Chapter 52: The bridge [12]
I moved to the second pair with silent and fast movements and hid behind a pillar.
However, I made a sound with my footstep making the duo snap their bows in the direction of the pillar I was hiding behind.
Here I was trying to be silent.
The archers looked at each other for a moment and then started walking towards my pillar. But instead of them coming both together in one direction, they split and came from both my left and right.
That blocked me from changing pillars because if I did, I would be found out.
I was stuck and I needed to think quickly on what to do because I was seconds away from being caught.
I felt their presence approaching cautiously until they turned around the pillar.
They found no one.
With confused looks, they looked at each other as if mentally asking themselves if they didn’t hear a sound seconds ago.
Unbeknownst to them, I was hanging right above them — I had climbed up thanks to the nails of my gloves, so I was hanging with one hand, an idea that I got from the Fire Monkey leader.
I couldn’t activate the mark of darkness I had left on this exact same pillar because it was on the opposite side, so I needed the undead skeletons to move.
Checking and confirming that there was no one behind the pillar, the undead skeletons turned left around the pillar. I followed them as well by climbing along the side.
Once they got near the mark, I activated it and dark tentacles launched to grab one of the skeletons, but the skeletons had their guard up and were able to notice the attack and jumped back, dodging the tentacles.
But this was something that I had already expected, that was why I had stretched my darkness sense circle to 25 meters and the undead skeletons were right above it.
With my command, two sharp spikes made of dark rose from the ground and impaled both skeletons in the chest.

The skeletons hung on the spikes like marionettes that lost their strings and after, they turned to ash.
My hand let go of the pillar and I fell into a crouch, landing like a cat without much sound.
’Have you thought about becoming my disciple Yves? You have the talent of becoming an assassin.’ Ezio spoke after minutes of staying silent.
’Hell nah, I’m good.’ I replied mentally. ’If becoming an assassin is going to make me become ugly like you, I refuse.’
’You...you...I don’t get it, what part of my face is ugly?? I’m clearly one of the most handsome men in this world! Have you seen how my chiseled pale skin glistens beautifully under the sunlight?’ Ezio barked in my head.
’You say that but you have zero bitches.’ I interrupted him.
’Zero what?’
’Zero bitches.’ I said again.
Ezio remained silent for a second before he bellowed loudly in my head, sounding quite offended.
’Why would I have bitches? Are you talking about wh—’
’Exactly.’ I interrupted him again.
At that moment, Ezio said different types of curses with different types of combinations that I have never thought before that they could work together and sound even more offensive.
I definitely took notes, you never know when one day you would need to curse someone.
’On your left, by the way.’
For a moment I had forgotten where I was and then my head snapped to the left — the remaining archer skeleton was standing there looking at me.
Before I could even try to convince it to not scream even though it wouldn’t have worked, the skeleton released a hollow scream that warned the four remaining undead skeletons, and echoed in the cave.
’Ezio you fucking bastard! Why do you always have to distract me?!’
’Me? I didn’t do anything.’
Ah shit, this bastard had to distract me and now I was caught.
Though, it was low-key my fault for listening to him.
No longer caring if I made a sound or not, I infused mana into my legs and dashed to my left, towards the undead skeleton archer.
The skeleton already had a bone arrow on his bowstring, pulled it and launched the arrow at me.
I drew my katana and cut the arrow in clean halves. Before the archer could load another arrow, my blade was already slashing his arm off, falling to the ground. Then I stabbed him in the chest, the katana piercing right through the core.

The undead skeleton turned to ash.
The running footsteps of the two other remaining pairs of skeletons echoed in the cave as they ran towards me.
I turned around and dashed back to where I had come from as fast as I could. When I got there, I raised a wall of darkness and closed the entrance.
It was so that it would keep the large skeleton away for some time. I knew that he had probably heard the scream, so if he joined the other four, it would be complicated. So I planned to first quickly kill the four skeletons coming at me and then face the big one later.
After making sure the entrance was properly closed, I turned around and the two skeletons holding maces were already near while the two swordsmen were behind, and when they saw me their mouths released the same hollow scream.
I waited and didn’t do anything yet.
The undead monsters were approaching fast and when one of them was near a pillar I had marked, I activated the mark and a sharp spike thrust from the side and pierced the skeleton’s head, breaking it into pieces. The skeleton fell down on the floor, while the others were sensible enough to block the spikes coming from the other sides.
The skeletons stopped in their tracks at the sight of their companion getting attacked for a few seconds before they continued running, but they didn’t run near the pillars anymore, instead running in the middle, where the pillars were far away, so that they wouldn’t get attacked by me.
I sheathed my sword, closed my eyes and then I took a stance — my left hand held the sheath while my right hand gripped the hilt of the katana and I enhanced my whole body with mana.
I waited.
40 meters.
30 meters.
20 meters.
When they reached 10 meters away from me, mana coiled around my feet violently, making my muscles compress. I leaned forward, to the point that I looked like I was descending face-first towards the ground—
But just before I hit face first on the ground, I moved.
I had moved so fast that the ground beneath me only fractured a few seconds after I moved, creating a small crater as I dashed forward with explosive speed.
Sshhiiing!
The sound of my katana being unsheathed echoed loudly like the sound of a hammer hitting hot metal, which released a small spark that lit up the cave for a moment.
My figure blurred, leaving a streak of black blur that blurred past all the skeletons in a heartbeat.
I appeared behind the three skeletons who were frozen in place.
I flicked my katana left and right before I sheathed it calmly.
Click.
As soon as the click sound released from the katana being sheathed, the undead skeletons were cut into different clean halves and fell on the floor, turning into dust.
