Chapter 25: A Certain Vampire
Mothers have a very sick habit of exposing their children’s dark history anywhere and to anyone just because they themselves find it cute.
But they fail to notice the effect it has on the young minds of their children as they watch their own mother reveal their darkest secrets.
Yeon Doha didn’t know about The Forgotten Flower’s original Doha’s childhood but he knew exactly what it must have been like after seeing the kind of mother Yeon Mirae was.
"I was worried things weren’t working out between you two since you seemed so down lately," Mirae said as a humongous grin spread across her face.
"Sooo~ what did you talk about?"
I know now why I get these bouts to tease Song-rik! It must run in the family!
"We didn’t talk about anything!" He said bashfully walking to the kitchen table. "Why would you just assume it’s about hyung?"
"Aww~ Are you angwy?"
"Mom! Stop it, please!" Doha had become quite red when his eyes suddenly looked towards the door and found Jang Song-rik’s shoes laid perfectly in the doorway.
A chill went up his spine.
There’s no way his mother didn’t see them. So that’s why she’s teasing him like that!
There was a reason for her to be sure.
"Dohaya~" Mirae had noticed that Doha figured out he was caught.
"Where is my Song-rikki?"
"Mom," Doha pleaded as imaginary tears flowed down his eyes. "I can explain."
"Explain what? Just bring Song-rikki to me," Mirae smiled as she started cooking again.
"You see, I can’t exactly bring him out here," Doha slowly raised his hands to cover his face as he explained. "We had a little fight, and hyung... he came in this morning... d...drunk and he’s... well... not exactly in his right mind. So maybe if... you wait... until he sobers up..."
He stopped and sunk his face in his palms out of embarrassment.
"Oh, to be young and in love~," Mirae cooed as she cooked another dish. "Well, let him rest and bring him out later. I will cook my dear my best dishes."
Doha looked at his mother from in between his fingers as he blushed out of embarrassment and shyness.
Doha looked at his mother working in the kitchen. When he first saw her, she was on a hospital bed, a chemo drip on her arm and a warm tired smile.
It was very much like meeting a stranger for Doha, who had just transmigrated into the novel, but he could feel the affection this tired and withered mother had for her children.
He could also feel the hurt and hopelessness in her heart at being unable to help and protect her children from the harsh realities of the world.
Doha admired that. That was part of the reason why he tried and worked so hard to get Yeon Doha’s family back on it’s feet.
And after three years of living together, he had begun to see them as his own family.
"Mom," Doha said bashfully. "I want to get my high school diploma and apply for college. Am I... too late?"
Mirae paused and turned around with a shocked look on her face.
"You can never be too late, Doha," she said smiling widely. "I can now safely think that Song-rikki was the best thing that happened to you in the past few years."
She went back to cooking and Doha could still see the bulge in her cheeks from smiling.
He felt warm in his chest as he smiled softly.
Jihwan woke up with a jolt in a similar bed and room.
He had been drifting in and out of consciousness for the past week and felt delirious. He could only remember bits and pieces of the time.
He looked around and saw Oh Ryujin sitting on the table. He was nodding off. It was late at night. Maybe he fell asleep while working.
Jihwan stood up as his head rang. But he felt absolutely fine. Even better than before.
He walked over to Ryujin in a daze. He looked at laptop screen that was still on.
He’s a workaholic, huh?
Jihwan looked at Ryujin’s face as he settled himself in his lap. He had become surprisingly bold as he transformed from a human to a vampire.
And due to a certain vampire being his model of reference, his idea of human boundaries was very much jumbled and scrambled. Heck, even his memo was getting distorted.
He touched Ryujin’s face. His hands looked so small against his face.
"Why are you so fucking big?" He said as looked at his lips.
Why is he so damn handsome if he’s that rotten inside? It’s kind of unfair...
Jihwan pinched out Ryujin’s lips in irritation and bit him on the nose. But Oh Ryujin was out cold.
Jihwan noticed the dark circles under his eyes as he saw his face up close.
"Why are you that diligent at work?" He muttered. "You could just show your face there and call it a day."
Jihwan was a workaholic to the bone himself and he had been itching to get something in his hands to do.
He picked up Ryujin’s laptop and settled properly in his lap as Ryujin winced with the sudden pressure on his chest. But Jihwan didn’t want to get up. He was plenty comfy there.
He looked at the screen and it was opened on a document. A word document. The name was ’Me and my Secretary Crush’.
Jihwan blinked in surprise.
Surely, he was writing this... so what in the world is this...?
Jihwan scrolled right to the top and saw that it was a novel. The author name was ’Trybaby1’, which was obviously a pseudonym.
He began reading and... kept reading. He finished the entire thing in three hours. It was much, just 25 short Chapters yet.
Then he put down the laptop on the table exactly as he found it. Then he looked at Ryujin’s face with an unexplainable expression.
He quietly stood up and went to the bed. He covered himself with the blanket and then pondered.
What the fuck did I just read?! That... that was obviously... about me... right?!
Jihwan thought and thought, there was no way that wasn’t him in that novel. He didn’t what was more surprising, that Oh Ryujin wrote or that Oh Ryujin about him?
And what was even more shocking was the kind of things he wrote about Cha Jihwan.
Jihwan just decided to sleep off this experience and swore to never look at that abomination of a writing again.
Ryujin opened his eyes and woke up feeling tired and stressed. He kept having weird dreams about a baby cat jumping on chest.
He looked at the bed, Cha Jihwan was still asleep. He closed his laptop and walked out.
He entered a study and sat down on a chair behind a large table. He had a super serious look on his face.
He opened his laptop and looked at the file he was working on last night.
"Where did I leave it, yesterday?" He muttered as he seriously scrolled and read.
"Yeah, the scene where the secretary secretly kisses the vampire," Oh Ryujin suddenly said with a lewd and evil grin. "Shall we continue writing. Ohohoho~"
He began writing, unaware that he had unexpectedly gained a reader.
