."
His words disappointed Winnie. He was her son, but he was clearly on Wendy’s side. But that didn’t matter. She had that paternity test result.
She picked up the report and put it in front of Michael. "Michael, do you remember me helping you pluck a few white hairs out the other day? I went to do a paternity test and this is the result. Look..."
Michael looked down at the papers in Winnie’s hands. She even helped him to turn to the very last page where the summary statement was But even after Michael had seen the negative conclusion, there was no change in the look on his face.
"Michael, aren’t you surprised?" Winnie put it closer to him. "Or you didn’t read it carefully? Why don’t you read it again?"
He took the report from her and she thought he was going to read it. But he ended up tearing the report into pieces on the spot.
"Michael! What on earth are you doing?!" asked Winnie in disbelief. "What do you mean by this?!"
