Chapter 237: End of a good search and seizure.
There was a very brief struggle before Elias dropped his hand, accepting the harsh glare from his wife. "We are not kidnapping children for ransom." He still felt the need to clarify the reason for his actions. A worm was one thing, a child, another. One was funny, one was a crime!
Huffing, Sienna replied, "I was going to say that they should take the ribbons in her hair!"
Many eyes turned to look at the said ribbons.
The little girl gasped and covered her head with her hands. "You wouldn’t."
Sienna smirked. "Sweetheart, I’d take your favorite doll if grandma Jess ordered it."
Jess nodded. "Those are silver silk ribbon hairpins that I custom ordered and sent back for Ali. They cost 20,000 gold coins. I cannot believe I am seeing them on your niece!" She threw her hands in the air, jutting at Cadelaria with the cane. "Is there anything you did not take, Cadelaria?"
Cadelaria whimpered.
Jess gestured at Sienna. "Take them."
Sienna swooped in like a bat, plucking the silk ribbon hairpins, deaf to the screams of the girl. All she cared about was that the ribbons belonged to her daughter. Nobody had a right to take what belonged to her daughter.
"Grandma, she is just a child." Cyra said.
Sienna replied with a snap to her voice, "Then she should learn early not to covet what does not belong to her. It will save her from such humiliation in future."
By lunch hour, the villa was stripped bare. Car trunks groaned under the weight of treasures, guards marched with armfuls of finery, and Cadelaria’s family huddled in the empty hall, their faces pale with shock.
Sienna clapped her hands. "Well, that was invigorating. Nothing like a good storming to start the day. Wait...my day kind of started with me being held at gun point." Her eyes flicked to her mother-in-law. "Which is not your fault at all."
Jess smirked. "Now, let’s deal with the 250 million. Which one of you is going to pay it off? Mona, Hosea....anyone?"
The most unexpected thing happened, following that question. Suddenly, all of Cadelaria’s relatives changed to their fox forms and escaped in different directions. Some went out of the windows and others through the door.
They left so quickly that the guards did not know whether to laugh or chase after them.
"Mama, wait. You can’t leave." Cadelaria cried out.
Her mother did not respond, prompting the woman to break down into fresh tears.
"Wow! I did not see that coming at all!" Sienna exclaimed.
Jess snorted. "I did!" She turned her head to the left, looking at Cadelaria with contempt, "I hope this is a lesson well learned for you. They partook in the feast but they have no plans to help in clean up. This is the good family you come from, the good family that you are milking mine for. After we sell off their property, whatever balance of the debt that remains is going to be paid back by you. I hope you are ready to enter the job market again, because you are going to need a job. Do not count on Marius for help."
Cadelaria’s nervous legs lost all energy, and she collapsed.
A butler handed the seal to Jess, after careful examination. "It is genuine, there are no copies."
Jess nodded. "Let’s go."
The search and seizure ended. The vehicles departed, leaving whispers and shocked expressions. It was safe to assume that this was a scandal which the tribe would dine on for weeks.

On the journey back to the Veythar estate, Sienna was not as active as she had been. Sleep had overtaken her as soon as the ship lifted, and Elias was embracing the upper part of her body, with her head against his sturdy chest.
He was sitting stiffly, breathing slowly, as if he was afraid that the softest sound would wake her up. His grandmother was sitting opposite him, and Cyra was to his right. His mother was inside another cabin, under Liman’s watch.
"Spit it out," Jess said, an amused smile on her lips. "I can see the thoughts turning behind that charming look of frozen fire in your eyes."
"Was this necessary?" He asked his grandmother. "It defeats the purpose of what I have been trying to do all this while."
Jess spread her arms. "Necessary? No. Satisfying? Absolutely. Do you think your mother’s maternal family will ever dare to take anything from her again after this?"
Cyra rubbed her palms together, "Even I am scared to take anything from her now. I don’t want strangers going through my underwear drawers in search of stolen jewels."
Jess laughed. "And that is what I aimed to do. Don’t think that I did this to indulge Sienna or throw my authority around. I had to make a point. Your mother needs to learn that actions have consequences. We need to discuss what punishment I should give her because we all know expelling her is not an option. I will not have the fox tribe humiliated anymore than this."
Cyra sighed. "Wasn’t this punishment enough?"
Jess raised her brows. A silent code for the question ’what do you think?’ The answer was obviously negative.
Elias swallowed. He had faced many hurdles that he handled with ease, but nothing compared to the disappointments brought on by his mother. And yet, he could not bring himself to decide on what punishment befitted her actions.
Jess snorted. "If she was any other relative, you would both be throwing ideas out there. I am sure a prison sentence would be at the top of the list."
"But she is not any other relative." Cyra said softly, in a defeated voice. "She is our mother. We are okay with her being punished in some way, but not a humiliating one." She sighed. "If she is humiliated, as her children, we are humiliated."
Jess replied flatly, "Then you should have stopped her before I had to step in." Her eyes flicked to Sienna for a moment, "I can’t help thinking that if she had been put in charge of the household sooner, we would not be here. Did you see the way she grabbed that necklace? Or how ready she was to snatch those silk ribbons from an eight year old!
At least with her, I will never have to worry about the Veythar fortune being funneled into the hands of outsiders."
Sienna whimpered. The sound made the three cease the discussion temporarily. But they all knew, it was far from over.
