Chapter 146: Chapter 146 Can You Delay Your Divorce With Rose?

When Rose saw James, her first instinct was to leave.

James took a few steps after her, sounding slightly irritated.

"Rose, didn’t you see me?"

It felt as though Rose was avoiding him at all costs, and for some reason, that made him uncomfortable.

"I saw you," Rose replied, forced to stop.

"Then why are you leaving?"

"Who wouldn’t avoid a walking plague?"

James had always considered himself sharp-tongued, but Rose was more than capable of holding her own.

For a moment, he didn’t know how to respond.

"There are quite a few people here today working in AI healthcare. If G.S. is serious about pursuing that project—which, frankly, doesn’t look very promising—you should take the opportunity to network and learn from them."

His advice was genuinely well-intentioned.

But Rose laughed. "Why do you think it’s unlikely to succeed? Are you trying to help me, or are you just looking down on me?"

James was momentarily speechless.

Had he said the wrong thing again?

Rose couldn’t be bothered arguing with him.

She turned and walked away.

James rubbed the space between his eyebrows, feeling inexplicably frustrated.

When Samantha approached, she noticed that James was still staring at Rose’s retreating figure.

Just moments earlier, he hadn’t even acknowledged her.

For some reason, that made her uneasy.

"Mr. Taylor? What were you talking to Rose about?"

James snapped out of his thoughts and looked at her.

"Nothing."

It was obvious he had no intention of sharing the details.

A trace of disappointment darkened Samantha’s eyes.

"Do you remember when we were at New Hope? I told you there was something I wanted to say."

James nodded. "Didn’t you end up saying it was nothing?"

At the time, Samantha had chosen not to bring it up, and he hadn’t pressed her.

Samantha glanced in Rose’s direction. "Actually, I hesitated because I didn’t want to upset you. But I also don’t want Rose to deceive you."

James frowned slightly. "What do you mean?"

Samantha sighed softly.

"Actually..."

She lowered her voice. "The woman who seduced Mr. Robinson and tried to steal your sister’s fiancé might be Rose."

The relaxed expression on James’s face instantly disappeared.

"What?"

His voice turned cold.

Samantha hesitated before continuing. "A few days ago, Ryan and I went to Hong Kong to meet with several companies. I ran into Rose and Mr. Robinson there. It seems Rose plans to start a relationship with him as soon as she’s completely finished with Ryan. In fact, Mr. Robinson even intends to marry her."

The revelation was difficult to process.

James stood frozen for several seconds.

His expression became increasingly grim.

A sharp pain twisted in his chest.

The faint affection he had gradually developed for Rose shattered in an instant when weighed against his younger sister’s future.

"I didn’t want to say anything," Samantha added sincerely, "but I couldn’t stand by and watch you be deceived by her."

James’s understanding of the situation had been completely overturned.

He simply couldn’t picture Rose with Trevor.

Not only had Trevor fathered a child out of wedlock, but now he intended to marry a woman who had just ended another relationship?

And not long ago, Jordan had been entangled with Rose as well.

Now the trouble had somehow found its way to the Taylor family.

He absolutely would not allow that to happen.

After hurriedly telling Samantha that he had something to take care of, James turned and left.

Samantha made no move to stop him.

She knew exactly what would happen after this.

James would inevitably develop resentment toward Rose—perhaps even disgust or hatred.

As for retaliation?

That was entirely possible.

If Rose thought she could use this opportunity to win people over and take what belonged to Samantha, she was dreaming.

When James found Ryan, he had just finished exchanging pleasantries with a newly arrived official.

Ryan glanced at James’s unusually grim expression.

"What’s wrong? Did someone upset you?"

Not wanting others to overhear, James lowered his voice. "Can we talk?"

"Go ahead."

James got straight to the point. "How far along are you and Rose in the divorce process?"

Ryan studied him for a moment before replying slowly, "I’m not sure."

James frowned. "You’re one of the people getting divorced. How can you not be sure?"

Ryan answered casually, "Things haven’t exactly followed the normal procedure."

James didn’t press for details.

Instead, he looked directly at him. "Can you hold off on the divorce for now?"

Ryan stopped flipping his phone in his hand.

His gaze darkened slightly.

Knowing the request was unreasonable, James softened his tone.

"Or at least delay things for a while. As long as Rose remains legally married, certain situations can be avoided."

He thought it over.

Trevor wasn’t someone who could easily be persuaded.

Ryan, however, was his friend.

At the very least, Ryan could understand where he was coming from.

After all, Ryan and Rose were still legally married.

As long as Ryan refused to let go, some matters would never progress beyond a farce.

James had his own reasoning. "As for Samantha, to be blunt, she’s eager to marry into the Knight family as soon as possible. Your grandmother isn’t exactly easy to deal with. Since you can’t give Samantha an official status right away, why not keep Rose in place for the time being? It won’t hurt anyone."

Everyone knew how deeply Rose had once loved Ryan.

If Ryan showed her even the slightest bit of affection, she would probably run back to him without hesitation.

Sometimes a man didn’t need to do much to manage a woman’s emotions.

Otherwise, why would so many women willingly throw themselves into marriage?

It didn’t take Ryan long to understand where this was coming from.

Instead of answering directly, he asked, "What did you find out?"

James avoided the question.

Instead, he asked quietly, "Is there any way to delay the divorce proceedings?"
