Chapter 200: Chapter 200 I Loved Someone Else

Rose almost laughed sarcastically.

The Knight family had always placed profit above sentiment. As long as something brought value to the family, morality, principles, and human warmth could all be discarded.

Rose finally understood everything.

She quietly put down the white rose in her hand and completely withdrew from the situation.

Originally, she had come today for the divorce papers. Out of courtesy, she had intended to offer white roses to the Knight ancestors as a member of the younger generation.

But now that the Knight family wanted to have it both ways, she saw no reason to remain polite.

She certainly didn’t need to offer the rose.

She would simply make room for Samantha.

Rose set the white rose aside and stepped back.

There wasn’t the slightest sign that she intended to step forward and stop Samantha.

She watched coldly as the silent acceptance ceremony for Samantha continued.

Her sensible retreat from this battle between two women fighting for one man caused Ryan’s gaze to settle on her face.

Ryan watched as she quietly moved to the very back of the hall.

She looked as though she was preparing to leave altogether.

Like a complete outsider.

For a moment, Ryan even wondered whether Rose would be able to offer them her blessing today.

Unlike Ryan’s indifference, Margaret frowned as she watched Rose step away.

"Rose, don’t be stubborn. Why are you standing so far back? You are still Mrs. Knight."

Rose understood exactly what Margaret meant.

Margaret didn’t want to openly announce to the entire Knight family that she and Ryan were divorcing.

She wanted Rose to continue playing the role.

Rose let out a soft laugh.

No matter what she did, she was wrong.

If she became jealous, she was petty.

If she remained calm, she was sulking.

If she made a scene, she was unreasonable.

If she quietly withdrew, she was being stubborn.

Nothing she did was acceptable.

She was expected to endure everything with grace and humility.

Margaret had only spoken casually.

She had no intention of embarrassing Samantha today.

Waving her hand, she said, "Carry on."

If Rose had been as outstanding as Samantha, perhaps Ryan wouldn’t have changed his heart.

Ultimately, Margaret believed the problem lay with Rose herself.

In truth, she had also been dissatisfied with the incident involving Samantha’s departure from New Hope.

Ryan had paid Rose ninety million dollars.

Ninety million.

To Margaret, giving Rose such an enormous amount of money for Samantha’s sake had been a terrible bargain.

The Knight family had never allowed anyone to profit from them so easily.

If not for Samantha, Rose would never have received so much.

But now Samantha had finally proven her worth.

That made Margaret feel somewhat better.

Rose no longer looked at her.

She truly no longer wished to continue the charade.

She didn’t offer flowers.

She didn’t even watch as Ryan and Samantha stood side by side, placing their white roses before the family memorial and bowing their heads together like a newly married couple.

Instead, she quietly left the ancestral hall through the back.

Rose checked the time.

She planned to speak with Margaret once the tedious rituals were over.

Fortunately, Margaret was elderly and needed to rest afterward.

Rose carefully chose her moment and followed Margaret into the tea room.

Margaret looked at her. "What is it?"

Rose met her gaze directly. "Please return the divorce certificate."

Margaret’s expression gradually turned cold.

Rose spoke bluntly. "By allowing Samantha to attend today, you’ve already given your approval for her relationship with Ryan. As you’ve seen, Samantha has become extremely successful lately and is receiving praise everywhere. Your prejudice against her has disappeared, hasn’t it?"

As for the complicated relationships between brothers, sisters-in-law, and family ties—

The Knight family’s public relations team was more than capable of handling the scandal.

Rose was making her position clear.

She was willing to step aside.

Samantha satisfied the Knight family’s expectations.

If the family wanted grandchildren, Samantha could give them grandchildren.

Margaret asked, "Why are you in such a hurry?"

Rose pressed her lips together.

Gathering her courage, she said, "Because I’ve fallen in love with another man."

At that exact moment, the door opened.

Rose didn’t turn around.

However, she saw Ryan’s reflection in the mirror.

He stood quietly at the doorway.

Yet Ryan showed no reaction.

It was impossible to tell whether he had actually heard the words: "I’ve fallen in love with another man."

"Dinner is ready." His voice was as calm as ever.

Margaret’s expression, which had darkened because of Rose’s bold statement, softened slightly.

As she rose, she said, "If you truly have someone else in mind, bring him here for me to see."

