Chapter 250: Reluctant resolutions.

Numia’s tears turned into wails. She fell to her knees, clutching her stomach like she was in pain. "All I want is for my child to have a comfortable childhood. To sleep in a nice bed, to wear nice clothes, to be nourished by the best supplements. If I still had my own money, I would have been able to provide these things like I did for my first son. But now, I have lost everything. My money. My dignity. My parents won’t speak to me anymore because they don’t want to be implicated in Paris’s crimes. I have lost my family. All I want is a nice crib. Why can’t I have it?"

Christo looked at Sienna, his eyes filled with shame, and a little expectation. She could tell that he was about to give in to his wife and ask her to concede. He was carrying the guilt of Paris’s actions like a crown on his head. The fact that it cost his wife everything would never be erased.

And Sienna was also feeling just a little sorry for Numia. The woman had not told her that her family had cut her off so ruthlessly. If the Rocland’s abandoned her, she would be alone. No wonder grandma Byra threatened to make the couple divorce but she never went through with it.

No wonder grandpa Corven just sighed when Numia threw tantrums and gave her what she wanted all the time. Their son had ruined Numia.

Grandma Byra knelt beside Numia, gently touching her stomach. "You have not lost family Numia, we are here. We are your family too. But family is not a vault to be raided. It is a bond to honored. If you continue to demand what is not yours, you will drive us away yourself."

Jess raised her voice. "When the gifts arrive, they will be taken to storage. They will remain until they are truly needed. Not for greed, not for false claims, but for the child of the Veythar household when the time comes. If Sienna won’t use them, Gael and his wife will."

Numia’s cries grew hysterical. "So, nothing for me? Nothing for my child?"

Grandma Byra’s voice was quiet but resolute. "What your child needs will be taken care of by the Rocland’s. You will also be cared for by the Rocland’s. The Veythar fortune and how it is spent is not related to you or us. They are not obligated to indulge you because they are not related to you. That is the difference between you and Sienna. It is a logical one that anyone can see. If you have been comparing yourself to Sienna, stop, because you will lose."

Numia’s face twisted with fury and despair. She rose rapidly, her cheeks streaked with tears. "You are all cruel! Cruel and heartless! You speak of compassion when addressing your tribe but show none to to me. You speak of family but treat me as a beggar at your gates!"

Elias finally spoke, in a cold voice. "Numia, enough. You have embarrassed yourself and my wife and this family. If you think our treatment of you is unfair, you can leave. We will not be manipulated by your tears."

Numia’s eyes darted wildly, searching for sympathy, but found none. With a final wail, she turned and fled the house, her sobs echoing out the door until they faded into silence.

The room exhaled collectively. Grandma Byra sighed, shaking her head. "I truly apologize. She is lost in grief and anger. Perhaps one day she will see reason."

Christo bowed in different directions, as fast as he could, apologizing to everyone. "Sorry. I am sorry you were all cornered like this. She called her mother two days ago to give her the good news on the pregnancy and she was told to live her life quietly like an orphan, never contacting them again. She owned some shops in the market and her family sold them and gave all the money to her nephews. Everything she had is gone. Numia has been holding so much inside for so long. I know it doesn’t excuse her actions, but I just hope for a little understanding."

Sienna’s eyes widened. "Her mother told her to live like an orphan! Damn, that’s cold."

Jess straightened, her cane tapping against marble. "That is no reason for her greed. If she made those demands of your family, I would not care. If she made them of Sienna I would raise my eyebrows and make a few comments but I would still not care, because it is your family business. But these gifts were paid for by my husband and I. Numia has no right to demand for them. Morally or legally, she is wrong.

If she returns with humility, we will welcome her. We will even give these things to her as a donation. But, if she returns with demands, she will find closed doors and cold looks." She narrowed her eyes at Christo. "Teach your wife not to expect free things from the world. It doesn’t owe her anything. Bad things happen to everyone.

Just look at our Sienna. Isn’t she the biggest victim of Paris Rocland’s actions? Her and Soren, they never met him and now have to live under the shadow of his criminal past. Sienna was even blackmailed by the former falcon lord. If he had not died, everything she owns would be in his pocket by now.

But do you see her whining, crying and making demands of anyone just because her life was turned upside down by a father she never knew about?"

The room was silent for a while.

Sienna sighed. "I pity Numia," she said with a heavy heart. "Which is why I am going to give her the crib and the silk swaddles. They are just material things anyway." She laughed dryly, "Damn Paris Rocland! I hope he is burning in hell."

Elias frowned, his hand coming to rest lightly on her shoulder. "Sienna, compassion must have boundaries, otherwise it becomes weakness."

Grandma Byra nodded. "I forbid you from giving her anything. If she gets away with it once, it will become a habit. You have showed wisdom today, and that is enough. Do not let Numia’s cries haunt you."

Jesse added, "And strength is not measured in wealth. It is measured in dignity. That young woman needs to adjust her mindset."

Silence fell over the room again. Christo left, followed by grandpa Corven. Marius followed him, because the man looked as miserable as him.

Mrs. Miller said softly. "I will buy the crib." Before protests could come, she continued, "This family has experienced a lot of bad things this year. A baby is good news. I am not doing this for Numia, I am doing it for the child."

Sienna sighed loudly, "Then I will buy the baby clothes, gold rattle and other things." She raised her hand before she could be stopped. "I am not doing it because I owe her a debt by bad luck of being Paris’s daughter.

It’s because I have been in a bad place mentally, after having my own children. I denied it and tried to act happy but made everyone around me miserable." She gripped Elias’s hand. "I am worried about Numia’s mental health. Nobody can remain normal after being told to live like an orphan by their own mother. From now on, we should keep a close eye on her."

She was worried that Numia would fall into a depression or lose it and do something crazy, like setting everyone on fire in the night.
