Chapter 721: Chapter 722: Chief Demon Ghost
At this thought, Lin Kuang’s expression turned ugly. If the Demon Sect truly had such a master, it would be a catastrophe for the nation’s experts!
Lin Kuang had never seen a Ninth Layer Ascent master in action, nor did he know how terrifying their strength was. He did know, however, that a Three Flowers Gathering at the Top master was already extremely powerful. In his opinion, even a powerful senior like Diwu Baiyu was probably only at the Five Energies Towards The Origin realm.
If the Five Energies Towards The Origin realm already seemed immeasurably mighty to him, how much more powerful would a Ninth Layer Ascent master be? A headache began to throb in Lin Kuang’s temples at the thought.
Looking at Matsuo Chihe, who was on the verge of death, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but ask another question. "How does your Lord grant you power? And, what is your name?"
"When our Lord grants us power, he gathers us together. It’s a place that resembles an altar, and that’s where he bestows his power upon us. The place isn’t far from here; you’ll see it if you just keep walking forward. Also, my name is Matsuo Chihe," Matsuo Chihe said weakly.
Hearing this, Lin Kuang nodded and ended Matsuo Chihe’s life with a single palm strike. As he died, Matsuo Chihe felt no pain. On the contrary, his face was filled with a look of blissful enjoyment. For him, death was undoubtedly a release.
Lin Kuang stood up and glanced at Blood Asura, who was still meditating to heal his wounds. After a moment’s thought, Lin Kuang set off alone toward the altar-like place Matsuo Chihe had described.
After walking for nearly five minutes, Lin Kuang saw a stone gate. It was over three meters wide, and an ordinary person would have no hope of moving it. He examined it for a moment, then placed both palms on the stone gate and pushed with all his might.
The stone gate ground open a little over a meter, and Lin Kuang stepped inside. The moment he entered, his expression changed. The space was suffused with a thick, cloying aura of darkness and evil.
Lin Kuang frowned, his gaze sweeping across his surroundings. The space wasn’t very large, perhaps twenty meters in diameter. In the center stood a high, square platform, roughly ten meters on each side. On the wall behind the platform was a massive carving: a monstrous snake with eight ferocious heads!
The statue of the snake was terrifyingly lifelike. It had eight heads, sixteen eyes, and a massive body. The sixteen eyes, in particular, seemed to follow him, so vivid it was as if the Yamata no Orochi statue were alive, making Lin Kuang’s skin crawl.
This snake statue is too eerie. Is it really the legendary Yamata no Orochi, or is the Demon Sect just using this terrifying legend to deceive people? Lin Kuang wondered.
Unable to figure it out, he put the thought aside. His gaze swept around the area again. Apart from the snake statue and the high platform, there was nothing else here.
It seems catching their leader is the only way to get more information, he thought with a sense of helplessness.
Lin Kuang turned, left the chamber, and pushed the stone gate shut. Retracing his steps, he returned to Blood Asura, who was still healing.
"Let’s go. We can leave now," Lin Kuang said, looking at Blood Asura sitting on the ground.
Hearing his voice, Blood Asura opened his eyes, ending his cultivation, and nodded.
The two men quickly followed the path back the way they came, leaving the underground space and the Kokusei Shrine behind them.
"We’re heading back," Lin Kuang said.
They departed swiftly. At their pace, they had no need for a vehicle. In the dead of night, they could move even faster than a car.
About ten minutes after Lin Kuang and Blood Asura had left, a black car pulled up in front of the Kokusei Shrine. Two men emerged from the car, both of them Skyline masters. One of them respectfully opened the rear door, and another man stepped out.
This man appeared to be in his thirties or forties, with a stern expression and an icy gaze. An inexplicable aura of authority radiated from him. This was the leader of the Yamata no Orochi organization. In other words, he was Demon Ghost.
"Leader," the two Skyline masters said, bowing with extreme deference.
"Mm. Let’s go," Demon Ghost said with an indifferent nod.
"Yes, Leader."
The two Skyline masters assented and fell in behind him. As the trio walked away, the car sped off into the night.
As the three men walked, they reached the third courtyard from the rear of the complex when Demon Ghost’s stern face shifted. "Someone’s been here. Our people are dead."
His chilling tone startled the two Skyline masters walking behind him.
"Let’s go. We’ll check underground," Demon Ghost said again. He led them into the next courtyard, and sure enough, everyone there was dead as well. When they reached the final courtyard, it was the same story.
Demon Ghost’s already severe expression grew even colder, his features twisting into a faintly fiendish cast. He then went to the room Lin Kuang had entered earlier and triggered the mechanism, revealing the bodies of the two Ninjas lying behind the wall.
"They got in!" Demon Ghost declared.
The next moment, he rushed into the passage, with the two Skyline masters hurrying to keep up.
Upon reaching the underground space, Demon Ghost’s expression became exceedingly grim. Everyone in the subterranean complex, including five Skyline masters, was dead.
"Damn it! They’re all dead! Who did this?" Demon Ghost snarled, his eyes flaring with murderous intent.
The two Skyline masters were so frightened they stood trembling behind him, too afraid to speak.
After a long moment, Demon Ghost let out a slow breath, forcing himself to calm down.
"You two," he said coldly, looking back at them. "Dispose of these bodies and clean up the blood."
"Yes, Leader!" they replied hastily.
Demon Ghost didn’t reply. He simply turned and left. He walked into the chamber with the Yamata no Orochi carving, stopping directly in front of the statue.
The next moment, he leaped into the air, his fingers tapping a rapid sequence on the statue’s eyes before he dropped back to the floor. The moment his feet touched the ground, the Yamata no Orochi statue split in two. It slid open ponderously, revealing a hidden space behind it.
Demon Ghost walked inside, his expression calm. This matter had to be reported to the Lord.