Rose’s lips tightened.

She had already agreed to Margaret’s condition that she would never remarry into the Knight family after the divorce.

Now Margaret wanted to meet the man?

Who exactly was she supposed to bring?

Margaret glanced at Ryan.

His face remained completely indifferent.

Even after hearing that his wife had fallen in love with another man, he showed no reaction whatsoever.

Not even a trace of emotion.

Clearly, the negotiation had gone nowhere.

As Margaret walked ahead, Rose moved beside Ryan.

Just as he was about to follow, her fingertips caught the edge of his sleeve.

Ryan lowered his eyes.

He looked at the hand holding his sleeve.

Rose assumed he disliked physical contact, so she quickly released him.

"When are you going to give me the divorce certificate?"

She practically demanded the answer.

Her stubbornness was impossible to hide.

She continued, "If you give me the divorce certificate now, Ethan will be released next month. You’ll still have enough time to give Samantha a proper status before he gets out. Wouldn’t that solve everything?"

Ryan looked down at her for several seconds.

His voice remained calm. "You’ve planned everything quite thoroughly for me."

Rose didn’t care what he thought. "Just give me a date."

Before Ryan could answer, his expression suddenly changed.

He grabbed Rose’s arm and pulled her sharply toward him.

At the same time, his other hand shot upward.

A basketball flying toward the back of Rose’s head was swatted away.

The ball crashed into a nearby table.

A priceless antique porcelain vase shattered instantly.

The loud crash startled everyone.

Rose turned around.

Evan stood there, equally shocked.

The thirteen-year-old boy was so frightened by his older brother’s expressionless face that he didn’t even dare pick up the ball.

He had only wanted to play a prank.

He had simply wanted to scare Rose.

It wasn’t as though he intended to hurt anyone.

Rose knew Evan had always been spoiled.

She lowered her gaze.

Ryan’s hand was still firmly wrapped around her arm.

He hadn’t let go.

At that moment, Samantha’s voice sounded behind them.

"Ryan?"

Almost the instant she spoke, Ryan released Rose.

As if what had just happened was completely insignificant.

Without another glance at Rose, he walked directly toward Samantha.

His decisiveness in avoiding any misunderstanding was almost ruthless.

As Samantha passed by, she cast Rose a cold glance.

Rose ignored her.

Instead, she looked at the shattered porcelain vase.

In a single moment, millions of dollars had been destroyed.

When Rose entered the dining room, she immediately felt she had arrived at the wrong time.

Margaret was saying to Samantha, "There’s a seat beside Ryan. Sit there."

Samantha knew that Margaret had already shown her considerable favor today.

Much of it was because of her recent success.

Ryan had promoted her, secured resources for her, and recruited talent for her.

Everything had led to this moment.

Emotion flashed across her face.

She turned to look at the man sitting elegantly beside her.

Rose stopped walking.

There was no longer a place for her.

She was gradually being removed from the Knight family.

Now Samantha’s success had become her greatest advantage.

And right in front of her, the Knight family was openly elevating the other woman.

Margaret added, "It’s getting late. If you’d like to stay the night, have someone prepare a room for you."

The words were directed at Samantha.

Surprise and delight flashed through Samantha’s eyes.

She immediately smiled. "Then I’ll gladly accept your hospitality."

As she spoke, she raised her eyebrows slightly and glanced at Rose.

The smugness in her expression was especially irritating.

Rose’s throat tightened.

She had never imagined Samantha would actually stay overnight.

Everyone in the Knight family knew that Samantha was the woman who had destroyed her marriage.

Yet they still allowed this to happen.

Samantha looked at Rose from the corner of her eye before turning toward Ryan.

"Ryan, is that okay?"

Ryan slowly lifted his eyes.

Almost everyone in the dining room looked toward him.

Nearly a dozen pairs of eyes were waiting for his answer.

Because if Ryan agreed, it would be the same as publicly tearing Rose’s dignity apart.

But before he could answer, the phone on the table suddenly rang.

Ryan glanced at the caller ID.

Leaning back lazily in his chair, he ignored Samantha’s question and answered the call.

His assistant, Owen, sounded extremely anxious.

"Mr. Knight, something has happened. There’s been an accident involving Miss Hill’s machine."
