Chapter 62: Custard Buns
Friday afternoon, gym class.
After two laps around the field under the teacher’s supervision, Ning Chu collapsed onto the grass, exhausted. She quickly pulled out her phone to check the screen.
Nothing. She let out a sigh and dramatically leaned back, staring up at the clear blue sky, her thoughts wandering.
Yan Xinya walked over, looking down at her disheveled appearance. “Pull your shirt down a bit. Aren’t you worried that your tattoo will show?”
Ning Chu tugged at the hem of her shirt and zipped up her jacket, yawning repeatedly.
“Tired?”
“Yeah, I didn’t nap at noon.”
“Why not? Were you afraid someone would mess with you while you slept?”
It was one thing to think about that privately, but saying it aloud, especially if Zhang Shaoqing or Wang Jie overheard, wouldn’t be great.
She pursed her lips, not bothering to answer, and rolled over to lie on her side, continuing to scroll through her phone.
Usually, she would spend time reading novels, watching videos, or playing some offline mobile games. But lately, her chat apps had been her primary time killer.
“Want to grab some milk tea?” The wolf-girl squatted beside her, hands resting on her knees.
“No thanks. I’ve already had three cups this week hanging out with you guys...” Ning Chu yawned again. “Aren’t you worried about getting fat?”
“Not at all! I don’t gain weight!”
Yan Xinya’s metabolism wasn’t so much a gift as it was a result of endless energy. She was always running around, making noise, like a hyperactive husky. And you never saw a fat husky, did you?
The wolf-girl flopped down onto the grass, using Ning Chu’s lap as a pillow, stretching out with a satisfied yawn.
Ning Chu didn’t mind, but the envious, jealous stares from the male students nearby were hard to miss.
Yeah, go ahead and envy me~
I swapped my guy parts for this...
She raised her hand, resting the back of it against her forehead to block the sunlight. Her eyes traced the smooth skin on her hand, practically poreless.
Every time she got ‘punished,’ her skin seemed to get even softer and smoother. Her features were becoming more refined, and her already captivating eyes were slowly becoming even more alluring.
As for her chest, it seemed to have stopped developing for now. At least it wasn’t changing much. Pressing on it still hurt a little, and it remained slightly swollen.
Maintaining this petite figure suited her just fine. Ning Chu wasn’t envious of Lily or Lin Li’s exaggerated proportions at all.
Speaking of Lily, the girl walked over, her cold expression unchanged. She sat down nearby, glanced at the two of them, and then rested her head on Yan Xinya’s lap.
“Move over a bit.”
Yan Xinya obligingly scooted over, her legs now resting under Ning Chu’s head.
The three of them ended up forming a triangle...
“Ning Chu, you can’t keep sneaking into the dorm at night. You’re going to get caught eventually,” Yan Xinya said, a sudden thought crossing her mind. “Why don’t you just wear girls' clothes from now on?”
What kind of terrible idea was that?
“That girl who reported seeing a guy sneaking around the dorm said she didn’t feel safe. If you’re prettier than her in a dress, maybe she’ll feel safer,” Yan Xinya added.
“What kind of ridiculous logic is that...”
“Come on, give it a try! If you go in wearing girls’ clothes at night, who’s going to notice?”
Lily, normally quiet, chimed in, “Have Lin Li do your makeup.”
“Exactly! Lin Li’s great at makeup!”
Lin Li would probably charge her for that... Despite being a rich girl, Lin Li was obsessed with business. She had that slick, cunning look of a born entrepreneur. No doubt her family made their money in business.
Ning Chu didn’t have much of an issue with wearing girls’ clothes anymore. It was a matter of once or countless times, and besides, she was already a girl now.
The problem was wearing girls' clothes in school. If people started talking, they’d label her as some kind of weirdo.
“Let’s talk about it later.” Ning Chu glanced at her phone again and this time, her eyes lit up. She quickly sat up, her fingers flying over the screen as she typed out a message.
“Is that Wen Yang?” Yan Xinya teased, noticing her sudden burst of energy.
“Yeah, he says he can come back early.”
Her voice even rose a little in excitement, the corners of her lips curling into a smile.
Yan Xinya smirked. “You were just about to fall asleep a minute ago. Now that your ‘boyfriend’ is coming back, look how wide awake you are.”
“What boyfriend?” Ning Chu muttered, not looking up as she quickly typed a reply to Wen Yang. “I just had a little nap, that’s all.”
“Yeah, sure. You’ve been dragging yourself through everything for the past few days, and now suddenly, you’re texting him back so fast.”
Was the wolf-girl addicted to teasing her? Ning Chu shot her an irritated look. “Stop saying nonsense!”
“Your stubbornness is impressive~” Yan Xinya shook her head in amusement.
Lily, usually quiet, suddenly spoke up, “I bet you won’t admit your feelings until you’re like a custard bun, all soft and gooey.”
Ning Chu blinked in confusion, staring at the normally stoic Lily.
For a moment, she didn’t understand, but then the meaning hit her, and her face went beet-red in an instant. The heat of embarrassment surged up from her neck to her ears, making her head feel light and fuzzy.
“You...”
She looked at Lily’s icy expression, utterly baffled as to how someone so cold could say something so... suggestive!
Yan Xinya, noticing Ning Chu’s flushed face, let out a sly giggle, finally realizing what kind of road they’d gone down.
Lily, meanwhile, remained expressionless, her brain apparently filled with all sorts of naughty thoughts despite her calm exterior.
“I’m going to the bathroom.”
Ning Chu scrambled to her feet, desperate to escape before Lily could continue down this inappropriate path, and hurriedly left the field.
She just couldn’t handle Lily.
When they’d first met, Lily had recommended all sorts of ‘toys’ to her, and while the conversations had once been limited to chatrooms, now that they knew each other better, Lily didn’t hold back.
“No wonder she’s a succubus,” Ning Chu muttered as she left the field, walking towards the convenience store while glancing down at her phone again.
“So he can come back early... but how early?”
“Tomorrow? Or maybe early the day after?”
Ning Chu whispered to herself, but suddenly, she felt an intense, possessive gaze lock onto her from behind.
Her body froze, her hand instinctively reaching for the hypnosis spray in her jacket.
That look... it had to be from some creep!
Though panic gripped her, she’d been training herself to handle these sorts of moments better lately. Rationally speaking, she knew she couldn’t outrun a guy, but this was a school, and there were plenty of students and teachers around. There was no way some pervert would try anything in broad daylight.
Taking a deep breath, she gripped the spray tightly and spun around.
“Wen Yang?!”

She nearly screamed in surprise.
“What, do I look that scary? Like you’ve seen a ghost or something?” Wen Yang stood under the shade of a tree, hands in his pockets, his familiar face smiling back at her.
Ning Chu stared at him, and before she knew it, a wave of emotion surged up, causing her throat to tighten. She quickly lowered her gaze, biting her lower lip gently.
This was not the time to act too eager. She couldn’t just throw herself into his arms like some heroine from a romance drama. That would be way too embarrassing...
She thought this, but her feet had already carried her right up to him. She glared up at Wen Yang, hands on her hips, and scolded him, “Why didn’t you tell me ahead of time?!”
“Uh... I just wanted to surprise you, see how you’d react.”
“What kind of reaction did you expect?”
Ning Chu shifted her feet, stepping even closer to Wen Yang.
“I was so happy while you were away, you know~”
She clicked her tongue dismissively, but her face had already turned bright red.
Custard buns...
