During the afternoon English class, ➤ NоvеⅠight ➤ (Read more on our source) Zhang Shaoqing looked longingly at the catgirl, Qianqian, standing at the front of the room teaching.
She hadn’t spoken to him all day!
Just yesterday morning, she’d been so enthusiastic—why the sudden cold shoulder?
Could it be that she didn’t like him anymore?
Zhang Shaoqing’s face, full of melancholy, froze for a moment, and he cast a slightly guilty glance at Wang Jie and Wen Yang on either side of him. Lowering his head, he leaned forward on the desk.
Why did he feel a strange thrill?
Not because she was no longer clinging to him; rather, he felt oddly excited.
Images of Qianqian reluctantly scolding him came to mind, though still within his grasp, firmly under his control.
If he were to add a bit of spice, put her in uniform, maybe use some... but no, he cut the thought off. He wasn’t that shameless.
Yet his mind couldn’t help but race even more!
"Wang Jie, Shaoqing, want some oranges?"
Ning Chu’s voice interrupted his thoughts. Zhang Shaoqing turned to see her holding out a couple of orange slices.
Clearly up to no good!
He immediately grew wary, glancing over at Wen Yang, who was listening to the lecture with a neutral expression, and then at Yan Xinya and Lily.
Boyfriend and best friends hadn’t been offered any; why would it come to him?
"You put something in it, didn’t you?"
"???"
"Did you rub it in wasabi?!"
Zhang Shaoqing leaned back in his chair, eyeing the peeled orange in Ning Chu’s hand as if it were a vial of poison.
"Are you sick?"
"Let me guess... you dropped it on the floor, right!" He had an epiphany. "No wonder you didn’t give it to Wen Yang and came to me instead."
Wang Jie, utterly confused, didn’t think twice and reached out, taking an orange slice and preparing to pop it into his mouth.
"Don’t eat it!" Zhang Shaoqing grabbed his hand, carefully inspecting the orange. "Or is it just sour and doesn’t taste good?"
"Ning Chu! Unless you take a bite first, I’m not eating it!"
"Suit yourself. Give it back then."
Hearing that, he quickly popped the orange into his mouth. "No way! Once it’s given, it’s mine!"
"Damn, it is a bit sour. Since when do you eat fruit?"
Ning Chu peeled two more oranges, handing them to Wen Yang and Yan Xinya, explaining, "I passed by a fruit shop after lunch and accidentally bought too many. Need your help to finish them before they go bad."
Wen Yang’s face was full of resignation. "It didn’t seem like much when we bought it, but once we got out, we realized it was way too much to finish."
"Maybe Ning Chu’s pregnant, and that’s why she’s craving something sour?" Yan Xinya, with her wolf ears perked, leaned over, only for Ning Chu to push her face away in annoyance.
"Don’t talk nonsense!" Ning Chu huffed, muttering, "Liking sour foods when pregnant—where’s the scientific basis for that? It’s just an old wives’ tale."
Besides, she’d just gotten her period, even if it had been a few days late.
Lily, usually so calm and composed, looked on with curiosity. "Pregnant?"
"Yeah~ Better be careful; I heard succubi are especially prone to pregnancy."
"......"
Lily turned her head away in silence, while Ning Chu let out a sigh.
The fantasy books didn’t have any of that nonsense! In a magical world, succubi weren’t constantly getting pregnant!
Though perhaps, since a species' primary purpose is reproduction, succubi might indeed have higher fertility than other non-human girls or human women.
This once made them highly competitive, but in a fast-paced modern society, fewer people even wanted kids.
Apparently, young, naive succubi often frequented the abortion clinics, while experienced ones had long learned effective contraception methods.
"Zhang Shaoqing! Stop talking during class! Or would you like to come up and teach?"
Qianqian’s sudden smack on the desk made everyone freeze and quiet down instantly.
Zhang Shaoqing, flustered, looked up at the cold, professional figure of Qianqian in her business attire. His eyes lit up momentarily, but he quickly looked down in guilt.
Damn! Where was this urge to dominate coming from?
Am I some kind of freak?
Qianqian noticed the gleam in his eyes, hesitated, then casually grabbed a slice of orange from Ning Chu’s desk before continuing her lecture.
Perhaps Ning Chu’s idea was working?
Just a day of ignoring him, and Zhang Shaoqing had already asked four or five times to go out. Before this, he’d been aloof, nothing like his persistent and passionate pursuit from before.
"Wen Yang, could you go to the pharmacy after school and pick something up for me?"
Ning Chu leaned over and whispered into Wen Yang’s ear.
"Painkillers?" Wen Yang’s expression grew concerned. "Are your cramps acting up again?"
"No, it’s... a pregnancy test."
Wen Yang grew even more alarmed. "What?!"
"Calm down! Yan Xinya freaked me out, so I want to check and put my mind at ease." Ning Chu rolled her eyes at him.
"And if you really are?"
"Then..." The little succubus froze, her mind going blank, not knowing how to answer.
She shook her head, curled up on her desk, and murmured, "Not possible, absolutely not."
"Don’t scare me like that; I’m not good with shocks, okay?" She nudged Wen Yang’s leg under the desk.
They were only freshmen! Not even of legal marriage age! How could something so ridiculous happen?
Ning Chu didn’t want to dwell on it, reconsidering her request. "Forget it; don’t buy it. It’d just be a waste."
Wen Yang understood her well and didn’t press further, though his mind had already started wandering to baby names.
Wait, how would two college students even afford to raise a child?!
Looking pensive, Ning Chu finished her orange, wiped her hands with a tissue, and glanced at the oblivious Yan Xinya.
It had just been a couple of teasing comments, yet she had taken them so seriously.
Irritated, she grabbed hold of Yan Xinya’s big tail, making her yelp and look back at her in confusion.
"What’s wrong?"
"I’m cold! I’m warming up with your tail!"
"Such a harsh tone~" The wolf girl’s ears twitched, a slight blush rising to her cheeks. "Uh... could you not rub it like that?"
While not as sensitive as a succubus’s, a wolf tail was still quite sensitive.
Yan Xinya guessed the reason for Ning Chu’s irritation, lying down softly on her desk as she tried to explain, "A late period could mean pregnancy, you know~"
"And craving sour things could mean pregnancy too! I wasn’t wrong, just giving you a heads-up."
"Didn’t need the reminder!"
Ning Chu released her tail with a frustrated sigh, slumping down onto her desk as well.
"It’s nothing; I was just joking. Don’t take it seriously." Yan Xinya asked quietly, "After all, when you’re with Wen Yang, you two must be... careful, right?"
"......"
"Why aren’t you saying anything?"
Ning Chu avoided the wolf girl’s gaze, embarrassed.
