Chapter 20: Before the Sports Meet

Wednesday morning.

Ning Chu was rudely awakened by the music blaring from the school’s loudspeakers.

She turned over and grabbed her phone from the bedside, checking the time. It was only 7:30.

“We don’t even have classes today... why are they playing music so early?” she mumbled, burying her face in the blanket and grumbling with annoyance, “Who’s the lunatic in charge of this~?”

“Ning Chu, I’m heading out now.”

Ning Chu suddenly snapped awake, sitting up straight with newfound energy. She turned to see Wen Yang, already dressed in his sports gear and ready to leave. “Wait! I’m coming too!”

She hurriedly climbed down from her bed, fearing that Wen Yang might leave without her. In her rush, she misstepped and slipped on the ladder.

“Ah!”

Wen Yang quickly dashed over, catching Ning Chu before she could fall. He asked with concern, “Why are you in such a hurry? Are you alright?”

“Hiss~ I banged my foot.”

He looked down at her flushed, delicate face, not seeing any signs of real pain.

“Take it easy.”

“Mm...”

Feeling a bit guilty, Ning Chu slowly lowered herself to the ground, limping slightly as she headed toward the balcony. “I’ll wash up and change clothes. Give me five minutes.”

“Alright.”

She filled her cup with water, brushing her teeth absentmindedly.

Lately, pain had been accompanied by a strange sense of pleasure. This can’t go on...

Normally, a succubus only experiences this transformation of pain into pleasure during heightened states of arousal, but Ning Chu was still in the early stages of development and shouldn’t have this ability yet.

In a week or two, she’d be getting her period. If she ended up with menstrual cramps, and that constant pain turned into constant pleasure... wouldn’t that be even worse?

Finishing her morning routine quickly, she hurriedly changed into her clothes, ready to head out.

Meanwhile, Zhang Shaoqing was still lying in bed, playing on his phone, and Wang Jie was still snoring away.

“What are you going out so early for?”

Ning Chu followed Wen Yang out of the dormitory.

“The counselor asked the class committee to come early and set up our class’s rest area,” Wen Yang explained, still yawning and a bit drowsy. “We just need to move some tables, chairs, and water.”

“Oh~ Do you have any events today?”

“One 400-meter race, one long jump, and a relay tomorrow afternoon. The day after, I have the 3000-meter long-distance run.”

“You’re so diligent...”

Probably only Wen Yang would honestly sign up for so many events.

And each event had the potential to attract all the fangirls in the school.

What a headache.

After chatting a bit, the two arrived at the area near the teaching building.

A few tables, chairs, and boxes of water were scattered on the ground. The class committee members had already gathered and were preparing to move everything to the sports field.

The moment Yan Xinya spotted them, her previously lethargic tail started wagging furiously. She immediately rushed over, throwing her arms around Ning Chu’s waist. She affectionately sniffed at Ning Chu’s face before cheerfully shouting, “Good morning!”

Ning Chu wasn’t used to being so close to other girls, but Yan Xinya’s behavior reminded her of a friendly puppy from her childhood neighbor’s home.

At least the wolf-girl only greeted by sniffing her face and not something more awkward.

So Ning Chu instinctively patted Yan Xinya’s little head and gently pushed her away. “Morning.”

Wen Yang turned his head, feeling a bit jealous. He had known Ning Chu for so long and had never dared to touch her waist. The most intimate gesture they’d ever shared was holding hands.

Yan Xinya seemed to notice the jealousy and teased Wen Yang, “Don’t worry! I’m not competing with you for Ning Chu~ I’m not into girls.”

After all, she was on a mission to help this tsundere girl and her straight-laced guy friend get together! How could she compete with Wen Yang?

Wen Yang pretended not to hear, stepping forward to lift a table on his own.

“Ning Chu, are you going to help too?”

“Sure.”

Yan Xinya grabbed two boxes of water, effortlessly carrying them as she strode ahead.

Meanwhile, Ning Chu struggled with just one box, finding it hard to keep up.

She glanced at Wen Yang, who was walking ahead, and then turned to Yan Xinya, who was beside her, asking curiously, “Where’s Lily?”

“She was up to something naughty under the covers last night~ She’ll probably sleep until noon today.”

“...”

“Good thing today’s the sports meet, so she can stay in the dorms without any issues.”

With a keen nose like Yan Xinya’s around, it was hard to keep any secrets.

No wonder Lily, despite her social anxiety, got along well with Yan Xinya—her cold exterior had long been shattered by Lily’s observant nature.

“Xinya, what events are you competing in today?”

“Just one sprint.”

Ning Chu nodded, “Then come find me when you’re done.”

“Hm?”

“I’m worried that when Wen Yang competes, there will be too many fangirls... just like during PE class last week.” She sighed, feeling troubled. “Lily probably won’t be able to help us; she’s too shy, and she’s still asleep.”

Since the start of the semester, Ning Chu’s circle of friends had been limited to her four roommates, plus the wolf-girl and the succubus.

The succubus couldn’t be relied on, and Zhang Shaoqing and Wang Jie were even less dependable.

The only reliable one left was the wolf-girl.

Yan Xinya took the situation seriously and frowned, murmuring, “That could be a problem. If those bad girls all rush at Wen Yang at once, the two of us might not be able to handle it.”

“We’ll just do our best.”

Wen Yang would definitely be thrilled in that case.

Ning Chu pursed her lips, feeling a surge of displeasure at the thought of a crowd of girls swarming Wen Yang.

Why wasn’t she the protagonist?! This kind of treatment should have been hers!

“No worries, I’ll think of something~” Yan Xinya muttered, “It’s all Wen Yang’s fault for being so handsome and causing all this trouble.”

After all, he was the protagonist~

Even without a protagonist’s halo, with Wen Yang’s looks, just walking through the girls’ dormitory area would cause a stir.

The group reached a shaded area by the edge of the sports field, where they quickly set up the tables and chairs, completing their task.

Wen Yang walked over to Ning Chu. “Shall we go get breakfast?”

“Sure.”

He noticed Ning Chu’s worried expression and said helplessly, “Don’t worry, I won’t draw attention to myself.”

“I hope so...”

Why hadn’t she thought of this when Wen Yang signed up for the sports meet?

She should have stopped him from signing up back then.

“Wen Yang!”

They hadn’t walked far from the sports field when a fox-girl came running toward them.

This vixen wore a short skirt and a short-sleeved top, her slender waist and long legs exposed to the air. Her ample chest bounced as she ran, pom-poms in hand, dressed head-to-toe in a cheerleader’s outfit as she called out to Wen Yang, “Good luck in the competition!”

Well, well! The sports meet hadn’t even started yet, and Wen Yang already had his own cheerleader!

Wen Yang stared in awe, smiling shyly and politely, “Thanks.”

Ning Chu shot a glare at the smug Lin Li, then turned and snapped at Wen Yang, “What are you thanking her for? She’s the one who drugged you!”

Wen Yang, feeling guilty, lowered his head and rubbed his nose.

“Your eyes are glued to her! Is she that great to look at?”

“Not really...”

If only Ning Chu were wearing that outfit too...

“Not really?!” Ning Chu’s voice grew louder.

But she does look great!

Wen Yang, unable to meet Ning Chu’s eyes, shook his head and said, “No, not at all.”

“Humph!”
