Chapter 12: Chapter 12 Lords Of Elaris
Even if Elaris and Draken were on the same continent, Elaris could rival them in terms of military prowess, as they also commanded a large army and the most powerful priests in the entire world.
But now that the power balance had shifted, Elaris still wasn’t in any immediate danger, as a full-scale invasion would be impossible.
"So the Draken Empire sent at least thirty ships and only three arrived, which was enough to carry out their plan... We have to face the fact that a traitor is in our kingdom. The traitor might not be in the council, but someone in the kingdom is working with the Draken Empire." One of the nobles, called Lord Lucian, spoke.
He was the minister of foreign affairs and head of the House of Evermont.
The king stood up the next moment. Aiden could tell he was deep in thought; after all, his kingdom had just been attacked, and the rest of the noble Lords and commanders stood up immediately, and Aiden joined them this time.
"Continue the investigation Commander Gareth. I want our losses to be calculated both military and civilian, Commander Kael. We’ll reconvene in the evening to discuss. Also, Your Holiness, I’d like you to take a look at the rest of the refugees just in case. Would you be able to do that tomorrow?" The king asked politely.
"Of course, Your Majesty," Aiden replied, bowing his head slightly.
"Once again, thank you for healing my son," The king spoke as he walked away.
The knight who gave the news, the same knight who escorted Aiden followed the king as he was the king’s personal guard. Everyone around the table remained standing until the king exited the throne room.
The moment the door closed, the king waved his hands and the knight rushed to his side, "I want you to assemble a team of spies, and investigate every member of the council"
The knight simply nodded and walked away as the king went to visit his son.
As the door to the throne room was shut, the Lords and commanders sat back down on their seats. Among the five lords present, four were discussing among themselves while Commander Kael, the Commander Aiden suspected, rose to his feet and walked away from the table.
"Your Holiness?" A voice called from across the table, Aiden turned to see the elderly noble sitting at the end of the table.
"I’m sure you might not be too familiar with the council members after everything that has happened, I’m very sorry for the loss of your brethren, and the council would work together to make sure something like this doesn’t happen ever again"
Aiden simply nodded, and he continued.
"Allow me to introduce everyone." He first looked toward the man sitting on his right.
"This is Lord Lucian Evermont, Minister of Foreign Affairs and head of House Evermont. He oversees diplomacy and trade with other kingdoms... Currently the only other kingdom we’re in trade with is the elvish kingdom of Troyra"
Lord Lucian turned towards Aiden and bowed slightly. He looked to be in his early forties. He had neatly combed blond hair, sharp brown eyes, and a well-trimmed beard. Even while sitting down, he carried himself with elegance as expected of a lord.
"Lord Theodore Blackwood, Minister of Finance and head of House Blackwood. He manages the kingdom’s treasury and taxes."
Aiden turned towards Theodore. The man was slightly overweight with short brown hair and kind-looking green eyes. He wore expensive rings on almost every finger.
Looking at the expensive rings, Aiden couldn’t help but wonder if this particular lord likes money as little too much.
"Lord Damian Ravenshield, Minister of Justice and head of House Ravenshield"
Lord Damian had neatly combed silver hair and cold gray eyes. He met Aiden’s gaze for only a moment before looking away, his expression never changing. And throughout the talks, the only interjected once.
The elder continued.
"Lord Roland Ashcroft, Minister of Agriculture and head of House Ashcroft. He oversees food production and supplies throughout the kingdom, cities, and villages."
Roland had dark brown hair, a thick beard, and broad shoulders that made him look more like a knight than a noble.
Finally, the elder pointed to himself, "And I am the Chancellor Cedric Ashbourne, head of House Ashbourne. I serve as His Majesty’s chief adviser and oversee the work of the council."
The old man had short white hair, brown eyes, and a calm smile that made him seem approachable despite his position.
He then glanced toward the commander seated as if waiting for his name to be called.
"Commander Gareth over here is the joint leader of the Royal knights and also the joint head of the Knights’ academy, with Commander Kael who left"
Gareth turned towards Aiden flashing a small smile as he bowed his head slightly. He had jet black hair, black eyes, and a handsome face. After Aiden, he was the youngest of the Council members.
"Excuse me," Gareth spoke as he stood up and left.
The Chancellor smiled at Aiden, "The head of the magic academy isn’t currently in the kingdom so you’ll meet her later. Now that introductions are out of the way, I hope working with the council will be much easier."
"Thank you Chancellor," Aiden replied.
"Also, since you’re the kingdom’s only priest, the duty of the Head Priest has been passed on to you. We hope you will fulfill your duties as the leader of the church, and pray that the goddess of light guides you." The Chancellor spoke as he placed both his hands together, and closed his eyes. The rest of the Lords did the same.
Aiden also followed since he had no idea how they prayed.
"Also, your belongings have been moved to the Eastern Church until the Head Church is rebuilt. I’m going to speak to the king," He spoke as he stood up and also walked away.
"Your Holiness, I’m going to pass by the Eastern Church, so I can drop you off if you’re ready to leave," Lord Lucian spoke.
"Thank you, I’m ready to leave," Aiden spoke as he stood up from the chair.
"This way," Lord Lucian spoke.
