The moment Maeve received the reward for completing the mission, she immediately took the crystal out of the system’s inventory.

While Ikarus was carrying Lior, Maeve walked over to Axan and placed the Barrier Reinforcement Crystal in his hand.

"What’s this?" Axan asked, frowning slightly. "It feels... quite something."

He raised the crystal to eye level and studied the energy flowing inside it.

Maeve smiled. "I know most of the barrier was destroyed, so you’ll have to rebuild it from scratch. But this crystal can reduce the amount of Aether Energy you need by..."

[Fifty percent, Host!]

"Half of the usual need!" Maeve added. "This is a good thing, right? I mean... it can reduce the Aether Energy consumption until..." She turned her face to the side, her cheeks slightly red, then whispered, "...we have more babies."

Realizing how that sounded, she quickly waved her hands. "I-I mean if the other women have babies too!"

To her surprise, Axan let out a soft chuckle. "Yes, this will be a great help." He looked at her with a gentle smile. "Thank you for giving this to me, Maeve. I’ll repair the barrier now before any wild beasts come here. Is that alright?"

Maeve nodded so quickly that her hair bounced. "Yes! Yes! That’s fine!" She pointed toward Ikarus and Cerus. "I can stay with them."

Axan didn’t say anything else. He gently patted her head a few times before turning around and leaving to repair the barrier.

Since the barrier had been badly damaged, Maeve knew it would probably take him several days to finish repairing it. That also meant she might not get to see him very often.

[Well, Host, you can always go visit him!] Pinky said cheerfully. [You could even bring him lunch!]

At first, Maeve thought that sounded like a great idea. But then she remembered that no one in the tribe ever let her cook for them.

They always said they didn’t want her to accidentally burn herself.

That was ridiculous! She had never burned herself while cooking before!

[That’s only because you barely cook, Host. And most of the things you make are instant noodles or fried eggs.]

[Only someone with truly terrible cooking skills could burn themselves while making those.]

Maeve clicked her tongue, feeling annoyed that Pinky had underestimated her.

’Just wait and see! I’ll definitely make something delicious later!’

But for now, she needed to check on Ikarus and Cerus first. After the battle with the Pyrax Tribe, both of them were once again covered in wounds from head to toe. Their injuries looked even worse than before.

It wasn’t surprising, though. After all, they had fought on the front line, unlike Axan, and they couldn’t create barriers to protect themselves like he could.

Even so, they still made Lior their first priority.

Ikarus was still carrying the little boy in his arms, even though both of his forearms were covered in cuts. Cerus stayed close beside them, keeping a careful eye on Lior to make sure he wasn’t frightened by everything that had happened.

"How about you let me carry him for now?" Maeve asked, reaching out to take Lior from Ikarus.

But Ikarus simply lifted the little boy a little higher, just enough to keep Maeve from reaching him.

"You’ve been carrying him for a long time," he said gently. "I don’t want your arms to get sore."

Well, her arms were already sore after holding Lior for so long. But that didn’t mean she wanted Ikarus or Cerus to carry him while they were both badly injured.

"Leader, how about I look after him instead?" Zini suddenly offered. She set her axe on the ground before walking closer so she wouldn’t scare the little boy.

"I barely have any wounds, so I can take care of him for a while," she added.

Maeve looked Zini up and down. Unlike Ikarus and Cerus, Zini had only a few small cuts on her body. Most of the blood on her clothes clearly belonged to the Pyrax warriors she had defeated.

But hadn’t she just fought against so many Pyrax people as well?

After thinking about it for a moment, Maeve realized Pinky was right.

Ikarus and Cerus really did fight as if they had nine lives.

Maybe they had grown used to fighting that way. But now they had a wife and a child waiting for them at home. Shouldn’t making it back alive be more important than risking their lives on the battlefield?

Pushing those thoughts aside, Maeve turned back to Zini. "Are you sure you don’t want to rest?"

Zini smiled warmly and shook her head. "Oh, Goddess, you don’t have to worry about me. I barely fought like a real warrior, so I’m fine."

She smiled even wider before adding, "It’s alright. You can just focus on taking care of the Leaders."

The moment Zini took Lior from Ikarus’s arms, Maeve immediately pushed both of her mates toward a nearby hut that was still standing.

"Wait here. I’ll go get some water to clean your wounds," Maeve said.

Cerus was about to stand up, but Maeve immediately pushed him back down.

"I said wait," she repeated with a frown.

Cerus quickly replied, "But carrying water is tiring!"

Maeve raised one of her eyebrows. "I can still do it! Don’t worry!"

Besides, they had a small bucket that Maeve could carry without much trouble.

"Just stay here!" she said out loud before immediately dashing toward the rainwater storage.
