Chapter 11: A Weekend Alone (2)

Black Bean clearly didn’t understand a word she said. The little cat clung to her hand with its front paws, its back legs kicking furiously, and then it bit down again.

The bite wasn’t hard, but Ning Chu was still immensely irritated. “Let go! I feed you every day, and this is how you repay me, you ungrateful little thing!”

The pain wasn’t severe, but she soon noticed something unusual. As Black Bean continued to nibble at her hand, Ning Chu furrowed her brows, feeling a strange sensation.

It hurt, but there was also a faint twinge of... pleasure?

What the heck! I’m not a masochist!

Startled, Ning Chu quickly let go of Black Bean, who jumped off her lap and disappeared in an instant.

“Ungrateful cat...” she muttered, staring at her hand where she’d been bitten, still confused.

Why did that happen?

With a sigh, Ning Chu leaned her head on one hand, idly clicking the mouse as her eyes occasionally darted toward the window.

If someone were particularly timid, having just watched a horror movie and then being left alone in a small, confined space, they might start imagining all sorts of scary scenarios.

Ning Chu, on the other hand, had spent the past two months steeped in the atmosphere of her little horror stories.

Though her expression remained neutral, her eyes increasingly flicked toward the corners and windows, her nerves gradually tightening.

“There shouldn’t be anything to worry about, right?” she muttered, biting her lower lip. She opened a game, hoping to distract herself.

But her character kept dying over and over, and Ning Chu became increasingly restless. She felt a growing sense of malice creeping in from all directions, as if a crazed intruder might suddenly appear and attack her.

She thought about taking a nap, but now she was too scared to even close her eyes.

“Bang!”

The sudden noise nearly made Ning Chu’s heart stop. She whipped her head around and saw that Black Bean had knocked over the trash can.

She couldn’t sit still any longer. Anxiety bubbling up, Ning Chu stood and began pacing the room. After a while, she stopped in front of the wardrobe.

Ning Chu opened it and looked at the pajama shirt hanging inside.

“Whether it works or not, at least it’ll give me some peace of mind,” she murmured, pulling the shirt out and slipping it on.

Maybe it was just psychological, but wearing Wen Yang’s pajama shirt really did seem to calm her nerves a bit.

She inhaled deeply, thinking she could still catch a whiff of Wen Yang’s scent lingering on the fabric.

Then she rummaged through Zhang Shaoqing’s closet and pulled out a large iron wrench. Back when they triggered the ghost-hunting scene, Zhang Shaoqing had used this exact tool during their adventure in the school building.

With the wrench in hand, Ning Chu felt a surge of security. Clearly, all her fears stemmed from a lack of power!

Feeling much more at ease, Ning Chu’s mind began to wander...

Since this is working so well, should I pack up all of Wen Yang’s clothes to take with me when I run?

But Wen Yang would probably be furious, right? That poor guy—he’s too stingy to even spend money on food, let alone buy new clothes.

“Bang, bang, bang!”

A sudden knock on the door shattered the calm she had just regained, making Ning Chu jump in fright. She stared at the door, suspicious and unsure.

Who could be knocking at this hour?

After a brief silence, a voice called out from outside, sounding a bit helpless. “Ning Chu? It’s me, Yan Xinya.”

“Xinya?”

“Yep!” A moment later, Yan Xinya’s smiling face appeared at the window. “I climbed over the wall to get here~”

“What?”

Ning Chu hurriedly got up and opened the door for her. “What are you doing here?”

The wolf-girl’s ears perked up as she curiously looked around the boys’ dormitory before answering, “You were scared about spending the weekend alone, right? So I came to keep you company.”

“Who said I was scared?”

Ning Chu muttered as she shut the door behind them and locked it again.

She looked at Yan Xinya, who was wearing a cropped shirt that showed off her toned abs, and instantly felt much more secure.

Now, even if some creep decided to attack while the protagonist was away, the wolf-girl would definitely beat them to a pulp!

“You really weren’t scared? Then why didn’t you answer when I knocked?” Yan Xinya’s gaze fell on the wrench Ning Chu was holding. “Isn’t that a bit over the top?”

“I wasn’t scared.”

“Should I go then?”

“Well, since you’re already here~” Ning Chu quickly switched to a more welcoming tone, pulling Yan Xinya into a chair. “Come on! Let’s play some games together! Want some afternoon tea? It’s on me!”
