Chapter 235: One by one.

Never before, had Sienna enjoyed a flight on an airship so much. Her joy had everything to do with Cadelaria’s misery. While Sienna stuffed her mouth with snacks, her mother-in-law kept her head lowered, and arms folded. She was finished crying, but she didn’t dare let out a squeak.

Cyra had accepted what was to happen, and now, she was scrolling through her phone, occasionally shooting hateful glares at Sienna and rolling her eyes at her mother.

Elias decided to sit outside. It would save him from having to be caught between them.

Jess remained steady by Sienna’s side, smiling fondly at the granddaughter-in-law that her grandson had described as a hurricane on wheels. "You are enjoying tormenting your mother-in-law," She said.

Sienna smiled innocently. "I was pleading for her, wasn’t I? Every word was in her defense. I take no pleasure in watching her cry."

Jess shook her head. "Maybe smile a little less if you want to be believable. You defended her like a fox defends a henhouse."

Sienna winked. "Well, you foxes do love your hens. And I am now married into the fox tribe, it’s only fitting."

Jess’s laughter filled the air, easing over some of the tension. The ledgers on the table were temporarily closed, turned into plate holders by Sienna.

The ship docked somewhere near the edge of the city, and they moved to cars for the rest of the journey. Sienna had no idea who had made arrangements but the convoy was executive in appearance. All the vehicles bore the sigil of the Veythar family. The lead car had the flag, and the fox vanguard flanked the convoy on all sides.

They passed though a clean road, with tall buildings and shiny glass, selling all kinds of exclusive merchandise because this was a polished neighborhood for the nobles.

"Grandma," Sienna whispered, looking up from her phone, "I have found three jewelry shops in this area owned by Mona Twindell. As a matter of fact, one is right around the corner."

Jess raised her hand. "Say no more."

Their first stop was the closest ’Mona Twindell’s gems.’ Jess stormed inside, cane raised like a weapon. She frightened the salesgirls who backed away with wide eyes, the welcome greetings dead on their lips.

"You," She pointed to the jeweler behind a counter, "We have been perusing through your catalogue. You have a four seasons blue ruby set that doesn’t belong to you. Return it."

The man stammered, bowing low. "Grand Lady, I--I sold it to a collector this morning--"

Sienna stepped forward, smiling sweetly. "Then go and get it back. It should be back on the Veythar estate before 6p.m, today, or everyone that touched it is going to prison."

Jess’s eyes blazed. "How dare you sell my property? My husband gave me that jewelry! Guards! Seize the records and shop. Call for reinforcements, nothing leaves this shop from this moment."

The jeweler fainted.

Sienna leaned over the counter, shaking her head. "Oh dear. He is not built for fox drama."

From the first jewelry shop, they continued to the next and then the third. Every shop was shut down after each visit, actions which made a lot of businessmen and women in the area nervous.

Cadelaria was crying again, and this time, it was because Cyra was blaming her for what she had done. Stretching her hands to touch Jess’s private jewelry was unthinkable. She could not defend her mother anymore.

Elias decided their next destination, the stables of the noble Deming family. He had been trying to buy back two horses that belonged to him. When Jess stormed the stables, the horses whinnied nervously as she demanded their release.

Mr. Kirk Deming wrung his hands. "I...I....sold them to the Lion lord."

Sienna gasped theatrically. "The lions? This is now an inter-tribal issue. What were they thinking by buying stolen horses?"

"Stolen!!" Kirk Deming bellowed, turning to Elias. He denied frantically, "I didn’t. I swear on the fox god that I didn’t steal any horses. Mark lost a bet to me, and he couldn’t pay. He knew I was looking around for some prized steeds and he said he knew where to find some. Two days later, the horses arrived."

"Did he give you any paperwork?" Sienna asked.

Deming shook his head.

"Fool," Jess muttered. "You never accept fine horses without the right paperwork. Now, get in touch with the Lion lord and tell him to return what belongs to my grandson or prepare for war."

Deming’s eyes widened in a comical way.

Elias pinched the bridge of his nose. "Grandma, please. Is a declaration of war over two horses necessary?"

Jess’s cane struck the ground. "It’s the principal that matters. The lions will learn that foxes reclaim what is theirs. We can’t have them thinking that they can take what belongs to you as they wish. A strong statement must be made."

Sienna leaned toward Elias. "You know, if we let your grandma run the kingdom, we would have conquered the entire world by now. She’s terrifying."

Elias sighed. Sienna did not know his grandmother well enough, or she knew the more mellowed version of the older woman as she was now. If his grandmother run the kingdom, all the subjects would have to kneel when she walked by. She would be a tyrant.

Cyra whined. "Brother, word is already spreading on BeastNet. Do something!"

"Like what?" He asked sharply. "Give me a suggestion Cyra." He pointed to the car where their mother was in hiding. "Mother touched grandma’s private jewelry. I can’t stop anything anymore."

Sienna whistled. "Just wait when we get back home, it will be ten times worse for your mama. Jesse is going to pluck her fur, one hair at a time until she is a hairless fox."

Elias covered her mouth. "Enough talking."

The journey continued, each stop more dramatic than the last. Merchants cowered, guards seized goods, and Sienna provided running commentary like a gleeful announcer.

Finally, they arrived at the Twindell family’s compound. It stretched across rolling hills like a fortress from another age. At it heart loomed at main manor, an ancient stone castle, its towers clawing at the sky, its walls weathered but unyielding. Winter ivy clung stubbornly to the walls, and fox statues leered from the corners, as if mocking anyone foolish enough to break in.

For a moment, everyone just admired the scene. Until Sienna bellowed a command, using her phone to enhance her voice, "Smash the gates in."
