Chapter 327: Chapter 327: Building a Manor (2)

"Hahaha, I really like your ruthless streak, no need for all that trouble. It’s just a face, wait." As soon as these words fell, the Demon Lord whipped his head around, and a clear, crisp sound echoed in the quiet dungeon. Feng Xuxu looked towards the sound, and Lengqing, who was behind her, moved forward and searched carefully for a long time but found nothing.

"Hehehe, I made that specifically, stop looking, it’s already dissolved." He said kindly, drawing Feng Xuxu’s attention over.

Feng Xuxu lifted her gaze and saw that his features were well-defined, his face firm and resolute, and those handsome eyes shone with an eagle-like sharpness.

"Have we met somewhere before?" She asked, puzzled as she looked at the Demon Lord, feeling like she had seen him before but couldn’t remember when specifically.

The Demon Lord raised an eyebrow and curled up his lips in a slight smile, "Indeed, in a tavern in Zhangzhou Prefecture."

With these words from the Demon Lord, Feng Xuxu suddenly remembered that she had once shared a meal with them at the same table.

"I never expected that you would turn out to be the renowned Demon Lord, the master of the Demon Palace."

"I also never expected that a farmer’s daughter would suddenly become a princess."

Feng Xuxu cast a glance at him and then turned to sit on a chair that had been placed aside, "Let’s cut to the chase, who hired you to kill Jueqing?"

The Demon Lord was taken aback by her question, having thought she would ask why he killed Dugu Chen. He shook his head, utterly unable to fathom her thoughts.

"There are rules in our line of work, never betray the employer."

After hearing his response, Feng Xuxu let out a sarcastic laugh, "It doesn’t matter, even if you don’t tell us, we will find out. It’s just a matter of time."

"Don’t you want to ask who ordered me to kill Dugu Chen?" The Demon Lord narrowed his eyes, puzzled as to why she seemed so indifferent to Dugu Chen’s death.

Feng Xuxu snorted coldly and curled her lip in mockery, looking at him, "Would you tell me if I asked?"

"Others ask, I wouldn’t tell, but if you ask, that’s a different matter," he replied, seemingly oblivious to Feng Xuxu’s mocking expression, engrossed in his own words.

"No need, I already know what I need to know, and what I shouldn’t know, I don’t wish to," she said, slowly standing up. Seeing this man had satisfied her curiosity; the only regret was not finding out who the employer wanting to kill her cousin was. She’d have to see if there were any clues in the information gathered.

The Demon Lord saw her about to leave and, ignoring the pain in his body, struggled violently. Chains made of cold iron bound him, clanging loudly.

Feng Xuxu glanced at him and, holding Lengqing’s hand, had just stepped out of the cell when she heard him call out behind her, "Be careful of the Nangong Aristocratic Family."

Feng Xuxu nodded, not turning back as she walked out.

The Demon Lord watched her leave until she was out of sight, then slowly closed his eyes, recalling last summer, sitting and drinking tea with Nangong Xiu, when he saw her across the street, wearing a yellow dress, her face full of adorable laughter, especially those cunning eyes that left a deep impression.

Although he had claimed to have no interest in her, only he knew that from that single encounter, he had become hopelessly infatuated. Later in the forest, he couldn’t bring himself to kill them, even abandoning his mission to kill Jueqing, forgoing the tens of thousands of silvers he had to repay his employer. When he learned that someone was after Dugu Chen, he wavered, ready to do anything to have her. He had returned to the Demon Palace, gravely injured, only to find it had been eradicated, corpses everywhere. It felt like a sudden bolt from the blue, and he was captured off guard. Those past events, vividly replayed in his mind, were too painful to look back on.

The next day, just after Feng Xuxu had finished breakfast, she heard from a guard that the Demon Lord had died, still with a faint smile on his face.
