Chapter 147: Chapter 147 Find Out The Secret Behind Trevor’s Daughter

Perhaps James realized that what he was asking was somewhat unreasonable.

Pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration, he let out a bitter laugh.

"Rose really knows how to make life difficult. I thought someone else had bewitched Trevor, but it turns out the answer was right under my nose..."

Halfway through the sentence, he seemed to realize how inappropriate the remark sounded.

After all, Ryan had been Rose’s husband for years.

James glanced at Ryan.

Despite the string of requests that could only be described as unreasonable, Ryan showed no sign of irritation or anger.

Even when James accused Rose of bewitching Trevor, Ryan remained remarkably composed.

Ryan shifted his gaze elsewhere.

Unable to help himself, James followed his line of sight.

The venue was crowded and bustling. After searching through the crowd for several moments, James finally spotted Rose.

Ryan had been watching Rose all along.

James couldn’t help but comment,

"You really do have an eagle eye."

"This situation isn’t difficult to solve," Ryan said indifferently, ignoring the remark.

James looked at him. "You agree? You’ll help me delay the divorce? Put it on hold for now?"

The questions came one after another.

Ryan still didn’t answer directly.

Instead, he said slowly, "Trevor has kept his daughter’s existence extremely well hidden. But recently, there have been signs that information is being leaked. One possibility is that it’s intentional. He may never have intended to form an alliance with the Taylor family in the first place. He’s simply using his daughter’s existence to force your family to call off the engagement yourselves."

James’s expression stiffened.

He had no choice but to confront the reality of the situation.

What Ryan said made perfect sense.

Earlier, he had allowed his emotions to cloud his judgment and had overlooked the most important detail.

Now that Ryan had pointed it out, everything suddenly became clear.

Was Trevor doing this on purpose?

The Robinson and Taylor families had maintained a close relationship for generations. The marriage contract had been personally written by their great-grandfathers. Both families placed tremendous importance on such agreements.

Even if either side wanted to dissolve the engagement, it would trigger a major conflict. It could never be settled with a few simple words.

Otherwise, Trevor wouldn’t have dragged things out for so long.

The very reason he had waited until now was because ending the engagement would inevitably cause an upheaval.

"I haven’t even told my family about this yet," James admitted, his expression growing darker.

Why was Trevor so determined not to marry his sister?

Ryan caught sight of Rose running toward Caleb with a bright smile on her face.

Calmly, he looked away. "Until a proper solution is found, it would be unwise to burn bridges. The Taylor family has no reason to play into someone else’s hands."

James frowned. "What do you mean?"

Ryan slowly swirled the wine in his glass. "Trevor’s daughter’s biological mother may be the key."

The image of the little girl’s delicate face flashed through his mind.

A slight crease appeared between his brows before he continued.

"If Trevor was willing to leave the mother behind while taking the child away, then there was likely a reason the mother couldn’t enter the Robinson family. Otherwise, things wouldn’t have developed this way. If you can find her, Trevor’s relationships with other women will unravel on their own."

James felt as though a fog had suddenly lifted from his mind.

Every word Ryan spoke struck at the heart of the matter.

Trevor had fathered a child out of wedlock to avoid marrying into the Taylor family, yet he still hadn’t married the child’s mother.

That suggested one of two possibilities:

Either he didn’t want to marry her, or he couldn’t.

But would the child’s mother willingly accept having her child taken away?

If she were found, she would naturally expose the truth behind everything that had happened.

And if she returned and made a scene, the Robinson family—being the party at fault—would no longer be able to hide the truth.

At that point, the balance of power would shift.

Instead of being manipulated by Trevor, the Taylor family would have the upper hand.

The Robinson family would be the ones forced to answer for their actions.

"This is exactly why I wanted to talk to you."

James raised his glass and lightly clinked it against Ryan’s.

A short while ago, he had been so furious that he had nearly gone straight to confront Rose.

After all, from his perspective, Rose had been on the verge of becoming another man’s mistress.

Ryan merely shrugged.

James narrowed his eyes.

"But considering how eager Rose seems to be to find someone to rely on, and the fact that Trevor is actually seeing her, I suspect Trevor doesn’t know that you were Rose’s first husband. Otherwise, I doubt he’d be interested."

In James’s mind, Rose was most likely seeing Trevor behind Ryan’s back.

The Robinson family had no reason to risk a feud with the Knight family over a woman.

Of course, James wanted to find Trevor immediately and tell him that Rose was Ryan’s wife.

But when he noticed Samantha approaching from a distance, he dismissed the idea.

Given Ryan’s highly public relationship with Samantha, now wasn’t the time to reveal everything.

As Samantha approached, she carefully observed James’s expression.

After hearing her earlier accusations, he had clearly been furious.

Yet now he appeared calm and collected.

She had assumed that someone as proud as James would never tolerate anyone betraying his sister.

At the very least, she had expected him to publicly humiliate Rose or force her to leave.

Instead...

Nothing had happened.

Everything was perfectly calm.

"What are you two talking about?" Samantha asked, pushing aside her confusion.

Ryan glanced at her. "There’s a patient-care management company over there. Go introduce yourself."

Samantha looked in that direction and immediately understood his intentions.

Ryan was helping her build connections.

Although New Hope had recruited the overseas team first, Rose wasn’t discouraged.

There were always other opportunities.

Now that she was about to receive special admission, her professional network would naturally continue to grow.

Leo had already heard about her search for talent.

That evening during dinner, he personally introduced her to several outstanding graduates from various branches of the Academy of Medicine and Research.

"Once you secure your associate professor position, you’ll naturally be able to build your own team," Leo said. "These researchers from the Academy can collaborate directly with your G.S. team. Working with them will be far smoother than working with an overseas group."

He handed those valuable connections directly to Rose.

Rose’s smile was so bright that her eyes nearly disappeared into crescents.

"My dear senior is always the most reliable."

Caleb glanced over.

The corners of Leo’s mouth had already lifted into a satisfied smile.

One compliment from Rose was enough to put him in an excellent mood.

"..."

Rose herself hadn’t expected such a fortunate outcome.

Being able to recruit researchers directly from a branch of the Academy of Medicine and Research would make collaboration significantly easier than working with an overseas team.

Meanwhile, Samantha was moving forward at full speed with her own project.

But the most critical issue remained unresolved—the database.

That uncertainty continued to weigh heavily on her.

She had originally assumed that once she recruited the team G.S. wanted, Caleb would eventually give in and contact her to exchange it for Aster’s Aetheris Medical AI database.

Instead, she was met with complete silence.

Then Oliver arrived with unexpected news.

"G.S. has actually partnered with the Academy of Medicine and Research!" he said in disbelief. "Word is they’ve brought in researchers directly from there. What’s going on? Even if Dean Byrne has ties to the Academy, could he really pull that many strings for G.S.?"

Samantha’s expression darkened.

She had assumed she held the advantage.

She never imagined things would unfold this way.

Did that mean she still had no way of gaining access to the database created by Aster, the developer behind Aetheris Medical AI?

Without Aster’s database—the one thing that could give her project a decisive advantage—wouldn’t her work become completely ordinary?

Anger surged through her.

How could Dean Byrne so openly use his influence to benefit his own son?

Left with no other option, she softened her tone and turned toward Ryan, who was reviewing documents nearby.

"Ryan..."

Her voice was tinged with frustration.

"What should we do?"
