Chapter 19: Coquettish Behavior

After the physical education class ended, only a few students lingered on the sports field.

Ning Chu casually found a spot on the grass and sat down. Having just finished a milk tea, she now held a bottle of iced cola. It was the end of the month, and her next period was approaching, so she figured she might as well drink as many cold beverages as she could while she still could.

She gazed intently at Wen Yang, who was jogging nearby, while simultaneously deleting her chat history with Lily on her phone.

Wen Yang had been busy preparing for the upcoming sports meet, leaving him no time to check his phone. This made Ning Chu feel completely at ease, knowing their conversation wouldn’t be discovered.

However, if it were ever found out, her identity as a succubus would be completely exposed... Who knows what Wen Yang might do if he found out?

It seemed like she’d have to create a secondary account to chat with Lily from now on.

“Ning Chu, time to go home.” Zhang Shaoqing walked up to her with his hands in his pockets, looking rather nonchalant. “Why are you still sitting here?”

“I’m waiting for Wen Yang.”

“Tsk~ If I didn’t know you were a guy...”

Ning Chu glanced at Wang Jie, who was standing behind Zhang Shaoqing, and interrupted, “Aren’t you and Wang Jie always hanging out together?”

“Wang Jie doesn’t look as girly as you.”

What kind of messed-up logic was that?

Too lazy to argue with him, Ning Chu simply lay back on the grass, staring at the setting sun in the west, her mind already planning how to deal with the bad girls and fangirls who might try to get close to Wen Yang during the sports meet.

“Well, Wang Jie and I are heading back.”

“Hey! Wait a minute!”

“What now?”

Lying flat on the grass, Ning Chu turned her head to look at Zhang Shaoqing. “How did you get your hands on that spray?”

“I found it at my grandpa’s place,” Zhang Shaoqing shrugged. “He said he bought it at a boutique shop. It was supposed to be perfume for my grandma, but the instructions said it was for hypnosis.”

“I saw it lying around, so I thought I might as well use it on you.”

“I see...” Ning Chu muttered. “Next time, take me to that boutique shop.”

“What are you planning?” Zhang Shaoqing gave her a disdainful look. “You’re not thinking of using it on girls, are you? That’s illegal, you know.”

“...”

Why is a villain looking at me like I’m some kind of scumbag?

Ning Chu rolled her eyes at him. “Get lost!”

“Tch! Wang Jie! Let’s go, time for some duo queue!”

Who knows what kind of item Zhang Shaoqing will get next time? If it’s something like X-ray vision... wouldn’t that mean he could see everything? Never mind the shame—getting caught would also expose her gender.

But if the item is a pair of glasses, as soon as she sees him wearing them, she’ll confiscate them immediately!

Lost in her thoughts, Ning Chu suddenly heard the soft sound of footsteps on the grass.

She turned her head and saw Wen Yang plop down beside her, panting heavily. “I haven’t exercised in a while, this is exhausting.”

“Why did you sign up for the 3000-meter run?”

“No one else in the class volunteered for the long-distance run, so I had to step up.”

Wen Yang wiped the sweat off his face and, while resting, pulled out his phone to pass the time. After a moment, though, his gaze shifted to Ning Chu. “You were chatting with Lily again?”

“...”

“Why did you delete the chat history?” he muttered, sounding a bit jealous. “Do you really have to hide things from me?”

Ning Chu replied nonchalantly, “It’s just girl talk. Why would you want to see that?”

It was probably just more of those random, inappropriate conversations.

Wen Yang could easily guess that the conversation between Ning Chu and Lily was probably very explicit; otherwise, she wouldn’t be so guilty about hiding it from him.

“That outfit, don’t you plan on trying it on?”

Ning Chu sat up, stretched lazily, and shook her head. “I don’t like wearing skirts.”

“I don’t even know why you went out of your way to buy me clothes... You could’ve used that money for food.”

Wen Yang couldn’t help but think Ning Chu was just being tsundere.

Obviously, Ning Chu had asked him for the gift, but now she was pretending it didn’t exist.

Knowing Ning Chu’s personality, even if she liked it, she would never admit it. If he really returned the outfit, she’d probably get mad at him immediately.

“Come on, let’s go eat! I’m starving.”

Wen Yang, feeling mostly rested, got up and followed Ning Chu.

“During the sports meet, just listen to me—fourth place is good enough,” Ning Chu said as she walked ahead, bringing up the sports meet again with a firm tone this time. “No arguments!”

“There’s a cash prize for placing in the top three.”

“Then you’ll just get scammed by some bad woman? Those cheap floozies would even dare drug you! Who knows what else they’d do?”

Wen Yang quickened his pace to walk alongside Ning Chu. He lowered his head, looking at her angry expression, and smiled as he asked again, “Are you jealous?”

“I just don’t like seeing you show off. I’m envious!”

Getting Ning Chu to admit she was jealous was proving to be quite difficult.

Wen Yang nodded helplessly. “Alright, alright, I won’t show off. I wouldn’t want to make you jealous.”

“That’s more like it~” Ning Chu nodded in satisfaction.

“But you have to wear the dress this weekend.”

Her satisfied smile froze on her face as she immediately protested, “No way! What if Shaoqing and Wang Jie see me? We’ve already planned to go play a murder mystery game together this weekend.”

“Then wear it when they’re not around.”

“...”

Ning Chu was silent for a moment, then came up with another excuse: “I need to try the dress on first. What if it doesn’t fit?”

“Why don’t we try it on after dinner? The dress is with Xinya, right?”

Crap! This excuse only brought forward the time she’d have to wear the dress!

Desperately thinking of a way out, she tried to come up with another reason to delay. “I really don’t like skirts...”

“I only did a little training, but I’m in pretty good shape. I wonder if those guys will be able to keep up during the competition,” Wen Yang sighed as he shook his head. “What if they’re all so weak that I accidentally place in the top three?”

This guy, when did he learn to be so sneaky?

He used to be a bit shy and reserved, and now he’s pulling all these tricks?

It must be Zhang Shaoqing who’s corrupted my protagonist!

Ning Chu looked at Wen Yang with a troubled expression, her eyes welling up with tears, giving her a pitiful and bullied appearance. Her voice softened as she pleaded sweetly, “Next time~ Please?”

Looking at her face, so full of vulnerability, Wen Yang was overcome with a strong sense of guilt. His defenses crumbled in an instant.

“Alright, next time!”

He instinctively reached out to rub Ning Chu’s head, full of regret. “Okay, okay, I won’t push you.”

Thank goodness I was a guy before! I know exactly how little shy boys can’t resist when a girl acts coy!

Ning Chu closed her eyes, enjoying Wen Yang’s gentle caresses, feeling smug and relieved that she wouldn’t have to go out in the dress.

But then, she suddenly realized that acting coy with a man might be just as embarrassing as wearing a dress...

Her face turned bright red as she slapped Wen Yang’s hand away from her head, then quickly lowered her head, her steps toward the cafeteria suddenly much more hurried.

Have I really been a woman for so long that acting coy with a man feels natural now?

Being patted on the head didn’t even make me instinctively push him away! Instead, I found it... comforting?!

Wen Yang was left baffled, not understanding why Ning Chu was suddenly upset. He didn’t dare ask, so he could only bite the bullet and catch up with her.

Women’s moods really are hard to figure out.
